F:Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and held towards the end of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change. S: Based on an idea successfully executed in Thailand in 2005, it was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, and achieved worldwide participation in 2008. F: Earth Hour 2013 held on March 23, 2013 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during participants' local time. Hundreds of millions of people turned off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support. S:.Australia's biggest city, Sydney, has switched off its lights for an hour as the Earth Day climate change protest gets under way across the globe. F:This year, Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking part for the first time.The Kremlin due to switch off its lights at 16:30 GMT along with 90 other landmark buildings in Moscow.One person wrote on Twitter: "Sydney Harbour bridge is in darkness for Earth Hour. You can even see the stars!" S:Many cities and provinces across Vietnam, including capital Hanoi, central Da Nang and southern Ho Chi Minh City, joined in the world's Earth Hour 2013 by turning off unnecessary electrical devices for one hour.A campaign for the Earth Hour 2013 had been launched across Vietnam with the slogan, "You and I Together We Act" F:The United Nations participated in Earth Hour on Saturday by turning off the lights at its offices around the world for one hour.This is the fourth year that the United Nations joins hundreds of millions of people around the world in switching off the lights.

英语新闻评论
On Dec. 20, a woman from Shandong province bought a pair of shoes for her child online. When the shoes were delivered to her by Yuantong Express Company, her husband found it extremely smelly. After trying wipe away the black liquid dots left on the shoes box, her husband left the shoes on the balcony. However here comes the tragic. Her husband stated to feel dizzy and sick, half an hour after he was sent to hospital, he died despite emergency rescue. It turned out it was the black liquid left on the shoes poison her husband to death, and the black liquid is kind of dangerous toxic chemical which was leaked while delivering by the express company. And so far, the polluted goods have caused nine persons get poisoned and one get killed. Yuantong express company, the chemical senders and the local postal administration are to blame for this accident. First the chemicals company in Hubei concealed the danger of its goods and insisted the Yuantong express company to deliver this chemical, which is totally against the law that those corrosive chemicals are allowed to be delivered. Secondly, Yuantong express company delayed to report the problems accordingly and try to address the problem simply to cover their mistakes. Last but not least is the relative department especially the postal administration. Their neglecting supervision triggered the violation of delivering regulation. Since the online shopping has become an irreversible trends that contributes a lot to the economy, the relative laws and regulations in various aspects should be enforced or established, so that the consumer’s rights can be well-protected, because we don’t want to get killed by a delivery.

龙源期刊网 https://www.360docs.net/doc/8214623922.html, 新闻在英语教学中的应用 作者：刘威 来源：《新闻爱好者》2009年第12期 近年来由于社会发展，英语的作用变得举足轻重。英语教材内容的老化，教学方式的呆板，以及过级考试的压力，使部分学生逐渐丧失了对英语的学习兴趣。英语教学改革的呼声此起彼伏，使工作在一线的英语教师也感到了肩头的重任。经过几年的教学实践，笔者发现课堂上5～10分钟的英语新闻听写训练起到了良好的互动作用。它调动了学生学习英语的积极性，提高了学生的语用意识，使英语与现实联系起来，不再是纸上谈兵。因此笔者把英语新闻作为教学方法改革的一个方面，并进行了为期一年的调查和实验。 第一阶段：选择“英语新闻”作为研究课题 新闻是对公众具有知悉意义或指导价值的事实报道。它具有真实性和时效性。英语新闻不仅是翻译成英文的中文新闻，而且要求精悍的文字中体现信、达、雅的标准。它的特点是词汇新颖，时代感强，具有传播性。通过对英语新闻的学习，学生可以在听、写、说这三方面得到很大的提高。 课题实例原则。扩大学生的词汇量，提高语言交际能力。 1“英语新闻”的课堂设计的原因。对于英语专业的一年级学生来说，第一学期的课堂前五分钟活动，主要以口语练习为主。学生总是围绕my hobby，my family，my school life，my favorite sport这些话题谈论。到了第二学期，随着学生词汇量的扩大，求知欲的增强，这样的练习已经满足不了学生的需要。经过多次实践证明，英语新闻正是符合学生需求的一种良好的课堂活动。 2“英语新闻”的课堂设计采用的方法。英语新闻在教学的具体实施中，其教学模式可以是灵活多变的，比如读一听—写，听—写—读，听—说—读—写。 实验前进行摸底调查，以所教两个班级的62名学生为调查对象，调查结果显示88％的男生对时事、体育感兴趣，而87％的女生则对时尚、娱乐更为关注。于是在教材中平衡选材， 注意照顾个体的需求，又注意全局的统筹。课前教师要做大量的准备工作，广泛阅读英文报刊，从中找出合适的题材。然后找出新闻中所涉及的相关生词和短语，总结出每一段的大意，并提出相关问题，时间充裕的话，就让学生就某个观点进行讨论。下面举例来说明一下初级阶段学生学习的状态。“5·12”四川汶川大地震后，汶川成了每个人最关注的焦点。学生们在课下谈得最多的也是地震。于是从学生的需要出发，在教学中加进了这一话题。当笔者把标题“Giving young orphans wings to take flight”和一些关键词：倒塌的房屋(fattened buildings)、流血的受伤者(bloodv victims)、志愿者(volun-teer)、堆满(strew across)、震惊的(shocked)写在黑板上时，班里立刻安静下来，学生们快速地记下这些词汇，迫不及待在等着笔者读新闻，因为大地
