• It is sometimes argued that the greatest contribution that this work made to English literature was in popularizing the literary use of the vernacular, English, rather than French or Latin.
Geofrey Chaucer
• Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1343 – 25 October 1400), known as the Father of English literature, is widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages and was the first poet to have been buried in Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey. • Among his many works, which include The Book of the Duchess, the House of Fame, the Legend of Good Women and Troilus and Criseyde, he is best known today for The Canterbury Tales.
The significance of The Canterbury Tales
1).It gives a comprehensive picture of Chaucer’s time. The gentle class--- the burgher---- the professionals 2). The dramatic structure of the poem: the stories are well woven by “links”. 3). Chaucer’s humor----- characteristics feature of English literature ---- gentle satire and mild irony.
William Shakespare
Shakespeare has been universally acknowledged to be the summit of the English Renaissance ,and one of the greatest writers the world over. And he is the greatest playwright and poet in the world of the history Karl max regarded Shakespeare’s masterpiece as "the greatest dramatic genius of mankind.“ And his work is built on the basis of a wide range of life, so he created pen at the end of everything made us feel authentic. It has been suggested before, he does not belong to is called 'romantic' the scope of the modern poet, but of 'naturalistic' schools, because his work is full of modern real.
The Canterbury Tales
• The first complete realistic poem of the medieval period.His masterpiece and a representative works of the Middle Ages. • A collection of stories written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the 14th century. The tales (mostly written in verse, although some are in prose) are presented as part of a story-telling contest by a group of pilgrims as they travel together on a journey from Southwark to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. The prize for this contest is a free meal at the Tabard Inn at Southwark on their return.
Cultural Achievements of the Renaissance literature
• Renaissance Literature refers to the period in European literature that began in Italy during the 14th centuryቤተ መጻሕፍቲ ባይዱand spread around Europe through the 17th century. The impact of the Renaissance varied across the continent; countries that were predominantly Catholic or Protestant experienced the Renaissance differently compared to areas where the Orthodox Church was dominant as reflecting on its culture. • The creation of the printing press encouraged authors to write in the local vernacular rather than in Greek or Latin classical languages, widening the reading audience and promoting the spread of Renaissance ideas.

• Don Quixote is Cervantes well-known novel.It's cited as the first classic model of the modern romance or novel, and it has served as the prototype of the comic novel. The humorous situations are mostly burlesque, and it includes satire. Don Quixote is one of the Encyclopæ dia Britannica's Great Books of the Western World, while the Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky called it "the ultimate and most sublime work of human thinking".It is in Don Quixote that Cervantes coined the popular phrase "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" (por la muestra se conoce el paño), which still sees heavy use in the shortened form of "the proof is in the pudding", and "who walks much and reads much, knows much and sees much" (quien anda mucho y lee mucho, sabe mucho y ve mucho).

He was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. His magnum opus, Don Quixote, considered to be the first modern European novel, is a classic of Western literature, and is regarded amongst the best works of fiction ever written. His influence on the Spanish language has been so great that the language is often called la lengua de Cervantes ("the language of Cervantes"). He was dubbed El Prí ncipe de los Ingenios ("The Prince of Wits"). Cervantes' novel Don Quixote has had a tremendous influence on the development of prose fiction.
Shakespeare„s life
• Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613. His early plays were mainly comedies and histories, genres he raised to the peak of sophistication and artistry by the end of the 16th century. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights. • Venus and Adonis,a narrative poem printed in 1593,was Shakespeare‟s first published work The Rape of Lucrece ,and narrative poem ,is a “graver labour”and the subject tragic.The poem is more rhetorical and elaborate than Venus and Adonis and,together with the latter,shows Shakespeare‟s virtuosity as a poet
