Good morning, professors, although Covid-19 sets us apart and fails us to communicate face to face, modern technology connects us together and we can see each other through the screen. I hope today’s interview will be an impressive memory. Good afternoon,

My name is Yang Yao and you can also call me Summer. I graduated from Jiangxi Science and Technology Common University, majoring in normal English. I will introduce myself in the three following parts: my undergraduate years, my research experience and my interests.

During my college years, I have made great progress in many fields. As a student, I topped my class and my GPA is 4.25 and therefore was granted scholarship many times. Meanwhile, I have successfully obtained many certificate like Catti’s third-level translation. At the same time, I actively participate in the matches related to my major and get the first prize As a member of the Student Union, I strive to finish any assignment perfectly.

As for my academic experience, I took part in undergraduate research paper project and started a research with my colleges about the available study resources for minority language students in Jiangxi province and then wrote a research paper about it. In the end, the thesis was published in the provincial journal Northern Literature. Well, as regards to my interests, I like playing sports, especially running, which helps completely relax myself and constitutes a strong body. Besides, I enjoy reading all kinds of books and have a strong desire to appreciate these classic novels. Among the novels that I have read, Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. My obsession with literature and my desire for literary academic research are some of reasons why I applied literature as my master’s degree. I hope I can be matriculated by your university and have a chance to receive guidance from you professors.

About English and American literature, What’s the difference between them? Which one do you prefer?

First of all, their time of origin is different. English Literature has a long history, which can date back to the Anglo-Saxon period like its national epic Beowulf. American literature has a relatively short period, which starts its formal literature since the arrival of the first group of puritans.

Secondly, they have encountered different period. American go through Anglo-Saxon, renaissance, neoclassicism, romanticism, modernism and post-modernism while American goes through colonial period, reform of independence, pre-war, during-war and post-war.

Thirdly, their writing style after wa r is different. English literature emphasizes their psychological intrepidity to reflect humanity’s evils while American literature reflects
