【句式剖析】这是一个sb.was/were doing sth.when...句型,其中的when 是并列连词,意为“在那时”,相当于and then或and at the same time。【句式拓展】when作并列连词时常用于以下句型中:

be doing sth.when...正在做……这时……

be about to do sth.when...=be on the point of doing sth.when...正要做……这时……

had just done sth.when...刚做了……这时……

We were about to set out when it began to rain.

=We were on the point of setting out when it began to rain.

我们正要出发,这时天开始下雨。

【句式剖析】这是一个“too+adj.+(for sb./sth.) to do sth.”句型,表示“太……以至于不能做某事”。

【句式拓展】该结构在大多数情况下表示否定意义,但在下列几种情况下,表示肯定意义:

(1)too...to...这一结构前有never,not,no longer,but,only,all等词时,这一结构表达肯定意义。

(2)not 置于动词不定式前,成为too...not to do结构时,原来表示否定意义的不定式再次受到否定,变为肯定意义,意为“太……不会不”或“非常……必定能……”。

(3)too 后为anxious,eager,easy,glad,happy,pleased,excited,ready,satisfied,kind,willing

等表示态度、心情、倾向等方面的形容词时,too 相当于very much,表示肯定意义。

【名师点睛】

若此句型中作宾语补足语的名词为表示职位或头衔的名词,此名词前不加任何冠词;省略to的不定式作宾语补足语时,变为被动语态后,不定式须带to。

【句式剖析】句中的“if necessary”是省略句,表示“如果有必要的话”,完整的形式为:if it is necessary。

【句式拓展】

(1)在if,unless,when,while,once,although,though等引导的状语从句中,如果含有系动词be的某种形式,且从句的主语与主句的主语一致或从句的主语是it时,从句的主语和系动词be可以省略。
