At the same time, about thirteen hundred American teenagers will go to other countries to learn new languages and gain a new understanding of the rest of the world. Here is a two-way student exchange in action.Fred, nineteen, spent last year in Germany with George’s family. In turn,George’s son Mike spent a year in Fred’s home in America.Fred,a lively young man, knew little German when he arrived, but after two months’ study the language began to come to him. School was completely different from what he had expected—much harder.Students rose respectfully when the teacher entered the room. They took fourteen subjects instead of the six that were usual in the United States. There were almost no outside activities.Family life, too, was different. The father’s word was law,and all activities were around the family rather than the individual.Fred found the food too simple at first. Also,he missed having a car.“Back home, you pick up some friends in a car and go out and have a good time.In Germany, you walk, but you soon learn to like it.”At the same time,in America,Mike,a friendly German boy,was also forming his idea.“I su ppose I should criticize American schools,” he said.“It is far too easy by our level. But I have to say that I like it very much.In Germany we do nothing but study. Here we take part in many outside activities.I think that maybe your schools are better in training for citizens. There ought to be some middle ground between the two.”1.The whole exchange program is mainly to______.A.help teenagers in other countries know the real AmericaB.send students in America to travel in GermanyC.let students learn something about other countriesD.have teenagers learn new languages2.What is particular in American schools?A. Get started,” he said.We looked at him and were confused.Wasn’t he going to teach us?“Is there something wrong with your ears? You’re not all deaf, are you?”A brave boy at the back of the class asked what we all wanted to know.“Mr.Stevens,aren’t you going to teach us?”Mr.Stevens said,“You’re smart kids.Open your b ooks and get to it.If you have any trouble or any questions, raise your hand, and I’ll help you.”My friend Paul and I exchanged glances and opened our books to the first chapter(章).A competition began.Paul and I spent all our free time at home working through the lessons.Mr.Stevens,keeping his word, helped anyone who was stuck in a problem. We worked hard and finished two and one half math books the first year.It was a turning point in my life.Mr.Stevens made me realize I was good at math and also able to reach the top of any class I attended.Monty Python’s Flying Circus was a popular television show back then. The actors brought the best British humor into our Canadian lives.Mr.Stevens would often act out one of their skits in front of the class. Some thought he was strange, and I guess he was,but he knew how to make a math lesson interesting.9.What was special about Mr.Stevens, according to the author?A. 3月27日英语作业命题人:徐红一、阅读理解ADo you have trouble trying to create the next big idea? Sometimes the answer isn’t to just force an idea out of your mind. Instead, you might want to try sitting back, relaxing and letting your mind wander. Yes, you heard that correctly. If you are in need of a new idea, try daydreaming.Researchers from the university of California, Santa Barbara, found an association between daydreaming and creative problem-solving. Their study includes having participants first do an “unusual-us e task”. They had to try to come up with as many different ways to use an object as they could. Then, the participants chose to do one of the following four things before doing the “unusual-use task” again: complete a difficult task; complete an easy task; take a 12-minute break; or skip the 12-minute break and move right on to the task exercise again.Surprisingly, the group that performed best was the one that completed the easy task. Many participants reported that they were daydreaming while performing the easy task. So the researchers believed that this daydreaming might have helped unlock their creativity. But how could daydreaming help the brain come up with creative ways? The answer is something known as “unconscious thought”. Even when you are not a ctively working to solve a problem, it is still in the back of your mind. Your brain is still thinking about the problem, but in a much more subtle (不易察觉的) way. When you daydream, your mind is allowed to think in ways it normally would not. Because it is free of control, it can create completely new and out-of-the-box ideas.Great ideas never come easily, but that does not mean you always have to work hard to get them. Feel free to do what you want and let your mind wander.1. The “unusual-use task” in Paragraph 2 means that participants ________.A. complete an easy taskB. complete a very difficult taskC. take a 12-minute breakD. think of various ways to use an object2. What does the underlined phrase “unconscious thought” in Paragraph 5 mean?A. Your brain wanders in a subtle way within your control.B. Your brain knows clearly what you’re thinking and doing.C. Your brain is thinking about a problem outside of your awareness.D. Your brain refuses to receive any information from the outside world.3. The passage mainly wants to tell us that ________.A. brainstorming is important to creative ideasB. daydreaming is a way to improve creativityC. problem-solving skills are important in our livesD. the more we exercise brains, the more ideas we’ll getBMore than a quarter of parents use a device to track or monitor their kids’ online activity, finds a survey from Common Sense Media and Survey Monkey. It’s far more than the percentage of teens (15%) who think their parents are tracking or monitoring what they do online. Whether all that snooping(调查)is effective seems unclear. Only 30% of teens who responded to the survey said their parents were “extremely” aware or “very” aware of what they do online. By comparison, 52% of parents believed they we re “very” aware of their kids’ web activity.“There’s a pretty big difference between parents who say they know and what kids say parents know,” said Michael Robb, director of research for Common Sense Media. The online survey was among a national sample of 884 teens and 3,282 parents of teens.Options for tracking kids’ online activities vary from tools for your router capable of tracking the websites users visit to apps letting you review your child’s smart phone call logs and text messages.Devorah Heitner, author of the book Screen Wise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) In Their Digital World, suggests mentoring kids about best online practices instead of monitoring. If parents do choose to monitor, they should talk with their kids first. “You have to really ask yourself what you think you’re going to learn by monitoring your kid,” she said, “What’s your plan of action if you see something that concerns you?”Other findings from the survey: Snapchat is the app that causes the most anxiety for parents. The survey found 29% said the messaging apps make them most nervous, followed by Facebook at 16%. Teens don’t like Facebook as much as Snapchat or Instagram. More than three-quarters of teens said they use both messaging apps, but only 49% said they use Facebook, while 42% said they use Twitter.Robb said Common Sense Media plans to partner with Survey Monkey on future online polls because the pace of technology is so rapid. “These surveys will be a quicker way to take the pulse of parents and teens.”4. Which of the following is true according to the survey?A. Snapchat is the biggest worry for both parents and kids.B. Some parents choose to use apps to track their kids’ online activity.C. Twitter will cooperate with Facebook on future online polls.D. Kids are aware that over 25% of parents use a device to track their online activity.5. By mentioning “There’s a pretty big difference between parents who say they know and what kids say parents know” in Paragraph 2, the author intends to ________.A. inform that the snooping seems to be ineffectiveB. warn that the kids are being monitored by their parentsC. predict that more and more parents will monitor their kids’ online activitiesD. indicate that the number of parents tracking teens online is beyond the kids’ imagination6. Which of the following opinions will Devorah Heitner most probably agree with?A. Parents had better not monitor their kids’ online activities.B. Parents should communicate with their kids while monitoring their online activities.C. Parents need to ask their kids permission before guiding them about online activities.D. Parents must often reflect on their purpose of monitoring their kids’ online activities.7. What can be inferred from the passage?A. It is too young for kids to go online.B. Teens don’t like Facebook at all.C. Michael Robb is confident of the future online polls.D. Common Sense Media plans to partner with Survey Monkey in the future.二、七选五Much of the work in today’s world is accomplished in teams. Most people be lieve the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals. ____8____ Companies spend millions hiring top business people. Is their money well spent?____9____ They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. For football and basketball, adding talented players to a team proves a good method, but only up to the point where 70% of the players are top talent; above that level, the team’s performance begins to decline. Interestingly, this trend isn’t evident in baseball, where additional individual talent keeps improving the team’s performance. To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate(协调) their actions. ____10____ In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates. They conclude that when task interdependence is high, team performance will suffer when there is too much talent, while individual talent will have positive effects on team performance when task interdependence is lower. If a basketball star is, for example, trying to gain a high personal point total, he may take a shot himself when it would be better to pass the ball to a teammate, affecting the team’s performance. Y oung children learning to play team sports are often told, “There is no I in TEAM.” ____11____Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort. Just as in a game of tug-of-war(拔河比赛), whenever a person is added, everyone else pulls the rope with less force.____12____ An A-team may require a balance—not just A players, but a few generous B players as well.A. It’s not a simple matter to determine the nature of talent.B. Sports team owners spend millions of dollars attracting top talent.C. The group interaction and its effect drew the researchers’ attention.D. Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship.E. Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world.F. Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent.G. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball.三、完形填空October 31st, 2017 was not just another Halloween for me. 高一英语作业优秀案例范文As a high school student, I believe that completing homework assignments is an important part of my academic success. It not only reinforces what I have learned in class, but also allows me to demonstrate my understandingof the material. In my opinion, an excellent homework assignment should be well-organized, thorough, and demonstrate critical thinking.First and foremost, a well-organized homework assignment should have a clear structure. This includes a title, an introduction, a body with main points and supporting details, and a conclusion. Each section should flowlogically from one to the next, making it easy for the reader to follow the line of reasoning.Secondly, a thorough homework assignment should coverall the necessary points and provide detailed explanations. This demonstrates that the student has a deep understanding of the material and is able to apply it in a meaningful way. It should also include examples and evidence to support the arguments being made. Finally, an excellent homework assignment should demonstrate critical thinking. This means that the studentis able to analyze the material, draw their own conclusions, and present original ideas. It should not simplyregurgitate what was taught in class, but rather show a deeper level of understanding and engagement with thesubject matter. In conclusion, completing high-quality homework assignments is an important part of my academic success. 3月23日英语作业命题人:严书萍一、阅读理解AWhich is sillier: denying(否认) we ever went to the moon or trying to make the true non-believers believe?Once upon a time—July 20, 1969, to be exact—two men got out of their little spaceship and wandered around on the moon for a while. Ten more men walked on the moon over the next three and a half years.Unluckily, not quite. A fair number of Americans think that this whole business of moon landings really is a fairy tale. They believe that the landings were a big hoax(骗局) staged in the Mojave Desert, to make everyone believe that U.S. technology was the “best” in the whole wide world.Which is the harder thing to do: Send men to the moon or make believe we did? The fact is that the physics behind sending people to the moon is simple. You can do it with computers whose entire memory capacities(记忆容量) can now fit on chips the size of postage stamps and that cost about as much as, well, a postage stamp. I know you can because we did. However, last fall NASA considered spending $15,000 on a public-relations campaign to make the unimpressed believe that Americans had in fact gone to the moon. That idea was mostly a reaction to a Fox television program, first broadcast in February 2001, that claimed to expose the hoax. The show’s creator is a publicity hound(猎狗) who has lived up to the name in more ways than one by hounding Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. Mr. X (as I will call him, therefore denying him the joyous sight of his name in print) recently followed Buzz Aldrin around and called him “a thief, liar and coward” until the 72-year-old astronaut finally lost it and hit the 37-year-old Mr. X in the face.Anyway, NASA’s publicity campaign began to slow down. The nonbelievers took the campaign as NASA’s effort to hide something while the believers said that $15,000 to convince people that the world was round —I mean, that we had gone to the moon—was simply a waste of money. (Actually, the $15,000 was supposed to pay for an article by James E. Oberg, an astronomy writer who, with Aldrin, has contributed to Scientific American.)If NASA’s not paying Oberg, perhaps it could put the money to good use by hiring two big guys to pull Neil Armstrong out of the house. Armstrong is an extremely private man, but he is also the first man on the moon, so maybe he has a duty to be a bit more outspoken about the experience. Or NASA could just buy Aldrin a commemorate plaque(纪念匾) for his recent touch on the face of Mr. X.1. We can learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3 that some Americans believe __________.A. moon landings were inventedB. U.S. technology was the bestC. moon landing ended successfullyD. the Mojave Desert was the launching base2. According to the writer, which of the following is responsible for the story about the hoax?A. NASA’s publicity campaign.B. The Fox television program.C. Buzz Aldrin.D. JamesE. Oberg.3. The believers think that NASA’s publicity campaign is __________.A. proof to hide the truthB. stupid and unnecessaryC. needed to make the non-believers believeD. important to develop space technology4. The tone(语气) of the article is __________.A. angryB. happyC. humorousD. objectiveBAs I was busy working on my work plan in my bedroom, I could hear my four children playing upstairs. Suddenly, I heard the children running down the stai rs and shouting, “Freddie, Freddie.” I heard the word “window” and rushed outside, heart in mouth. My three-year old son1Freddie was lying on his side on the ground. I cried for my husband Simon to dial 999 and within minutes the air ambulance arrived. They quickly took him in the helicopter. During the flight, Freddie was looking at me and I remember thinking was a good sign, but then his eyes began to roll. As the doctors tried to stabilize(稳定) him, I couldn’t believe what was happening. When we arrived at the hospital in Portsmouth, there were some doctors and nurses waiting for us and they immediately set to work on Freddie. I was hopelessly wishing everything would be alright, but Freddie had broken his skull(颅骨) in two places and blood clots were forming in his brain. He needed surgery(外科手术), and only a surgeon at another hospital in Bristol could do it. This meant another helicopter ride, but we couldn’t go with Freddie because there was no enough space. Simon and I drove the long 130 miles from our home in north Devon in silence. Neither of us dared say what we were thinking, “What if we get there and he’s dead?” “Is he going to be brain-damaged?”Freddie was just coming out of surgery when we arrived. The surgeon said it had gone well. When I finally saw him, I hardly recognize my child—he was covered in tubes and there were wires coming out of his head.On the third day, Simon went home to see our three girls and to pick up some clean clothes for us. While he was gone, the pressure in Freddie’s brai n suddenly increased. He was taken into theater again and this time I fell apart. Luckily, the surgery managed to stabilize Freddie. After almost a week, Freddie was finally woken up. When he opened his eyes, he looked at me. He didn’t say anything, but I knew straight away that it was my old Freddie, and that he was going to be alright. Over the next two weeks, his recovery went well. After help with learning to swallow again and encouragement with speaking, he was soon playing with his Gruffalo cards and eating meals by himself.I still don’t know how the accident happened, but we got some idea from our girls. Clearly Freddie and Minnie had been sitting on the window ledge, and Freddie must have opened it to look out and fallen 20 feet onto the ground below. The guilt I feel is awful—for weeks I was full of “if onlys”, and we put window locks everywhere. Six months later, although the accident seems a lifetime ago, it has changed me. I feel differently about life now. I’ve left my job to put my children fi rst. I want to spend every minute with them.5. The underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 shows the author was __________.A. hopelessB. worriedC. curiousD. puzzled6. When the author finally saw her son, she could hardly recognize him probably because his face __________.A. was seriously injuredB. was filled with small pipesC. was too pale to be recognizedD. was covered by a piece of cloth7. On the third day after being taken to the hospital, __________.A. the author’s son finally opened his eyes.B. the situation of the author’s son suddenly worsenedC. the author’s son was finally out of dangerD. the author’s son did not need any more surgery8. After the accident, what did the author probably learn?A. Life is full of “if onlys”.B. Being a single mother is not easy.C. Children are more important than work.D. Accidents can happen to every kid.二、七选五The iPod GenerationToday it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears wherever they go. While their mothers give them lectures about why they should do their homework, they can just turn up the volume on their MP3 player, smile, and say “Yes, Mum.” Problem solved.Pretty soon, not only will we have pretty colored wires hanging from our ears—but also our brains will be directly plugged into some new high-tech instruments. We’ll be in a virtual world, communicating with everyone else, or choosing not to, as we like. In this world, we will all be permanently plugged in. ____5____ And they are changing our social habits along the way.In the end, there is a thin line between using technology as a tool for making life better and being a slave to it! In the home situation, teenagers love these wires.D. I don’t have to deal with the noise from the environment.E. Alter all, I am listening to my favourite music and would rather not be disturbed.F.
