② bull 原意是“公牛”,这里是用作bullshit 委婉说法。

Way to go! 这句简短好学的话,跟路可没有什么关系。
Way to go! 这句话,是用来表达你的支持与鼓励,好比有人表现得很不错,你就可以送上Way to go! “有一套喔!”这句话给他。
A: I got an 'A' on my exam!
我的考试得了A。
B: Way to go! I knew you could do it.
有一套喔!我就知道你可以的。
(当然,一句话到底是褒是贬,要看当时的情境而定,Way to go!也可以用来讽刺损人。
)
A: Ouch! I think I just broke my toe.

B: Way to go, *clumsy. Now I guess I have to take you to the hospital.

当他人有事情交代的时候,为了表明自己不会拖延,会尽速办理,你就可以用上这句短语first thing tomorrow,好让对方安心。
当然由于事情的轻重缓急有所不同,赶办的时间也可以视情况而代换,好比first thing in the morning“一早赶办”,first thing Monday“周一赶办”等等。
A: When are you going to start working on this project?
你何时会开始进行这个计划?
B: I'll get to it first thing tomorrow.
我赶明天就马上进行。
A: Let's send a fax to our Hong Kong office first thing Monday.
让我们在星期一尽速发一份传真给我们香港办事处。

① reinforcements (n.) 增援,救兵
② manage (v.) 得以做到

ugly 除了大家所熟知的意思“丑的”,另外的常用意思是“(事态)剑拔弩张”。
something gets ugly... 的意思是指事态大有一发不可收拾的情势,或彼此的关系处于紧绷的紧张状态。

事情弄到已经快要撕破脸了。
B: I'm going to leave before it gets any worse.
我要在这里变得更糟糕以前先离开。
① Trust me on that. “相信我就对了。
”这句话用在怂恿对方相信自己所说的话。
② meet the deadline 赶上最后期限。
meet 在此指“符合、满足(要求)”。
③ figure out 理解,弄清楚。

可能是无预警的天灾。

暴风雨来时,瑞克根本措手不及。
B: Yeah, he didn't know what hit him. He was probably killed instantly.
对啊,他不知道被什么袭击。
他八成是当场毙命。
(也可能是人祸,遭人暗算。
)
A: When she left with all his money, Dirk just *sat around month after month.
她带着他所有的钱离开,迪克就这样月复一月地呆坐。
B: It's understandable. It all happened so fast. He didn't know what hit him.
可以理解。
这发生得很突然。
他根本不知道是怎么回事。
(*sit around 坐着发呆,无所事事。
)
① evil (a.) 邪恶的
② drive在此指“钉木桩”的动作,stake 就是“木桩”。
drive a stake through one's heart“木桩穿心”原来是对付“吸血鬼”vampire 的必杀技,在此是因Elvin 觉得Zina 太过邪恶才这样比喻。
③ keep one's cool 保持镇定、冷静
Vince: That's right. Once the contract with is final, we'll ①deal with Zina.

be in the driver's seat 意指“坐在驾驶座上”,坐在这个位置的人,理当是在“控制全局,掌控一切”。

mad about 有两个主要意义,一个是上面对话中所表现出的“生气”,另一个是“沉迷、热衷于”。
例如:I guess they're mad about the performance of their baseball players.

萝丝相当着迷于安迪。
A: Did you say Jack wasn't mad about our spending more than 100 dollars of his money?

get by 就是指“状况还过得去”,而在使用上,主要的状况有两种,一是指经济状况,get by用来表示钱虽然赚得不多,但是也够支付日常生活的开销了。

B: I'm able to get by, but it could be better.
我的生活还过得去,不过还可以更好。
get by也可以用来表示心理状态,形容心情持平,不能说心情不好,但也不是那种兴高采烈的情绪。

B: I'm getting by OK. You know, things just keep getting better and better.

算是渐入佳境啦。

B: Don't push your luck. If the boss hears you say that, you'll be without a job.
你别得寸进尺。
要是老板听到你说这话,你连工作都会没有。
I'm in.这个好用又好记的短句的意思是“我加入”。
举凡你被询问到参加的意愿,只要你想加入,都可以用上这个句型;
相反地来说,若你不想加入,或是加入了以后想要放弃,你就可以说I'm out.“我退出,我放弃”。
A: We're all going swimming in the lake. Are you coming?
我们要去湖中游泳,你要来吗?
B: Yep, I'm in.
好,我加入。

跟这个惯用词相近的还有have a lot on one's plate,“有很多事要忙”。
