Had an impressive political career. Became Lord Chancellor in the end
One of the finest prose writers, clear, clean & crisp prose, particularly in essays: sharp, terse, direct brevity, no great digression, no long sentences, extremely lucid, yet not dull at all, also very imaginative by using poetic imagery, & also because he was a man of his time: change towards good, clear language in terse form from Ciceronian prose.
