Passage 1:

Asia and Europe are important cradles of human civilization with a long history of scientific cooperation. As early as the ancient times, the two continents had begun to seek benefits for their people through conducting technology exchanges along the "Silk Road". With today's rapid development of technology ／technological progress, global scientific, trade and economic exchanges have become essential to international relations.∥

Both Asian and European countries face economic and social problems , which should be tackled by an overall cooperation in enhancing basic scientific research, industrializing technological findings and protecting the environment. The Chinese government values development of science and technology and its exchanges with peoples from countries all over the world. Up to now, China has joined more than 800 international organizations.

Passage 2:

The WTO entry will benefit China's securities market mainly in the following two aspects. First, the accession to the WTO is good for China's steady economic growth in the long run. It will provide the most basic conditions for the rapid and healthy development of the capital market.∥

Second, following the WTO entry, overseas capital will gradually flow into China's capital market. The improvement of the quality and performance of listed companies will provide a solid foundation for the prosperity and development of the securities market. The market operation mechanism and regulatory rules will gradually be linked with international practice. This will help China's capital market to mature.

This new age that everybody keeps talking about isn't a single trend, but a collection of phenomena. For example, the broadband technology will change forever the way we enjoy entertainment, as the rapid development in wireless technologies has already changed our personal and work habits.

Passage 2:

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I should, once again, like to welcome you to this Asia-Europe Meeting. In the course of our discussions today, I have had the distinct privilege of getting to know each and every one of you better. I feel that these warm personal ties between us. the Leaders from Asia and Europe, are vital to the beginning of a new era in relations between our two regions. I hope to continue to keep in touch with all of you in the months and years ahead.∥

We have had the opportunity today to exchange ideas on what we can do to build a common vision of the future of shared interests and mutual benefit. Many initiatives were proposed. I sincerely hope that in the remaining session tomorrow, we can all join hands to lay out some concrete follow-up measures in order to realize this common vision. May I propose a toast to the success of the Asia-Europe Meeting and to the progress and prosperity of our countries and people. Thank you.
