BOOK3 Unit3 Reading
Good morning,everyone! My topic is the readig passage The Million Pound Bank Note, which is in Unit3 book3.I will be ready to begin this lesson from five parts, analysis of the teaching material,the analysis of the students, teaching methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. Now, let me talk about the part 1, analysis of the teaching material.
Part 1. Analysis of the teaching material
1.Teaching item:This is the first reading in Unit 3 of Module 3. It’s also a main part in this unit. Mark Twain is the greatest humorist of the 19th century American literature as well as a great playwright. Many of his plays are known to people all over the world. And The Million Pound Bank-Note is one of the best. This play is one of the most useful and interesting means by which to improve students’oral English skills.
2.Aims to the teaching
Knowledge goals
Help the Ss understand the main idea of the play.
Let the Ss master some important phrases and sentence patterns.
Ability goals
a. Retell the scene using the key words of the whole scene.
b.Enable students to read and hear natural language in a dramatic context and
increase their self-confidence in using English, which will increase their overall
motivation to learn English.
Emotion goals
By reading the play,the students analyse and unearth the characteristics of the heroes in the play to learn the hypocritical aspect of the capitalism at that time and set up a right philosophy.
3. Teaching important and difficult points
How to interpret language through tone of voice and body language, gaining a greater appreciation of the various verbal and non-verbal ways in which language works.
Part2 Analysis of the students
Our students are almost from the countryside. Some students are not active in the class, and some students do not like english. Therefore , I will have students study in a ralaxed atmosphere.

2.Task –based teaching method
Aids:A multi-media computer and a set of suit.
Part4 Teaching procedures
Step 1: Warming up (5MIN)
Purpose: To train the students’ self-reading ability and warm up.
Read the short passage about Mark Twain, and then fill in the chart.
Step 2: Pre-reading (3MIN)
Purpose: To form a better surrounding for students by speaking and discussions.
Discussion:
Imagine that somenone gives you a large sum of money to spend as you like.What woul you do with it?
Step 3: Reading (30MIN)
1.Fast reading (5MIN)
Purpose: To grasp the main ideas and some details of the text
Answer some questions (who, when, where, what..)
2. Skimming (7MIN)
Purpose: Get the students to comprehend the whole scene quickly and accurately and meanwhile help the students to form a good habit of reading.
Fill in the form
3.Careful reading (10MIN)
Purpose: students will read the text again and try to understand the sentences and the main ideas of the whole scene.
Answer some multiple-choice questions
4.Post reading (8MIN)
Purpose: To have a better understanding of the characters and the play.
Fill in the blank(retell)
Analysis of the characters
Step4: Homework (2MIN)
1.Read the passage and find out some example of polite request.
2.Give a possible development to the story.
Part 5 Blackboard design
On the top of the blackboard, I can write the topic of this less. On the left, I will set a serious of clues of text on it. And on the right, I will write some key words or phrases to help students to memorize.
The purpose of my design is to help the students to understand the reading material better. And then develop the students’ ability of reading. Thank you.
