UNIT 1一．词汇1）starveVi：表“饿死，挨饿”，可与介词to搭配。

They starved to death.Vt：表：“使挨饿，使饿死”The lady is starving herself.Phrases：starve for=be starved for表”渴望获得，迫切需要”，The patients are starved of / starving for medicine. (相当于long for ; be in great need of ) 2）plentyn. 丰富, 充分, 大量We have plenty of time to finish the job.adj. [常用作表语]很多的, 足够的This is plenty.adv. (=quite) 完全, 十分plenty good enoughPhrases ：in plenty ; plenty of 许多，大量注：plenty宜用于陈述句, 在疑问句或在否定句中一般用enoughWe have plenty of food for the holiday.Have you enough food for the holiday? We have not enough food for holiday.3）satisfy (与interest 等词类似)Vt：表示“满意，使满足”，直接跟宾语，若接that从句时，意思是“使相信”.sb. be satisfied with 对……满足sb. be satisfied to do sth 满足于做某事Satisfy sb. with 以……满足satisfy…for 向……偿还4）harmn : 意为“损害”，常与do，come，mean等动词搭配。

do harm/ good to sb. = be harmful/ good to sb. = do sb. harm/ good 对某人有害There’s no harm in doing sth.= It does no harm for sb to do sth 做某事无害处do sb. wrong = do wrong to sb. 委屈某人，做对不起某人的事Vt: 表示“损害，伤害”。

What's the origin of your anxiety? 你焦虑的根源是什么?be of origin 起源于，出身于6）eventn : 表“事变，事件”，既可以指历史上的，国际上的，国内的大事件，也可以指日常事件,复数形式还可以指事态的发展和结局，也可以指体育比赛中的“项目”。

常见词组：at all events/in every event总之，无论如何，不管怎样in the event结果，终于in the event of万一，如果，倘若in that event若果那样的话7）dressVt: 表“给……穿衣”，后接人作宾语dress himselfVi: 表示“穿上衣服，穿着衣服”。

dress up 穿上盛装，打扮dress in + 衣物n : 衣服，衣物dress sth. up修饰，掩饰8）trickplay a trick on sb=play sb a trick 捉弄某人，开玩笑(以下为近似短语)make fun of sb. / laugh at / make a fool of sb. / play a joke with sb. / joke with sb.9）memoryin memory of 纪念，追念lose one’s memory“失去记忆”，可能永远也想不起来；slip sb’s memory指一般想不起来，可能不知道什么时候又想起。

within one’s memory = within the memory of表示“记忆所及的时间”。

10）gain (经过努力)获得（后面+ 所需之物）表“获得”，指经过努力取得；亦表“增加，增进；（钟，表）走得快”。

gain the children ‘s confidencewin 表示在竞争中去的胜利，常跟的词有game war fame battle 等。

11）gatherVt: 意为“搜集，采集，恢复，积累，加速”。

亦可表“推断，得出（印象，想法）Vi : 表示“聚集，群集”。

phrases：gather oneself together振作精神gather oneself up集中全力，鼓起勇气gather round 聚集在……周围12）admireadmire to do高兴做admire sb. for sth.在某方面钦佩某人admire at对……感到羡慕，对……感到惊讶13）forwardlook forward to doing/n 盼望，期待push one’s way forward 挤着向前走come forward 走出来put forward 提出backward and forward 来回14）take place表“发生”有计划目的性，不及物动词，不能用于被动语态。

辨析：take place，happen，break out：take place 有计划的发生，多指运动，变化，进步，会议，婚礼等。

Happen 偶然发生或者意外事件的发生。

break out表突然发生,爆发，强调出人意料，多指地震，火灾，疾病，瘟疫等的突然发生。

take one’s place 表示“代替某人，执政，上台”。

take the place of 表示“取代，代替”。

15）fool的短语make fool of欺骗，捉弄act/play the fool 瞎胡闹，逗乐fool around/about无所事事，胡混fool sb. into doing sth . 欺骗某人干某事fool away把（时间）胡混掉fool with 玩弄，戏弄16）apologizeapologize to sb for doing sth因为做了某事向某人道歉make an apology to sb for doing sth道歉17）drown表示“淹死，淹没，浸泡，沉浸于”。

drown one’s sorrow in drink借酒消愁drown sth out淹没18）wipewipe sth from/off sth把……从……上擦掉/擦净。

wipe out擦拭（盆，碗等的）内部，除去，消灭，摧毁。

wipe over 再擦一遍。

wipe the floor with sb（在辩论中，竞赛中）把某人打得一败涂地。

19）weepweep about为……而哭泣weep at看到/听到……而哭泣weep away一直哭weep for/over因……而哭泣weep out哭着抒发掉20）forgiveVt: 表“原谅，赦免,宽恕”，有时可以接双宾语。

基本助动词有三个：do, have和be；情态助动词基本的有十四个：may, might; can, could; will, would; shall, should; must, need, dare, used to, ought to, had better 上述两类助动词的共同特征是，在协助主动词构成限定动词词组时，具有作用词的功能。

1）构成否定式。

2）构成疑问式或附加疑问式。

3）构成修辞倒装。

4）代替限定动词词组。

UNIT 2一．词汇1）dietn : 表”日常饮食”on a diet 节食V：表“节食“。

2）energy，power，force辨析energy 能量，能源，精力。

power 能量，思维能力，权力等各种力量或能力。

force 物理意义上的力，也只为做某件事而使用的力量、武力等。

3）balancen : 表示“天平，秤；平衡，平稳“。

be/hang in the balance 不确定的，尚未决定的keep one’s balance 保持平衡lose one’s balance 失去平衡，心烦意乱on balance 总的来说,考虑周全V：表示“权衡，平衡”；balance A against B / balance the two plans4）signn: 表“记号，符号，标志，标记，手势，迹象，指示牌”等。
