I felt a little bit lonely, wondering if I would make any new friends here. But then, I remembered my mom’s words: “Be brave and open-minded. Everyone is n ew here, too.”When I entered the classroom, my teacher greeted me warmly. She introducedme to the class and helped me find a seat. I sat down, feeling a little shy but also relieved that I wasn’t alone. The first lesson was English, and the teacher spoke English almost all the time. It was challenging, but I tried my best to understand and participate.During lunchtime, I decided to join a group of students who were sitting alone. We introduced ourselves and soon found out that we had a lot in common. We talked about our hobbies, favorite subjects, and even shared some jokes.I felt happy to have made some new friends so quickly. After school, I walked home with a smile on my face. It wasa (1)_____day, with blue skies and warm sunshine. As soon as I arrived, I(2)_____my grandparents a big hug. They were very happy to see me.We spent the whole day together, doing all sorts of things. In the morning, we helped my grandfather (3)_____his garden. He had lots of vegetables and flowers there. It was amazing to see how (4)_____everything was growing. In the afternoon, we went for a walk in the nearby woods. The air was so fresh and clean. We saw many birds and butterflies (5)_____around. Options:1.(A)rainy (B) cloudy (C) sunny (D) windy(B)(A)gave (B) bought (C) borrowed (D) lent(C)(A)to water (B) watering (C) water (D) waters(D)(A)fast (B) slowly (C) well (D) badly(E)(A)flying (B) running (C) sleeping (D) swimmingAnswers:1.(C)sunny(D)(A)gave(F)(C)water(E)(C)well(F)(A)flyingExplanations:1.sunny: The passage mentions “blue skies and warm sunshine,” whichindicates a sunny day. Therefore, (C) sunny is the correct choice. 2.gave: The sentence “I (2)_____my grandparents a big hug” requires a verbthat expresses the action of giving something. “Gave” is the past tense of “give,” fitting the context perfect ly. Thus, (A) gave is the correct answer.3.water: In the sentence “we helped my grandfather (3)_____his garden,”the infinitive form of “to water” is required after “helped.” However, when “help” is followed by a pronoun (in this case, “my grandfather”) and an infinitive, the infinitive often omits “to.” Hence, (C) water is the correct form.4.well: The phrase “how … growing” suggests a question about the qualityor manner of growth. “Well” is an adverb that describes something happening in a satisfactory or successful manner, fitting the context of seeing the plants growing healthily. Thus, (C) well is the correct choice.5.flying: The sentence “We saw many birds and butterflies (5)_____around”requires a verb that describes the movement of birds and butterflies in the air. “Flying” is the present participle form of “fly,” indicating an ongoing action, and fits the context best. We skim over articles, e-mails and WeChat to try to get key words and the meaning of the text. With so much information through our electronic device (设备), it would be impossible to get through everything if we read word by word, line by line. But a new trend calls on people to enjoy reading slowly.A recent story from The Wall Street Journal reported on a book club in Wellington, New Zealand, where members meet in a cafe and turn off their smartphones. They sit in comfortable chairs and read in silence for an hour. Unlike traditional book clubs, the point of the slow reading club isn’t to share ideas about a certain book, but to get away fro m electronic devices and read in a quiet, relaxed environment.Slow readers, such as TheAtlantic’sMaura Kelly, say a regular reading habit sharpens the mind, improves attention, lowers stress levels and deepens the ability to understand others. Some of these benefits have been backed up by science. For example, a study of 300 elderly people published by the journal Neurology last year showed that adults who take part in activities that use their brain, such as reading, suffer (遭受) less memory loss as they get older.Yet technology has made us less careful readers. Computer and phone screens have changed our reading patterns from the top-to-bottom, left-to-right reading order we traditionally used, to a wild skimming and skipping pattern as we search for important words and information. Reading text online that has many links to other web pages also leads to weaker understanding than reading plain text (纯文本). The Internet may have made us stupider, says British journalist Patrick Kingsley from the Guardian, only half joking. Because of the Internet, he says, we have become very good at collecting a large number of interesting news, but we are also gradually forgetting how to sit back, think and relate all these facts to each other.Slowing reading means a return to an uninterrupted, straight pattern, in a quiet environment. Aim for 30 minutes a day, advises Kelly from The Atlantic. “You can squeeze in (挤出) that half hour pretty easily if only during your free moments — whenever you want to check your favorite site for something to pass the time— you pick up a meaningful work of literature,” Kelly said.1.The words “backed up” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “______”.A.given back B.called back C.supported D.disagreed2.Kingsley believes that the Internet has weaken people’s ability to ______.A.get key words rapidly B.share ideas about booksC.collect interesting news D.think deeply about information3.According to the passage, slow reading___________.A.improves understanding among peopleB.treats the memory loss of elderly peopleC.provides people with a quiet environmentD.slows down the development of electronic device4.What’s the best title for the passage?A.Benefit of Reading Clubs B.Return of Slow ReadingC.Reading of the Internet Age D.Influence of Speed ReadingⅤ.书面表达19、A.亲爱的同学:暑假就要到了,请用五个句子说说你在假期在学习或者生活中的计划安排。

Many Chinese women think South Korean actors KimSoo-hyun(金秀贤) and Lee Min-ho(李敏镐) are their demigods(男神). Chinese people have different ideas about South Korean TV dramas, but there is no doubt that many people in China are interested in Korean TV dramas. And a big part of the credit(功劳) for that goes to You Who Came From The Star《来自星星的你》, the South Korean TV series which is on the air now.In You Who Came From The Star ,the top South Korean actors Jun Ji-hyun(全智贤) and Kim Soo-hyun recently earned a popularity rating(收视率) of 24.8 percent in their country. You Who Came From The Star and The Heirs(继承者们) have been subjects of hot online discussions throughout Asia. The two TV programs have several common elements(元素): a tall, handsome, and rich hero who loves a woman and always protects her, and an equally handsome man madly in love with the same woman. Both programs represent the purity of love. Perhaps that’s the secret of their success; perhaps people still love Cinderella-type(灰姑娘型的) stories. However, Chinese TV screens are full of poorly made soap operas(肥皂剧). Most of the Chinese TV dramas either describe the War against Japanese or blindly copy foreign programs. There are too many TV series on time travel or fights in the palace of Qing Dynasty (清朝1644-1911). These, in short, do harm to Chinese TV productions. It ended up on December 5. But it told the drivers the meaning of the new traffic laws and the dangers of drinking. In Beijing, some restaurants put up notices and told drivers about their responsibility. “Usually if a group of guests come by car, the driver won’t drink. If he does, we will remind him,” said a waitress from Dongfang Restaurant in Beijing. Fewer drivers are drinking alcohol nowadays, since many know about the campaign.Wang Lankun, a traffic policeman in Beijing said, “Some drivers think a glass of beer is not a problem. But a blood test will show that their blood-alcohol level is more than 20mg for each 100ml of blood, that is enough to affect their driving.”During the campaign, drivers who have a blood-alcohol level of over 20mg for each 100ml of blood will get a fine of 500 yuan. Also, they will not be allowed to drive for three months. In fact, there are strict laws to punish drunk driving in many other countries. For example, in the USA, if someone has a blood-alcohol level of over 80mg for each 100ml of blood, he will be sent to prison for one year. But in Britain, he will be fined 5,000 pounds and banned (禁止)from driving for 12 months, also he will be sent to prison for 6 months. Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyle and even fight. Basically (基本上) , they are often taking risks.Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely to makeirrationaldecisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong? Not real ly. So what’s the reason?According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view them—that is “peer influence”.As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and also they care more about what they think of them. This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely. Why do peers have such a big influence on teens’ behavior? As Laurence se es it, a teenager’s brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent (暴力的) teenager doesn’t necessarily become a violent adult. About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth gro w out of it. “They get more self-controlled.”1.What does the underlined word “irrational” in the 2nd paragraph mean?A.Quick. B.Crazy.C.Careful. It’s a weekly tradition that my two little girls and I began years ago. We always go out in the world and do charity(慈善) work. Last Thursday, we were going to buy lunch for the beggars (乞丐) in the street. I ordered 15 lunches from McDonald’s and decided to hand them out.We enjoyed what we saw in the street: a surprised and happy person holding up his lunch bag. Then we noticed a small old woman asking for food. We handed her our final lunch bag. As we got into the car, she started to speak to us. “No one has ever done anything like this for me before,” she said with a smile. “Well, I’m glad that we were the first,” I replied. “So, when will you eat your lunch?” I asked. She just looked at me with her huge, tired brown eyes and said, “Oh, honey, I’m not going to eat this lunch. Y ou see, I have a little girl. I usually can’t afford to buy her the food she enjoys. But tonight she will be so happy!”I don’t know if the woman noticed the tears(泪水) in my eyes. I have questioned many times whether our acts of kindness were too small to make a difference. I have a chance to choose my new place to live in! I’m excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?I’m not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just oneperson, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can’t live with someone who is loud and messy(凌乱的). I don’t have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. A man goes shopping because he needs something. All men simply walk into a shop and ask for what they want If the shop has it, the salesman quicklyfinds it, and the business of trying it on continues at once. All being well, the deal can be and often is completed in less than five minutes. For a man, small problems may begin when the shop does not have what he wants. Then, the salesman tries to sell the customer something else. "I know this jacket is not the style(款式)you want, sir, but would you like to try it for size? It happens to be the color you mentioned." Few men have patience with this treatment, and the usual reply is, "This is the right color and maybe the right size, but I should be wasting my time and yours by trying it on."However, a woman does so in the opposite way. Her shopping is not often based on(以... 为基础) need, and she is only "having a look around". She is always open to persuasion, really she believes in what the saleswoman tells her. She will try on any number of things. Most women have an excellent sense of value when they buy clothes. They are always on the lookout for the unexpected sale. Faced with a roomful of dresses, a woman may easily spend an hour going from one room to another, often going back over again, before choosing the dresses she wants to try on. It is always tiring, but obviously(明显的) enjoyable. Most dress shops provide chairs for the waiting husbands.根据材料内容选择最佳答案,并将答题卡相应选项涂黑。

The villagers watched suspiciously as he built a fire and filled a pot with water With great ceremony(仪式), he pulled a stone from a bag, and dropped the stone into the pot of water. After a moment, he smelt the soup and shouted with excitement, “How delicious the soup is!” As the vi llagers began to show interest, he mentioned how good the soup would be with just a little cabbagein it. Or is intelligence (智力) developed by our environment and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. In some degree, our intelligence is given to us at birth, and no education can make a genius (天才) out of a child born with low intelligence. On the other hand, a child who lives in a boring environment will develop his intelligence less than one who lives in rich environment. Therefore, the limits of person’s in telligence arefixedat birth, whether or not he reaches those limits will depend on his environment. This point of view, now is held by most experts. It is easy to show that intelligence is something that we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be intelligence. If we take two strangers by chance from the population, it seems that their degree of intelligence will be completely different. If, on the other hand, we compare two twins, they will very likelybe as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on birth.Imagine now that we take two twins and put them in different environments. We might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factoryseparatelywhere the work is boring. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this shows that environment as well as birth plays an important role. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact (接触) with each other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of intelligence.1.How is man’s intelligence given?A.At birth B.Through educationC.Both at birth and through education D.Neither at birth nor through education2.What does the underlined word mean in the first paragraph?A.稳固B.确定C.修理D.安排3.According the passage, if a child is born with low intelligence, what might happen to him later?A.Become a genius.B.Still become a genius if he should be given special education.C.Reach his intelligence limits in rich environment.D.Never reach his intelligence in his life.4.What can we learn from the example of the twins going to a university and to a factory?A.The importance of their intelligence.B.The role of environment on intelligence.C.The importance of their jobsD.The part that birth plays5.What statement is TRUE according to the passage?A.No education can help make a genius.B.Personality is important as intelligence which was given to people at birth.C.People who have similar degree of intelligence must be relatives.D.Environment influences people in intelligence developing.Ⅴ.书面表达19、书面表达假如你是李丽,写一封信向你的英国笔友Peter介绍一下中国的餐桌礼仪。
