The buses in Curitiba, a city in southern Brazil, carry two million passengers a day —that’s 85% of the city’s population. You buy your ticket before you get on the bus. The price is the same wherever you’re going. No one in the city lives more than 400 meters from a bus stop. People don’t use their cars much in the city, so there’s less pollution.

Japanese bullet trains (子弹列车) travel at up to 320 kilometers an hour. The 520-kilometer journey between Tokyo and Osaka, the world’s busiest high-speed line, takes just three and a half hours; by car, it would take seven. Bullet trains are used by many local people. They’re popular with foreign tourists too, because, as a tourist, you can buy a rail pass which gives you unlimited (无限制的) travel during your trip in Japan.

Although most dogs are kept just as pets, assistance (协助) dogs are specially trained to help people with many different types of disabilities. These dogs help their owners live more independent lives. There are several types of assistance dogs, but the most common are guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs.

Guide dogs help blind people get around their homes and communities. Most guide dogs are large dogs like German shepherds, which wear a harness (系带) with a U-shaped handle (手柄). It allows the dog and its owner to communicate. The owner gives directional orders, and the dog makes sure its owner is safe.
