Public Speaking
• An interpreter is a secondary speaker(次 级讲话人) in an interpreting situation. His presence is felt most acutely through his appearance and speaking on that particular occasion. No matter how big or small the audience is, the interpreter should be able to behave like a good speaker while he is interpreting, even if the speaker himself is terrible.

• An interpreter uses both verbal and nonverbal means to convey a message effectively. The nonverbal means is body language. Appropriate body language will provide variety, help maintain the audience’s interest and ease the interpreter’s nerves.

Body language
• On the other hand, as the interpreter is not the original speaker, he should be very careful in employing body language. Inappropriate body language will distract the audience, give away the interpreter’s nerves, make him look ridiculous and impair(削弱) his credibility.
