《闻香识女人》的英文影评(大全五篇)第一篇:《闻香识女人》的英文影评《闻香识女人》的英文影评The Scent of a Woman is the kind of film that many would think belongs to a bygone era. While it is frank and contemporary without sugar coating it illustrates the value of character over glitz and how small acts can have long lasting consequences. The film pits two characters who are diametrical opposites.Al Pacino plays the world weary retired Army Lt.Colonel who through a stupid accident looses his sight and his way of life.Chris Donnelly is a young prep school kid on a scholarship whose way of life may be coming to an end owing to the acts of richer kids at the exclusive prep school who pull a stupid stunt. The blind Lt.Colonel needs an escort so that he can go to NYC and have a rip roaring time before he makes a fateful decision. The poor preppy needs to earn a few bucks to travel and is in desperate need of some advice on how to get through his crisis at school. The interplay between the two characters is mind boggling. It is more riveting than the best Grisham novel. Both characters are asked to make life and death decisions that call for them to reach deep into their inner core. The right decision is unhappily the tougher decision to make. Two terrific scenes that are not to be missed. The first is in the New York ballroom where the blind Lt.Colonel teaches the actress Miss Anwar to dance the tango. It is so smooth and dramatic that even a couch potato is tempted to reach for the Yellow Pages in search of dance lessons. The second and most profound is the speech that Al Pacino makes in defense of Chris Donnelly at the prep school disciplinary hearing. It has to go down as one of the great orations of all times. The Scent of aWoman is very satisfying on many levels. The character development is superb, dialogue terrific, glamorous locations and a story line that requires the characters to show themselves to be the people they really are.The film has a lot of funny lines and great drama.(ZZ from IMDB)Film ReviewBy Frederic and Mary Ann BrussatScent of a WomanDirected by Martin BrestUniversal Studios Home Video 01/93 DVD/VHS Feature Film Rand potentially physically dangerousunfettered, unforced, and highly enjoyable.Unfortunately, considering how sound the bulk of the picture is, the final moments, with their overt pandering to a Hollywood-style ending, are a severe l iability.Certainly, such “triumphs” are fun to watch, but they cheapen Scent of a Woman.Would it have cost the production team that much to inject a little realism into the film's last reel? The movie is as long as its storyline demands. It doesn't seem like two and one-half hours, and less time with these characters would have cheated the audience.Aided by an emotive score from Thomas Newman, the picture has opportunities to soar.Hampered by the script's limitations, however, Scent of a Woman falls short of being a masterful productionThere are few films that I consider to be truly great.I don't mean 'great' in the pedestrian sense of “that's great.” I'm talking “true greatness.”Scent of a Woman has true greatness. It has everything that a timeless classic should have.Unforgettable characters, superb acting, a script that is profound and moving;heartwarming at times and heartrending at others.Music that accents eachmoment perfectly and is never obtrusive.Scenes that are so perfectly directed and edited and imbued with such powerful emotions that they leave indelible impressions on the mind and heart.Scent of a Woman revolves around two main characters: Lieutenant Colonel Frank R.Slade(played by Al Pacino)and prep school student Charlie Simms(played by Chris O'Donnel.) Take a moment to step into the internal world of Col.Frank Slade.Take a look around.See anything? You won't, because Col.Slade is blind. His sight was taken from in in a freak accident some five years before.Col.Slade is a man accustomed to power, to barking orders and taking charge in every situation.Even in his prime, he was impossible to live with. Now, years later, he's blind, “handicapped”, and living at the behest of others. He has not adjusted gracefully to this setback. Now meet Charlie Simms.Charlie is an honor student attending Baird prep school.Unlike the other Baird boys, his family is not wealthy, so he's on financial aid. He's a quiet, introspective and kindhearted young man. He's also very intelligent. He needs an easy weekend job to make some extra money. He see's an ad to housesit a disabled man over the weekend, so he investigates it.The man in need of sitting is Col.Slade, of course.Charlie's first encounter with the Colonel is a memorable one, as the Colonel gives him firsthand experien ce of what a military “dressing down” is like delivered at an extremely loud volume.Charlie is obviously a bit put off by this, but the Colonel's family and caretakers plead with him, so he takes the job.Little does he realize that Col.Slade has his own plans, and they don't involve sitting around being baby sat.Once his family leaves, Col.Slade bullies Charlie into accompanying him on a flight to New York by sheer force of his personality.Charlie attempts to resist, but he is simplyoutmanuevered by the wiley Col.Slade.Col Slade explains to Charlie that he going to New York to take “a little tour of pleasures” that he has been denied by his condition. With much persuasion, Charlie finally agrees to go.Charlie's first impression of Col.Slade is that he is loud, crude, egotistical and highly antagonistic. But as Charlie helps the Colonel navigate from one first class New York locale to another, he andthe Colonel gradually develop a strong mutual respect.Over time, he discovers that the Colonel does have a heart, and can in fact be very charming(especially if there's a lady around.) But despite this, Charley has not seen the worst yet.Eventually, he must confront the Colonel's most deeply hidden fears and outrage concerning his inability to function as he once did. This moment in the movie is *charged* with emotion as both Pacino and O'Donnel deliver riveting performances. In fact, there are so many standout performances in this movie that the Motion Picture Association should slap it with an anti-trust suit;)Another thing this film does exceptionally well is balance the characters of Frank Slade and Charlie Simms.Slade is an outspoken, overbearing bully who has grown weary of the world and with his own failures.Charlie is an earnest and kindly young man who believes that all mistakes can be made right. When they first meet, it seems clear that there is a major power imbalance, with Col.Slade brutally running over Charlie's quiet protestations. But as these two get to know one another better, it becomes clear to both the viewer and to Col.Slade that Charlie possesses great strength, but it is a quieter strength than the Colonels. It is the strength of true integrity and conviction. There are many beautiful scenes where these two men discoverprofound truths about themselves and each other as a result of their conflicts.Scent of a Woman is a rare and beautiful movie. It's a movie about how one man is lost in despair, and how a younger man helps him find his way. There are so many outstanding aspects to this movie that I could go on for pages, but instead I'll just ask you to watch it.Prepare to be amazed.穿帮镜头·西门斯和斯莱德在公寓见面的时候,斯莱德的酒杯和酒瓶里的威士忌在反复变化。
闻香识女人英语观后感英文简短

"Scent of a Woman," a cinematic masterpiece directed by Martin Brest, is an evocative exploration of human resilience, morality, and the transformative power of empathy. This essay aims to provide a comprehensive, multi-faceted analysis of the film, delving into its intricate themes, compelling characters, and profound emotional depth, all encapsulated within its 157-minute runtime.Firstly, the film's central theme revolves around the concept of moral integrity, as embodied by the two principal characters: Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell), an introverted prep school student, and Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade (Al Pacino), a blind, retired Army officer. Their unlikely companionship over a Thanksgiving weekend serves as a crucible for their individual growth and self-discovery. The film poses challenging ethical dilemmas, particularly through the "Hooah" speech delivered by Pacino's character, which eloquently espouses the importance of standing up for one's principles, even in the face of adversity. This powerful monologue underscores the film's message that integrity is not merely a passive adherence to rules but an active, courageous choice that defines our character.Secondly, "Scent of a Woman" is a poignant meditation on disability and the human spirit. Frank Slade, though physically impaired, possesses an indomitable spirit that transcends his blindness. His acute sense of smell becomes a metaphorical lens through which he perceives and navigates the world, hence the film's title. This unique sensory perspective not only accentuates the richness of his character but also challenges societal stereotypes about disability, portraying it not as a limitation but as an opportunity for heightened perception and deeper understanding. The film thus advocates for a more inclusive and empathetic society that values individuals based on their inner strength and character, rather than their physical abilities. The film's narrative structure, characterized by a gradual revelation of each character's backstory and emotional scars, is masterfully executed. Charlie, initially portrayed as a timid, conflicted youth, evolves into a determined youngdepicted as a cantankerous, disillusioned alcoholic, reveals himself to be a deeply wounded soul searching for redemption. Their mutual transformation is a testament to the power of human connection and the potential for personal growth through shared experiences. Moreover, the film's exploration of class dynamics adds another layer of complexity. Charlie, from a working-class background, finds himself at odds with the elitist culture of his prestigious prep school. His encounter with Frank, who embodies a different kind of privilege – that of military service and a bygone era's chivalric codes – exposes him to alternative perspectives on honor and responsibility. This interplay of social classes enriches the narrative, underscoring the universality of human struggles and the potential for cross-generational understanding.Visually, "Scent of a Woman" is a treat, with stunning cinematography that captures the essence of New York City and rural New England. The tango scene in particular, set against the elegant backdrop of the Waldorf Astoria, is a tour de force of choreography, music, and emotive acting. It serves as a poignant metaphor for the delicate dance between life's joys and sorrows, and the importance of embracing both with equal passion. In terms of performances, Al Pacino's portrayal of Frank Slade is nothing short of iconic. His magnetic screen presence, coupled with his nuanced depiction of a complex, flawed character, earned him a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actor. Chris O'Donnell, in his breakout role, delivers a commendable performance as Charlie, effectively portraying the character's vulnerability, confusion, and eventual resolve. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable, making their unconventional friendship all the more convincing and emotionally resonant.Lastly, the film's score, composed by Thomas Newman, is a symphony of emotions that perfectly complements the narrative. From the haunting piano notes underscoring Frank's melancholy moments to the vibrant, Latin-infused melodiesundercurrent, enhancing the film's dramatic impact. In conclusion, "Scent of a Woman" is a cinematic triumph that deftly explores themes of moral integrity, disability, personal growth, class dynamics, and the transformative power of human connection. Through its compelling narrative, multidimensional characters, evocative visuals, stirring performances, and emotive score, it offers a profound, thought-provoking, and ultimately uplifting viewing experience. It remains a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences, reminding us of the indomitable human spirit and the enduring importance of standing tall for what we believe in, even when the scent of adversity is strong.。

闻香识女人观后感英文

闻香识女人观后感英文第一篇:闻香识女人观后感英文A Review of Scent of a WomanName:Student number:Class:Scent of a Woman, a movie tells about a series of stories happened between a blind officer and a poor student.Charlie, who lived in a famous school with a group of rich kids, happened to see a few students prepared to play tricks on the headmaster. After the event, the headmaster asked Charlie to tell the truth and promised that if he did, he would be recommended to go to Harvard. It was so attractive for a poor student who totally depended on his scholarship to pay the tuition. But Charlie was such a good boy that he still chose to stand on the side of friends. With such a psychological burden, Charlie went to meet his employer. The person Charlieneeded to take care of was a blind and cantankerous man, Frank Slade, used to be the lieutenant colonel.During the 26 years on the line, Frank experienced a lot and his eyes was blown out in an accident. He had nothing to do all day at home and lost the courage and confidence to live gradually. Both of them got into trouble, however, after a weekend together, they built a special relationship and found the value of life from each other. What confused me at the beginning is that why such a film named Scent of a Woman. To be honest, when I first heard this name, there was a completely different frame in my mind. However, I seemed to understand something when I watched it the second time.It was amazing that Frank couldidentify women by the smell. From this aspect, I realized that Frank was an experienced man and the name of this movie was just a clue. And I still remember Frank said: “This is just the start of your education, son.” to Charlie when they were on the plane. So I began to change my mind about Frank, actually, he was a cute man with a mask. And after I watched the movie, I had to admire the wisdom of Frank for he always could know what people were thinking and solved the problems by a few words.Besides, the scene he danced with Donna also made me impressive. When Donna said she would be a little afraid of making a mistake Frank answered her: “No mistakes in the tango, not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, get all tangled up, just tango on.”I agree with Frank in this way, we should equip with courage to have a try so that we will never regret when we become old.And the last lecture is worthy of applause.Although Frank was blind he could see more than a normal people, didn't he?However, such a hero as Frank wanted to kill himself after the trip. The littleCharlie was surprised about that, so did I.I guessed maybe Frank could not accept the situation that he suddenly became a blind from a majestic-looking colonel.I believed this was just a very little part of the reason. And after hearing what Rod said I thought that the real reason drove Frank to give up himself might be “lonely”.Frank insisted on the Greek spirit which pursued quality and encouraged people to try their best to do everything they want to do.On the country, Frank's family thought money is more important than quality so they left him alone. What Rod said reminded me of a sentence in the film “You're so wrapped up in sugar;you'veforgotten the taste of real honey!”It clearly showed the view of Frank that quality is more important. As a result, Frank was not accepted by the family. When Frank prepared for his plan of killing himself, he said: “I mean, there's no one wants to tear a herring with me anymore.” and after he was persuaded not to give up, he told Charlie what kept him going all these years was just the thought that maybe one day he could wake up in the morning and a woman still beside him.It seemed so simple, didn't it?But I thought what Frank really want was a companion who understood him.In the climax of the film, Frank was going to kill himself, the reason Charlie gave let him found the hope again.“You can dance the tango and drive a Ferrari better than anyone I've ever seen.”I was not sure what I thought was right or not, as far as my concerned, the magic of this reason was that it was an approval about Frank.Greek spirit believed if you died, no one would die for you and everything would end.Maybe this spirit in the deep heart of Frank was inspired by Charlie so he decided to give up his plan. After they finished their trip, Charlie had to face his problem said the truth or not.Although the other witness George abandoned what he said and passed the buck, Charlie still chose to follow his conscience. With the help of Frank, finally, Charlie avoided being expelled.“There is no prosthetic for that.” I thought this sentence should be remembered by every one of us.At the end of movie, Frank had a pleasure talk with a beautiful woman. It was a wonderful ending. The story happened in Thanksgiving Day, although both Frank and Charlie didn't have a good time with family, they spent a meaningful holiday.Frank found the hope from Charlie and Charlie also learned something that never be taught on the books from Frank, and I thought what they had done for each other was the best gift forThanksgiving.Rod said this was the best movie he had ever seen, he must be deeply attracted by Frank.I think it is the reason why I can find something in common between Frank and Rod.However, views vary from person to person, I can't easily say it is an excellent movie for I haven't totally understood it, but it is a movie worth thinking deeply.Every time I look it back I will have a new understanding.第二篇:闻香识女人英文观后感《西方电影文化——影视鉴赏》My review on Scent of a young and a little shy,but Frank is blind and bed-tempered.On the other hand,we can say these two guys are alike because they both come to a crossroad of their life. For Charles,to insist his faith or Charles that it is shameful to betray friends and at the school metting,he emphasize that so nice Charles is and the headmaster is teaching in a woring way, which is really welcomed by the following students.Being a young, friendly boy.Charles make Frank know that life is treasure that one should never give it up.Two and one-half hour,Scent of a woman teaches us two much,it is really wothy to appreciate. 第三篇:闻香识女人英文观后感My Review on Scent of a WomanThe first time I watched the movie of scent of a woman I was moved deeply.I was moved by the naiveté of Charlie.I was moved by the lecture which was given by Frank Slade. At the beginning of the movie Frank Slade was an overbearing Army officer. He dislikes all the things around him, and he was looking forward to the costly life in New York.Charlie, a student of Baird—a famous college of the USA was in trouble by a practical joke that made by a friend of him.By chance, Charlie got the work to take care toFrank Slade. And then they went to the New York. There Frank Slade found the true life what he should to have, and just there Frank Slade was moved by the naiveté of Charlie. And the naiveté changed Frank Slade. In the school Frank Slade gave all the people a lecture, which saved Charlie.Just this lecture taught how to be a person, a true person. In the end of the movie Frank Slade went to make up with his granddaughter, not like the beginning ofmovie. What I learn from the movie is that as a student I must study hard to gain a good future by myself, no matter how poor or rich my family is.For our friends we should treat them by heart we cannot inform on them to safe our side.We should deal with the trouble together. No matter how they see you, treat them by heart;help them because you are their friend. For ourselves, we must keep up our own mind.We should say what we think.Maybe we will have many ways to choice, the right way may be very hard to pass, maybe many persons choice others way because the right is too hard. But my friend, we should stick to choice the right one, because we cannot sell our soul.Without the soul we can get no future.no matter what situation we are in we must never say give up.What I learn from Frank Slade is we should keep a positive attitude to our life, no matter what mistakes we made, those were past, what we should do is having a good life.No one will live in the dark if he wants.Everyone will make mistakes in the life, but no matter what we have done inthe past, we should head to the sunshine. All in all, the movie taught me how to be a person with an unbroken soul.Only with it I will have a good future.第四篇:闻香识女人观后感对于生命选择的启示——《闻香识女人》观后感这部电影虽然叫闻香识女人,可主人公是一老一少两个男人。

院系:外语系班级:学号:姓名:jinnyReview of Scent of a WomanHearing the movie Scent of a Woman, I thought it is the kind of movie with romantic plots. However the movie called "Scent of a Woman" with no real women? more precisely, it is a movie about men(Frank and Charlie),though there is a scene in the movie in which Frank takes beautiful Gabrielle to the dance floor at the Waldorf Astoria for an impromptu tango performance. I enjoyed watching this movie even more because it reminded me so much of my difficulty in life.Retired and blind Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade is a man with a very complex and powerful personality. When his daughter hires Charlie Simms, who is a student from a poor family at a prep school in New Hampshire, to take care of him over the Thanksgiving weekend, he is in for a roller-coaster ride. Within moments of the daughter leaving for a family reunion, Frank and Charlie are on a plane to New York City. Frank's plan: stay at the Waldorf Astoria, eat at the Oak Room, dance and make love to a beautiful woman, and then kill himself. Charlie is also facing some of his own challenges at school. He is caught up in the dilemma between a bright future in Harvard and getting expelled from the school, all depending on whether to speak out the pranksters in a disciplinary hearing. They are both at the crossroads of their life.During their stay in New York, they experienced a lot of adventures ,at the same time they get to know each other and have gradually influenced each other. Charlie persuades Frank to live on and Frank, while Frank’s powerful speech shocked the Students’ Committee in Baird , made Charlie get no punishment. This is a film about struggles in life and finally finding the meaning of it, full of wit and philosophy. Life is full of dilemma, obstacles and mistakes. The film is supposed to tell us the right attitude towards life: to make a right decision, to hold on and to live on.“If you’re tangled up, just tango on.” It is certainly the most quotable sentence in the whole movie. Frank asks a beautiful lady to tango with him by saying this.Later, Charlie reminds him of it when he is about to hysterically shoot himself to death.I remember the poem never give up written by Churchill. Never give up. Never lose hope. Always have faith. It allows you to cope. Trying times will pass, as they always do. Just have patience, your dream will come true. So put on a smile, you'll live through your pain. Know it will pass. Hold every minute in our life, go out to realize our dream in our heart! Nobody’s life can be always problem-free and full of sunshine. What matters is how to face it. If you never give up under any situation, then you can overcome the difficulties, get out of the difficult positions and obtain success. When we say “Never give up”, tha t means we go ahead in the adverse circumstances. That means we are in the advantageous circumstances, for we still keep on going. We should always keep in mind the three words—never give up.There are many films you can gain strength from them. The Scent of a Woman is one of them, but unlike them, this one is stronger. R emember the sentence“If you’re tangled up, just tango on.”jinny。
闻香识女人英语观后感英文

"Scent of a Woman," directed by Martin Brest and released in 1992, is a film that transcends the boundaries of conventional storytelling, offering an emotionally charged, multi-layered narrative that explores themes of morality, loyalty, and self-discovery. It is a cinematic journey that not only captivates our visual senses but also engages our olfactory imagination through its title, metaphorically evoking the essence of femininity that permeates the story. This essay delves into the various aspects that make "Scent of a Woman" a timeless masterpiece, analyzing its narrative structure, character development, thematic depth, and the powerful performances that bring it to life.Firstly, the narrative structure of "Scent of a Woman" is ingeniously crafted, oscillating between moments of tension, humor, and profound introspection. The film revolves around Charlie Simms (Chris O'Donnell), a financially struggling prep school student who accepts a temporary job as a caregiver for retired Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade (Al Pacino) over Thanksgiving weekend. Their initial encounter sets the stage for a seemingly mundane premise that gradually unfolds into a transformative odyssey, where each character's vulnerabilities and strengths are laid bare. The narrative is skillfully punctuated by unexpected twists and turns, such as Frank's impromptu trip to New York City and his daring tango with Donna (Gabrielle Anwar), which serve to break the monotony and heighten the emotional stakes. These events are seamlessly interwoven with quieter, more introspective scenes, like Charlie's internal struggle over whether to report his classmates' misconduct, showcasing the film's ability to balance intense drama with moments of subtle yet profound character development. At the heart of "Scent of a Woman" lies its exceptional character study, particularly the complex and enigmatic figure of Frank Slade. Al Pacino's Oscar-winning portrayal brings to life a man whose brash exterior masks deep-seated pain, regret, and a longing for redemption. Frank's initial abrasiveness and cynicism gradually give way to reveal a wounded soul yearning for connection and purpose. His transformation, catalyzed by his relationshipwith Charlie and their shared experiences, is a testament to the power of human empathy and the potential for personal growth at any stage of life.Charlie, on the other hand, serves as a moral compass and a canvas upon which Frank's wisdom is imprinted. Initially timid and indecisive, he learns from Frank the importance of standing up for one's convictions and embracing life's challenges head-on. Their evolving dynamic is a masterclass in character chemistry, as their mutual influence fosters growth and understanding in each other, culminating in Charlie's poignant decision at the climactic school assembly.Thematic depth is another hallmark of "Scent of a Woman." The film delves into weighty subjects such as integrity, sacrifice, and the complexities of masculinity, all encapsulated in Frank's iconic line, "I'm just getting started." It questions societal norms and expectations, challenging the notion that success is solely defined by academic or professional achievements. Instead, it emphasizes the value of moral courage, personal integrity, and the importance of staying true to oneself, even in the face of adversity. Moreover, the film's exploration of sensory perception, particularly the sense of smell, adds a unique dimension to its narrative. Frank, despite being blind, possesses an acute sense of smell that enables him to 'see' people and situations in a profound way. This metaphorical use of scent underscores the idea that true understanding often lies beyond superficial appearances, requiring us to delve deeper and perceive the world through multiple senses and perspectives. The film's technical aspects further contribute to its overall impact. The cinematography, with its lush visuals and moody lighting, complements the narrative's emotional fluctuations. The evocative score by Thomas Newman accentuates the film's most poignant moments, while the iconic tango sequence, choreographed to the tune of "Por una Cabeza," stands as a testament to the power of visual storytelling. In conclusion, "Scent of a Woman" is a cinematic tour de force that transcendsits seemingly straightforward premise to deliver a deeply affecting and thought-provoking experience. Its meticulously crafted narrative structure, nuanced character development, profound thematic explorations, and powerhouse performances converge to create a film that resonates long after the credits roll. By inviting us to 'smell' the essence of its characters and themes, it not only entertains but also challenges us to reevaluate our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. A true masterpiece in every sense, "Scent of a Woman" remains an enduring testament to the power of cinema to move, inspire, and transform.。

I recently watched the movie "Scent of a Woman" and was deeply moved by the powerful portrayal of the protagonist's journey of self-discovery. The film tells the story of a young woman who has lost her sense of smell after a traumatic accident, and how she learns to navigate the world and her relationships through her other senses. The film explores themes of identity, connection, and the importance of embracing our experiences, both joyful and painful. Here are my thoughts on the film and its resonating message.
In conclusion, "Scent of a Woman" is a deeply moving and thought-provoking film that offers a powerful meditation on the themes of identity, resilience, and human connection. The protagonist's journey of self-discovery serves as a poignant reminder of the ways in which our experiences shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. I was deeply touched by the film's exploration of these themes, and it left me with a renewed appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit.

Scent of a woman reviewsHave two main characters, the film is a blindness in an accident, since then life from the top to the darkness of the retired military officers, frank, the other one is in selling classmates or give up their future choice of fan mang college students Charlie, the two met by chance, encourage and help each other, become good friends, finally have a new life.Charlie is faced with a difficult choice as he witnesses a practical joke but does not want to betray his friend. History of flange accident blind, at that time very low, but met Charlie, and he talked, history of flange plans to end the lost meaning of life, so in the company of Charlie, enjoy the life of the last trip. He ate the most delicious food, bought fancy cars, raced through narrow streets, lived in luxury apartments, followed the scent of perfume from strange women, danced a graceful and sexy tango... In a frenzy of bliss, he put a gun to his head. However, Charlie's desperate dissuasion changed everything, and the dawn also gradually rose in the heart of the old man, two deep as father and son.The highlight of the article is that the blind ex-soldier, in the identity of Charlie's father, loudly denounced the injustice and ignorance of the headmaster in front of the whole school, which made people deeply humbled by the charm of the ex-soldier and red eyes. This charm even overcomes the pain of the character's fate and brings complex sweetness. The power of this film lies in the sense of the power to fight against fate, to find light out of the endless darkness. This tells us that even when life is at its lowest point, we should stick to it, find our motivation to live, and let it go。
影视鉴赏选修课影评--闻香识女人

The eternal glory: Frank SladeFor the first time I saw the movie: Scent of a Woman, I was completely fascinated by Slade. There is no denying that Slade is a man with catching and intelligence. In the beginning, John is given hell by him. Maybe you would think colonel a gruff and nasty man. But I feel him a dignified man who had a great service in army except that. With the development of the movie, I gradually moved by colonel. Think about it. If you had decided to commit suicide, what would you do before? Maybe you would make yourself a big dinner and say goodbye to ones that you love. So does Slade. He wants to enjoy his life for the last time and farewell to his family.Slade is Slade. He does everything admirably. I love the tango scene, the Ferrari scene and the pseudo-courtroom scene very much. And I especially take pleasure in the tango scene. It’s miraculous that Slade could tell the perfumes’ names accurately though the scent. The woman is such a kingly and elegant girl that everybody can’t help being captivated by her. Slade is so charismatic that nobody in the dining room could find him a blind man. What’s more, the background music is such a beautiful melody that I am deeply moved and hear it again and again after watching the movie. Thomas Newman must be a talented man. Por Una Cabeza is the most touching masterpiece that I have ever heard. When Slade call on his older brother’s home, I’m sure that he comes there with full hope. Slade wants just a little warm from his families. But, the thing that welcomes him is abuse and awkward. His ‘hoo-ha’ which seems that he is unconcerned sells himself. He is sad and he does care it. I grow to sympathize with him. In fact, Slade is in common with us. He hates alone, longs for love and pretends a mighty man. Slade says that he just desires a woman who never abandons him. When I heard that, I’m misty-eyed. Slade is a man with love and he fight with life. He is like a child: natural, defiant, conniving, but easily touched and brave. He masked himself with excess fearless and strong which leads to himself far away from people around him and his blind to see hope and love with him. Fortunately, Slade find his value through his fellow John. He is blind, but he could be loved by people. Everything is hopeful in the end.I enjoyed the movie every minute. It must be admitted that Frank Slade is a man with full enchantment. The man would never be corny and I recommend the movie to everyone.20100360 马璐璐弘深学院理工综合02班。

《闻香识女人》的英文影评

《闻香识女人》的英文影评The Scent of a Woman is the kind of film that many would think belongs to a bygone era. While it is frank and contemporary without sugar coating it illustrates the value of character over glitz and how small acts can have long lasting consequences. The film pits two characters who are diametrical opposites. Al Pacino plays the world weary retired Army Lt. Colonel who through a stupid accident looses his sight and his way of life. Chris Donnelly is a young prep school kid on a scholarship whose way of life may be coming to an end owing to the acts of richer kids at the exclusive prep school who pull a stupid stunt. The blind Lt. Colonel needs an escort so that he can go to NYC and have a rip roaring time before he makes a fateful decision. The first is in the New Y ork ballroom where the blind Lt. Colonel teaches the actress Miss Anwar to dance the tango. It is so smooth and dramatic that even a couch potato is tempted to reach for the Y ellow Pages in search of dance lessons. The second and most profound is the speech that Al Pacino makes in defense of Chris Donnelly at the prep school disciplinary hearing. It has to go down as one of the great orations of all times. The Scent of a Woman is very satisfying on many levels. The character development is superb, dialogue terrific, glamorous locations and a story line that requires the characters to show themselves to be the people they really are. The film has a lot of funny lines and great drama.(ZZ from IMDB)。

The headmaster tells Charles that if he doesn’t tell him the true he will be fired. Frank is blind, and because of this makes him go to the bottom of life, but the tourism of New York help him find himself, and he finds the life passion again.Nowadays, more and more persons lose themselves; they are selfish, dishonest, and snobbish. They lose their soul. But in our society there also are people like Charles. So when we meet the setbacks, we should remember the Colonel’s word: Person's life just a few decades, the most important thing is to not let their own, and maintain a complete soul. Because of a broken leg missing arm is not the ugliest, incompleteness is the soul of the ugliest!。
闻香识女人英文观后感

The concept of "smelling" a woman to understand her is also a powerful metaphor for the importance of paying attention to the often overlooked details in our relationships. In today's fast-paced and superficial society, it's easy to overlook the deeper aspects of a person's identity and personality. The movie serves as a reminder to slow down and take the time to truly understand and appreciate the women in our lives, beyond their outward appearances.

Scent of a women 闻香识女人 英文版观后感 影评

Scent of a WomanWhat I found was a riveting story of mentor-mentee relationship. Although the master is not Mr. Perfect himself. But both the student and the teacher learn from each other's weaknesses. It's a heartwarming tale of opposites attracting when they spend a wild weekend trip in New York that will change the lives of both men forever. This is truly a classic for the ages. Scent of a Woman won the Oscar award. The tango scene, the Ferrari scene, the speech scene are excellent. Of course the primary reason it succeeds is Al Pacino, whose Oscar was well-deserved, needless to say.As the blind, blunt, and ultimately benevolent retired Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade, who through a stupid accident looses his sight and his way ,of life. However,he is quite the charmer and gentlemen. He's cultured, genteel and surprisingly knowledgeable about women's perfume. Slade is wholly believable, and although at first he seems overly gruff and nasty, we grow to sympathize with him--especially when that Randy insults him cruelly at Thanksgiving. It's obvious that while Slade acts like he doesn't care, his repetitious "hoo-ha" response makes it obvious he does.Slade has his own plans for Thanksgiving. A last big blowout in New York before killing himself. When Slade finally decides to kill himself, Charlie manages to save his life.“If you're tangled up, just tango on.”Charlie has problems of his own. He's not particularly self-confident and Slade is tremendously intimidating. Charlie's other problems is an incident at school which places him at a crossroads -- whether he should rat on some kids at school at the headmaster's own brand of intimidation, or face expulsion.Slade sees an underlying goodness in Charlie fragile character. Like most young men his age, he was susceptible to peer pressure and could easily choose the wrong path as his friends had. Slade is blind but easily sees the temptation to compromise the boy's integrity and future. "This old bat has sharper radar than the Nautilus." Slade tells his young league. He lays all the cards out for Charlie to see, but knew it was up to the boy to make his own decision. Charlie eventually shows his true colors in the face of adversity. For one weekend, Charlie and Slade discover that they need each other more than they thought, with different circumstances."Be careful what type of leaders you're making," he warns Charlie. Charlie learns lessons in life that no school could teach him. However, you can't resist a natural and unrestrained man who makes the tango look so easy and elegant. After they return to New England, Charlie and George are subjected to a formal inquiry. Slade unexpectedly returns to the school and launches into a passionate speech defending Charlie. He tells them that Charlie hasshown integrity in his actions and insists the committee not expel him because this is what great leaders are made of, and promises he will make them proud in the future. There are some actor's lines making a vivid impression on me, just like,:“There was a time I could see, and I have seen, boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But there is nothing like the sight of an amputated spirit. There is no prosthetic for that. You think you're merely sending this splendid foot soldier back home to Oregon with his tail between his legs, but I say you are executing his soul!” “Some peopl e live a lifetime in a minute .”“Now I've come to the crossroad in my life. I always knew what the right path was without exception. I knew, but i never took it. You know why. It's was too damn hard.”I love watching movies, especially when I'm alone. It’s just like having a conversation with others , and feeling their experience deeply which help me experience the different cultures and life.Movies will make you laugh, make you cry and make you fall in love with the characters. And it seems that I can take a breath of fresh air from the school studying life. Movies give me a new world, a marvelous world.Scent of a Woman ,a lovely film. Sweet, sad, romantic yet uplifting. It teaches integrity, it shows how important it can be to stand up for whatyou believe in and, it demonstrates how it is possible to work out our problems. Most important, it is a good film that is worth watching.。
