翻译第三讲：反译法

正话反说

动词：

∙Asia was passed over by the industrial revolution.

∙Live up to the expectations of our own people and the people throughout the world.

∙As was expected, the enemy walked right into the trap.

∙两支篮球队不分胜负。

∙请暂时不要发这份文件。

∙我的性格是既乐观又大胆，不知道什么叫愁。

∙这些文物是帝国主义劫掠中国时得来的不义之财.

可以运用反译法的动词有：refuse（不愿；不肯；无法），

prevent…from…/exclude …from…(不准，不行) ，remain（不变）lack（缺乏；没有），defy（不服从；不遵守；不让），forbid（不许），stop（不准）和ignore （不理；不肯考虑）等。

名词：

∙I adhered to all the courtesies I had been taught. This frustrated my son to no end.

∙While he liked her work, he pointed out areas where improvement was possible.

∙In the absence of a settlement through negotiation, the case under dispute can be submitted to arbitration.

∙会场内鸦雀无声。

∙我们不能再让盗版DVD泛滥下去。

∙那名被捕的罪犯，闭口不提其作案动机，这让破案工作陷于停顿。

∙这家工厂花了十年时间，从一间无人知晓的小工厂一跃成为行业老大.

可以运用反译法的名词有：defiance（不顾；无视），denial（否认；否定），exclusion（排除），freedom（不；免除），refusal（不愿；不允许）和loss（失去）等。

形容词：

∙An opportunity is not likely to repeat itself.

∙This gear is quiet and vibration free.

∙Her husband hates to see her stony face.

∙Her rebellious grandfather was deported to Siberia.

∙我们的人民解放军无愧于伟大的人民军队的称号。

∙伦敦发展成为“世界顶级金融中心”的过程并非“一马平川”。

∙找到海外职位，优秀的成绩单和出色的语言能力十分关键，但这远远不够。

可以运用反译法的形容词及短语：absent（不在；不到），awkward（不熟练；不灵活；使用起来不方便），bad（令人不愉快的；不受欢迎的；不舒服的），blind （看不到；不注意），dead（无生命的；无感觉的；不毛的），difficult（不容易的），foreign to（不适合的；与……无关），short of（不够），和poor（不好的；不幸的）等。

副词：

∙His answer is beside the point.

∙I want to help him but it is beyond my ability.

∙Far from being honored, she narrowly avoided a death sentence from the authorities.

∙我们应该帮助他而不是拒绝他。

∙不管出现什么情况，家庭是可以依赖的地方。

可以运用反译法的副词：behind(不如), above（不尽，不可能）， rather than／other than（而不是）

反说正译

动词：

∙Such theft couldn’t long escape notice.

∙She never went further than the facts allowed.

∙The examination left no doubt that the patient had died of stroke.

∙The United Nations has not, so far, justified the hopes which the people of the world put on it.

∙After the earthquake, lots of people were displaced.

形容词：

∙The maintenance men walked into the insecure building.

∙It was inconsiderate of him to mention the matter in her hearing.

∙He gave me an indefinite answer.

∙As a collection of essays the range is impressive, but taken one by one they are unremarkable.

∙People live in the fear of being persecuted in the illiberal Russia.

名词：

∙The dishonesty of the city officials was exposed by the newspaper.

∙The machine has two serious disadvantages

∙Her unwillingness was shown by her silent manners

∙His disqualification from participating in the Olympic Games was caused by his drug use.

∙The indecision is the biggest obstacle people will meet when they start their own business.

副词：

∙Mr. Bush has been usually dependent on grassroots to solve this problem this time.

∙He has also been unusually sympathetic to Israel, even by American standard.

∙Three Chinese labourers appear as if from nowhere.

∙Continued failure would eventually make America a less prosperous and more unstable place.

∙He irrationally kept chanting her name.
