He came to Georgetown University on a scholarship to study medicine. But Coach Thompson got a look at him and had a different idea. Kikembe became a star in the NBA and a citizen of the United States. But he never forgot the land of his birth, or the duty to share his fortune with others. He built a new hospital in his old hometown in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A friend has said of this good-hearted man “He believes that God has given him this chance to do great things.”A few weeks ago, Wesley Autrey was waiting at the Harlem subway station with his two little girls when he saw a man fall into the path of the train. With seconds to act, he jumped onto the tracks, pulled the man into the space between the rails(铁轨) and held him as the train passed right above their heads. He insists he is not a hero. Unit 2 Lesson 1 Modern Heroes一.教材分析本课是第2单元第1课的第1课时,是一节阅读课。

本单元的中心话题是“英雄”,学生会学习到关于英雄的很多种话题,诸如宇航员,历史缔造者,体育明星和电影明星。

本课主要介绍了现代民族英语-----第一位飞天宇航员杨利伟和“神舟5号”任务执行的过程。

课文较简短,理解难度也不大,通过介绍飞天过程复习一般过去时和过去进行时两种时态,并让学生体会宇航员的太空探险和献身精神。

本课在本单元中起着过渡作用,为后面学习更多的英雄人物,更好地理解和体会“英雄”这一概念做铺垫。

二.学情分析1.高一的学生正处于初高中转型阶段,初、高中知识有待衔接,学习方法也很不一样,故心理波动较大,学习较被动,但可塑性较强,学习热情很高。

2.学生对初中阶段的语言知识掌握得较牢固,有一定的听、说、读、写的能力,但自主学习和综合语言运用能力较弱。

3.学生通过前一单元的学习,初步了解了一些听、说、读、写等方面的学习策略,如预测、背景知识、小组活动等。

有了一定的获取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力。

Heroes all around us
When we were kids, if someone asked us who our hero was, many of us would reply with Batman, Superman, Power Rangers, or Ninja Turtles. As we were growing up, our idea of what a hero is changes. When we are in our teens, sports stars, movie stars become our obcession使人沉迷的人).As we reach adulthood, those around us become our heroes: firefighters, police officers and soldiers, who sacrifice牺牲)their lives and safety to save or protect other people. A hero is an individual who has impacted your life in a positive way that you look up to that person with the utmost respect.
Heroes can teach people life lessons. For me, modern heroes are the likes of Kikembe Mutombo and Wesley Autrey. Here are their heroic deeds that are worth remembering.
Kikembe Mutombo grew up in Africa among great poverty(贫穷) and disease. He came to Georgetown University on a scholarship to study medicine. But Coach Thompson got a look at him and had a different idea. Kikembe became a star in the NBA and a citizen of the United States. But he never forgot the land of his birth, or the duty to share his fortune with others. He built a new hospital in his old hometown in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A friend has said of this good-hearted man“He believes that God has given him this chance to do great thing”s.
A few weeks ago, Wesley Autrey was waiting at the Harlem subway station with his two little girls when he saw a man fall into the path of the train. With seconds to act, he jumped on to the tracks, pulled the man into the space betwee n the rails铁轨) and held him as the train passed right above their heads. He insists he is not a hero. He says“We have got to show each other some love”.
You can be a hero in your own way by helping others and doing good deeds and not because you want to be remembered or rewarded酬谢),but because i'the right thing to do.
