We woke up super early on Saturday morning to make the drive out to the countryside.When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was how fresh the air smelled. It was such a nice change from the city air I'm used to breathing. The farm was huge, with wide open fields, barns, stables, and lots of animals all around. Our tour guide Jenny introduced herself and gave us an overview of what we'd be doing that day.First up was a wagon ride around the property. We all piled into this big tractor-pulled wagon and rode through the fields. Jenny pointed out all the different crops they grow - corn, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes and more. She explained what times of year each one is planted and harvested. I had no idea farmers had to plan so far in advance!After the wagon ride, it was time to meet some of the farm animals. We went to the barnyard and got to pet and feed the goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and cows. The goats were probablymy favorite - they were so funny and cute, and loved getting scratched under the chin. Some of them even tried to eat my shirt! The pigs were pretty hilarious too, making all kinds of snorting noises while they ate. I felt bad for the chickens though, since they didn't have any feathers and looked a little funny.Next up was the horse stables. We met the stable hands who take care of the horses every day - brushing them, feeding them, cleaning their stalls, and more. I got to brush one of the horses named Buddy. His hair was so soft and shiny! After that, some of the braver kids even got to go for a short horseback ride around the training pen. Not me though - those horses were huge and I was a little too nervous to get up on one.For lunch, we had a picnic outside on the lawn. Jenny's family who runs the farm provided a delicious spread of hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, potato salad, and more. Everything tasted super fresh since a lot of the ingredients were grown right there. We played frisbee and ran around in the fields while we ate. With all that wide open space, it felt like we could just run forever without getting tired. What a nice change from my usual city life!After lunch, we headed over to the pumpkin patch. Even though it was springtime, there were some leftover pumpkinsfrom last fall's harvest. We got to go into the big pumpkin field and pick one out to take home. I found a medium-sized one that wasn't too heavy to carry. I can't wait to carve a jack-o-lantern with it for next Halloween!Before heading home, we made one last stop at the farm store. It was full of fresh produce, preserves, baked goods, and other products all made right on the farm. My mom stocked up on fresh veggies, homemade jam, and some delicious-looking pies. I also bought a little stuffed cow toy to remind me of my fun farm adventure.We had such an awesome day experiencing life on a real working farm. I gained a whole new appreciation for all the hard work farmers do to grow the food we eat. I'll never look at a cornfield or chicken the same way again! I also feel lucky to live so close to the countryside and nature. Cities are nice, but there's something really special about running free in the open fields with the fresh air and dirt between your toes. If you ever get the chance to visit a farm, I highly recommend it!。
