Which Is More Important, Education or a Cheaper Holiday?
• New research has shown that almost four out of ten parents in the UK have taken their children out of school to go on holidays. Cost is the main reason given by parents for sacrificing their children’s education. Parents are to be banned, however, by UK’s Education Authority, from taking their children out of school to go during term time.
Should local authorities stagger school holidays to enable families with children to take advantage of travel bargains? Or is it wrong for parents to jeopardize their children’s education for the sake of a cheaper holiday? As far as I am concerned, education is more important. Firstly, children’s education must come first. A cheap holiday during the school season shouldn’t be the reason to take a child out of school. Some parents are not willing to sacrifice or schedule their lives in terms of their children’s needs. This kind of attitude will influence their children deeply. It’s no wonder so many kids are not interested in school and don’t take their study seriously. Secondly, school isn’t day care center. It’s an educational institution that needs every student to follow its rules. Taking a child on holiday when school is in session will disturb the order of the school. Besides, it is disruptive for the child, because he will have to catch up whenin all, taking children out of school for a cheaper holiday is irresponsible behavior. • Those parents would risk being fined financially and morally. • It’s not only kids that need to grow up— —a lot of parents need to as well.

I'm going to explain the answer to the 2016 CET-4 writing question in detail. First of all, the topic of the essay was about the impact of social media on interpersonal communication. In my opinion, social media has both positive and negative effects on how we communicate with others. On the one hand, platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have made it easier for us to stay connected with friends and family, no matter where they are in the world. We can share photos, videos, and updates about our lives instantly, which helps us feel closer to each other. For example, I have a friend who lives in another country, and thanks to social media, we can chat and see what each other is up to on a daily basis. On the other hand, social media can also have negativeimpacts on our communication skills. Some people become so absorbed in their online lives that they neglect face-to-face interactions. This can lead to misunderstandings and a lack of empathy towards others. For instance, I've noticed that some of my friends spend more time scrolling through their news feeds than actually talking to me when we meet up in person.Overall, I believe that social media can be a valuable tool for communication, but it's important to strike a balance between our online and offline interactions. We should remember that nothing can replace the warmth and connection that comes from talking to someone in person.

Undoubtedly, learning is a daily experience and lifetime mission. For instance, Madam Curie, who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity and became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, was known for her persistence in learning.Several reasons, both social and individual, could account for the importance of constant learning. Firstly, in an age of ruthless and relentless competition, only by learning constantly can we bring our potential and ability into full play and catch up with the times. Secondly, learning does not only help us acquire knowledge, but also enriches our lives and broadens our horizons. Thirdly, science and technology change with each passing day. Without constant learning, it would be impossible for us to update our knowledge.Accordingly, it is constant learning that really matters in achieving success in modern society. In my humble opinion, it is high time that parents and teachers made joint efforts to encourage children to read more books instead of playing computer games all day.Listening is more important than talkingIt is no exaggeration to say that listening is more important than talking. For instance, without listening, a baby won’t know how to speak; without enough listening, we cannot speak English fluently; without listening carefully in classroom, we cannot follow our teachers. There are several reasons to account for the importance of listening. First and foremost, only by listening to others carefully can we understand their points of views. Secondly, more listening can not only broaden our horizons, but also helps us absorb others’ wisdom. Last but not least, listening is an input and talking is an output. It is unwise to voice our opinions in thosetopics that we are unfamiliar with.As an old Chinese old saying goes, silence is gold. Therefore, in my humble opinion, it is of great significance for us to spend more time in listening instead of rushing to speak.Never go out there to see what happens, go out there to make something happenThere is no doubt that we should never go out there to see what happens; instead, we should take actions to make things happen. A telling example is Youyou Tu. She and her colleagues made 380 extracts from 2,00 herbs before they finally succeeded in discovering the pure substance qinghaosu, which can be used to treat malaria. As we all know, there were numerous scientists who wanted to find this substance, but it was her firm actions that made her the first Chinese Nobel laureate in medicine. Why?Reasons are quite simple and can be listed as follows. To begin with, only by taking actions can we find the best way to solve those problems we are facing, but as a bystander, we can learn nothing meaningful. In addition, in an age full of ruthless and relentless competitions, without taking actions to make things happen, we are bound to lose those valuable opportunities. For instance, if Apple had just gone out there to see what happens in mobile phones, it could not have presented the amazing product, iPhone, to us.Accordingly, we college students should not just be a watcher but a doer. In my humble opinion, we can start from applying what we have learned into practice.。

范文1When it comes to whether parents should take their children to spend holidays during term-time, views on the issue vary from person to person.(引入话题) Parents claim that by doing so, they can save a lot of money born of busy school holidays. Educational officials strongly oppose this tendency on the ground that it encourages truancy, which in turn damages a child’s education.(两种观点)As a result, UK’s education authorities are now banning parents from taking their children for holidays during term-time to save money.(概括材料)From my perspective, the merits of banning term-time holidays outweigh its demerits.(陈述观点)To begin with, taking tough measures on this kind of truancy is conducive to the normal teaching process, one of the key elements to guarantee kid’s academic performance.(理由一)As we know, currently, teachers have the discretion to approve a certain time of absence from school for each child. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.1. CrowdfundingIn recent years, crowdfunding has become increasingly popular in China. Crowdfunding is a method of raising capital through the collective effort of friends, family, customers, and individual investors. It has provided a new way for entrepreneurs, artists, and small businesses to raise funds for their projects or ideas. There are several advantages to crowdfunding. Firstly, it allows entrepreneurs to access funding from a large number of individuals, reducing their dependence on traditional sources of finance such as banks or venture capitalists. This democratization of funding can help to level the playing field for small businesses and startups. Secondly, crowdfunding can also be a valuable marketing tool, as it allows entrepreneurs to engage directly withtheir backers and build a community around their project. This can help to create buzz and generate interest in the project. However, there are also drawbacks to crowdfunding. One of the main concerns is the risk of fraud, as there is often limited oversight of crowdfunding campaigns. In addition, some projects may fail to deliver on their promises, leaving backers with nothing to show for their investment. Furthermore, the sheer number of crowdfunding campaigns can make it difficult for individual projects to stand out and attract attention. In my opinion, crowdfunding is a valuable tool for entrepreneurs and small businesses, but it is important for backers to exercise caution and due diligence when participating in crowdfunding campaigns. By doing research and carefully evaluating projects before investing, backers can help to mitigate the risks associated with crowdfunding. Ultimately, crowdfunding has the potential to revolutionize the way that we fund projects and ideas, but it is important to approach it with a critical eye.。

I. English Response:In the 2016 CET-4 writing section, the topic was about the importance of developing a habit of reading in children. This topic is quite interesting and relevant to our daily life. As a parent, I believe that cultivating a readinghabit in children is crucial for their overall development.First and foremost, reading helps children to expand their knowledge and vocabulary. When children read books, they are exposed to new words and ideas that they may not encounter in their daily lives. This can help them improve their language skills and become better communicators. For example, when my son started reading regularly, I noticed a significant improvement in his vocabulary and writingskills.Furthermore, reading can stimulate children's imagination and creativity. By delving into differentworlds and scenarios through books, children can develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. For instance, my daughter loves reading fantasy novels, and I have seen how it has sparked her imagination and inspired her towrite her own stories.Additionally, reading can foster a love for learning in children. When children develop a habit of reading, theyare more likely to seek out knowledge and information on their own. This can lead to a lifelong love for learningand a desire to explore new subjects. I have seen this firsthand with my niece, who used to dislike studying but now enjoys reading non-fiction books on various topics. In conclusion, developing a habit of reading inchildren is not only beneficial for their academic success but also for their personal growth and development. As parents, we should encourage and support our children in cultivating this important habit.II.

2016年专四英语作文题目为《Analysis of Causes of Stress and Solutions to Relieve Stress》(压力的成因及缓解压力的方法分析),范文如下:范文:In today's fast-paced society, stress has become an inevitable part of our lives. There are various factors contributing to stress, and it's crucial to identify these causes in order to effectively alleviate stress and lead a healthier life.First and foremost, one of the major causes of stressis the pressure from work or study. With the increasing competition in the job market and the demanding academic requirements, individuals often find themselves overwhelmed by the workload and expectations, leading to high levels ofstress. Moreover, the fear of failure and the constant need to meet deadlines only exacerbate the situation, leaving individuals feeling anxious and stressed.Another significant factor that contributes to stressis the imbalance between work and personal life. Many people struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance, often sacrificing their personal time and relationships for the sake of their careers or academic pursuits. This imbalance not only affects one's mental well-being but also strains relationships with family and friends, further adding to the stress.Furthermore, the pressure to succeed and meet societal expectations also plays a significant role in causing stress. In today's society, there is a pervasive culture of achievement and perfectionism, where individuals are constantly striving for success and recognition. This relentless pursuit of perfection can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, ultimately contributing to stress and anxiety.Fortunately, there are various strategies and solutions that can help alleviate stress and promote mental well-being. Firstly, it's essential to prioritize self-care and make time for relaxation and leisure activities. Engagingin hobbies, exercise, or mindfulness practices can help reduce stress levels and promote a sense of calm and balance. Moreover, learning to set realistic goals and expectations is crucial in managing stress effectively. Instead of striving for perfection, it's important to focus on progress and celebrate small achievements along the way. By adopting a more realistic and flexible mindset, individuals can reduce the pressure they put on themselves and cultivate a healthier attitude towards success.Additionally, seeking support from friends, family, or professional counselors can also be beneficial in coping with stress. Talking about your feelings and concerns with others can provide emotional support and perspective, helping you navigate through difficult times more effectively. In conclusion, stress is a common phenomenon in today's society, but it's essential to understand its causes and implement effective strategies to manage it. By addressing the root causes of stress and adopting healthy coping mechanisms, individuals can lead happier, more balanced lives. This is a high-quality essay that effectively analyzes the causes of stress and provides practical solutions for relieving stress. 范文:Firstly, technology has greatly improved our efficiency in communication. With the help of smartphones and social media platforms, we can easily keep in touch with our friends and family, no matter where they are. This has made our lives more convenient and connected. Secondly, technology has also revolutionized the way we work. Many tasks that used to require manual labor can now be done by machines, which has increased productivity and reduced the risk of workplace accidents. However, it is worth noting that technology has also brought about some negative effects. For example, theoveruse of electronic devices has led to a decline in face-to-face communication and physical activities, which has had a negative impact on our social skills and health.

1When it comes to whether parents should take their children to spend holidays during term-time, views on the issue vary from person to person.(引入话题) Parents claim that by doing so, they can save a lot of money born of busy school holidays. By definitely abolishing the right of head teachers to “authorize absence” from the classroom, those teachers can rarely be pestered by parents who want to take children to go on a holiday just to save money, which severely disrupts teaching process.(具体论证一)What ’s more, without strict penalties imposed on the parents who lead to their kid’s playing truant, those parents can gradually view asking for holiday leave as a right.(理由二)Once this cultural expectation is formed, the level of truancy will dramatically increase.(假设论证二)Accordingly, the growing trend of term-time holidays should be banned with no delay.(重申论点)In this way, teachers can impart knowledge without disturbance and parents will be deterred from saving money at the expense of sacrificing their kid’s education.范文2New research has shown that almost four out of ten parents in the UK have taken their children out of school to go on holidays.(描述背景)Cost is the main reason given by parents for sacrificing their children’s education. Parents are to be banned, however, by UK’s Education Authority, from taking their children out of school to go during term time.(总结材料。

围绕两点:cost, ban)Should local authorities stagger school holidays to enable families with children to take advantage of travel bargains? Or is it wrong for parents to jeopardize their children’s education for the sake of a cheaper holiday? As far as I am concerned, education is more important. (提出观点)Firs tly, children’s education must come first. A cheap holiday during the school season shouldn’t be the reason to take a child out of school. Some parents are not willing to sacrifice or schedule their lives in terms of their children’s needs. This kind of attitude will influence their children deeply. It’s no wonder so many kids are not interested in school and don’t take their study seriously.(论据一)Secondly, school isn’t day care center. It’s an educational institution that needs every student to follow its rules. Taking a child on holiday when school is in session will disturb the order of the school. (论据二)Besides, it is disruptive for the child, because he will have to catch up when he returns.(论据三)All in all, taking children out of school for a cheaper holiday is irresponsible behavior.(总结前文)Those parents would risk being fined financially and morally. It’s not only kids that need to grow up——a lot of parents need to as well.

You should comment on whether parents should take children out of school for holidays during term time in order to save money。

I am inclined to ban the term time holidays. It can save money. Children are based on the belief that to prove study skills. Schools are a good place for children to practice…(非连贯句)I am inclined to ban the term time holidays because it can save money. For one thing, children can improve their study skills at school which is a good place for children to practice their abilities…(连贯句)(三)语言功底问题:句式单一,语法错误,词汇误用,用词缺乏变化。
