An _e_a__rt_h_q__u_a_k_e__ happened in Tangshan in 1976. For
a few days, water in the wells _r_o_s_e_a_n_d__f_el_l_. Mice, chicken, pigs and even fish became _n_e_r_v_o_u_s_. And the water pipes in the buildings cracked and _b_u_r_s_t___. But the people in Tangshan _t_h_o_u_g_h_t_l_it_t_le__o_f _ these events. At 3:42 am, everything began to _s_h_a_k_e_. It seemed that the world was _a_t_a_n__e_n_d_. A huge _cr_a_c_k_ cut across the houses and roads, then the city lay _in__r_u_in__s. Two-thirds of the people _d_i_ed__or were _in_j_u_r_e_d_. Then later that afternoon, another big quake shook Tangshan. People began to wonder how long _t_h_e__d_is_a_s_t_er__w_o_u_l_d__la_s_t. But _a_l_l_h_o_p_e_ was not lost. Soldiers came to help Tangshan people. Slowly, the city began to _b_r_e_a_t_h_e__again.
