RGO/PVDF conductive composite membrane

Abstract

Membrane bioreactor(MBR)iS an efficient wastewater treatment system which combines membrane separation technology with biological treatment,and has been widely

used in the world for its high solid-liquid separation efficiency,good quality of effluent water and

stable operation.However,the high energy cost,frequent cleaning after fouling and

membrane etc.,which hinder its further application.Recent studies indicate

replacement of

membrane fouling Can be mitigated effectively when conducting an small electric field on the conductive cathode membranes,which not only reduce energy consumption,but also make the membrane electrode reusable.And it can be used as cathode to couple microbial fuel cell(MFC)to treat wastewater and generate electricity at the same time,which solve the effluent

quality problem caused by anaerobic conditions and limited residence time in MFC,meeting

the emission standards,and generated electricity is used to supply electric field instead of

external power to mitigate membrane fouling.But problems in preparing conductive membranes such as poor conductivity,high production cost,and shedding of the conductive component exist.For preparing novel,low cost conductive membrane with good performance,

the following work has been carried out in this paper:

membrane is prepared by phase-inversion method using the conductive carbon fiber cloth as substrate and polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)doped with graphene oxide(GO)as the casting solution.The formed GO/PVDF composite membrane is heat-treated in hydroiodic acid(HI)

solution to reduce graphene oxide to its reduced form,forming the reduced graphene oxide(RGO)

/PVDF composite membrane.From the characterization conductivity test,it is proved that part

of GO is successfully reduced to RGO,and the prepared GO/PVDF and RGO/PVDF

better thermal stability and conductivity.

Study of the filtration performance and antifouling property of conductive membranes:

different types of model foulants in aqueous solutions including polyacrylamide(PAM),yeast and

humic acid(HA)are tested and filtrated.The results show that the conductive membranes

have great rejection of tested model foulants,and the RGO/PVDF conductive composite membrane exhibit better anti-fouling performance under a tiny external electric field(兰0.6V

/cm).In the process of membrane preparation,the higher the mass fraction of

pore forming agent polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)in the casting solution,the lower rejection of
