One common misconception is that a person who’s had a bang(猛击) on the head shouldn’t be allowed to go to sleep in case they slip into a deep unconscious state. 1 The fear of letting people sleep has come about from a misunderstanding of the "lucid interval(清醒期)". 2 Yet meanwhile their brain is bleeding, causing pressure on the tissue of the brain. If this causes them to lose consciousness again, this time it’s a medical emergency. This lucid interval only occurs in a minority of cases.
3The guideline is given by many different organizations from World Rugby to Britain’s NHS. But if someone is not confused or throwing up, or has no double vision or trouble walking or severe head or neck ache, the recommendations do not include the advice to keep them awake. In fact rest is what’s needed, both physically and cognitively(认知地). So athletes not only have to stop training for a time after a heavy bang on the head, but should also stop taxing their brains. Children who have banged their head should do less school work until they have fully recovered. 4It’s not bad, it’s a go od thing.
This is the current advice, although it should be said that until very recently, very few trials have tested the advice that is given, something that worries some researchers.
5So we should soon have more information on the best way to care for people after a head injury.
A. The good news is that new trials have been underway.
B. However, this is not the current medical advice that’s given.
C. Sleep is recommended, but that doesn’t always mean it’s easy.
D. The brain needs to heal by doing less and sleep is perfect for it.
E. Children with a head injury should be woken per hour or two at night.
F. It refers to the period after waking up from unconsciousness, seeming fine.
G. However, the possibility of bleeding on the brain is the reason for looking out for
symptoms.

2.F 【解析】F项中的"It"指代上文的"the ‘lucid interval(清醒期)’","waking up from
unconsciousness, seeming fine"与下文中的"meanwhile their brain is bleeding"构成转折关系,符合语境。

This lucid interval only occurs in a minority of cases"构成转折,
G项中的symptoms与下文中的"…confused or throwing up,or has no double vision or trouble walking or severe head or neck ache"相呼应,故选G项。

5.A 【解析】根据上文中的"very few trials…some researchers"及下文所说的对于照顾头

Christmas was coming. I wanted a pony, a kind of small horse. To make sure that my parents understood, I declared that I wanted nothing else.
"Nothing but a pony?"my father asked.
"Nothing,"I said.
"Not even a pair of boots?"
That was hard. I did want boots, but I stuck to the pony. "No, not even boots. All I want is a pony,"I said. "If I can’t have a pony, give me nothing."
On Christmas Eve I hung up my sock along with my sisters’.
The next morning my sisters and I woke up at six. Then we raced downstairs to the fireplace. And there they were, the gifts, all sorts of wonderful things. Only my sock was empty;not a thing in it;and under and around it — nothing. My sisters had knelt down, each by her pile of gifts;they were crying with delight till they saw me standing there looking so miserable. They came over to me and felt my sock:nothing.
I don’t remember whether I cried at that moment, but my sisters did. They ran with me back to my bed, and there we all cried. Then I went out alone into the stable(马厩) and there, all by myself, I wept. My mother and sisters came out to me and tried to comfort me. But I wanted no comfort and I ran away from them.
I went around to the front of the house, sat down on the steps. The crying over, I was wronged, I was hurt. And my father must have been hurt, too. I saw him looking out of the window. He was watching me or something for an hour or two, drawing back the curtain so little in case I caught him. But I saw his face, and I could see the anxiety upon it, the worried impatience.

Paragraph 2:
The man came along, reading the numbers on the houses.

可能会用到的画线词有pony, a pair of boots,wonderful等。

A new study has found that social media could be affecting the sleep of young adults.
The study is a project of researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. They found that young people who often use social media are more likely to suffer from sleep disorders than those who use social media less. The researchers say doctors should ask young adults about their use of social media when treating sleep issues.
"This is one of the first pieces of evidence that social media use really can affect your sleep,"said Jessica C. Levenson. She is a postdoctoral researcher in the university’s Department of Psychiatry. She was the lead author of a report on the study. The researchers set out to examine the connection between social media use and sleep among young adults. Levenson noted that these young adults are possibly the first "generation to grow up with social media".
The researchers wanted to find out how often young people used social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. For the study, they gave questionnaires to nearly 1,800 adults, aged 19 to 32. On average, members of the study group used social media sites one hour a day. They also visited various social media accounts 30 times per week. Thirty percent of the study’s participants reported having serious problems with sleeping. Those people who used social media a lot were three times more likely to have a sleep disorder. And those who spent the most time on social media were two times as likely to suffer from sleep disturbances.
Levenson said the number of times a person visits social media is a better predictor of sleep problems than overall time spent on social media. If this is true, she adds, then practices that stop such behavior may be most effective.
