There were many plants in a forest. When spring came, a pine tree saw a red rose nearby and said, “What a beautiful flower! I wish I were that lovely.”
The rose proudly said, “It seems that I am the most beautiful flower in this forest.” Then the rose looked at a cactus (仙人掌) and said, “Look at that ugly plant full of thorns!”

Spring passed, and the weather became very hot. As there was no rain, the red rose began to wilt (枯萎).
One day the rose saw birds put their beaks (喙) into the cactus and then fly away. The red rose asked the pine tree what the birds were doing. The pine tree explained that the birds were getting water from the cactus.

A recent study from a team of South Korean researchers suggests that eating alone often may lead to poor eating habits and poor food choices. Specifically, the study found that men who ate alone more than twice a week had a greater risk of developing high blood pressure and other diseases.
For children, eating with their families is not only about preventing bad results—it is also about developing good ones.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) looked at data from nearly three-quarters of the world’s countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with families were less likely to skip school(逃学). Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to use drugs and alcohol(吸毒酗酒).
In the report, named “The Importance of Family Dinners”,researchers say that “teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what’s going on in their lives”. They also say that when teens say they feel closer to their parents, they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Another study from the University of Montreal found that children who ate with their families experience long-term physical and mental health benefits. These children were physically in better shape and drank fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seemed to have better social skills and they were less aggressive(好斗的).
Professor Linda Pagani says that mealtimes shared with parents “likely provide young children with first-hand social communication, discussions of social events and day-to-day matters”.She adds that they may likely help the child have better communication skills with others.

As we are getting older and older, our ability to think and remember starts to become worse. But not everyone is like this. Some people are super-agers, who are over the age of 80, but have the brain of much younger people.

Develop healthy relationships goes much more slowly. In her recent study, Emily Rogalski, a neuroscientist (神经科学家), showed that super-agers have young brains. The area of the brain for attention and memory was shown to be thicker in super-agers. “When we look at a super-ager’s brain, we see that it looks more like a 50-year-old brain than an 80-year-old one”.
▲ Most of them like travelling and playing sports. They always enjoy reading. And they usually have healthy relationships and spend time with friends. “Growing old,” she adds, “does not have to be depressing and sad. Perhaps if we expect a little better from ourselves, we’ll understand that not all getting old makes us sad”.
Rogalski said jokingly that super-agers do not grow on trees — meaning they are special and few. She says she wants to find out why a super-ager’s mind is working so well and not getting old as quickly as most.
The science behind super-agers is a new, but growing field. It attracts many scientists. Scientists in the research offer the advice to us: Stay active. Learn new things. Challenge yourself. Develop healthy relationships. We may also become super-agers if we follow the advice.

We often reach a point in our life when we should be ready for change that will help us unlock our self-improvement power. However, there’s always something staring at us right under our nose but we don’t see it. The only time we think of unlocking our self-improvement power is when everything gets worst.
When do we realize that we need to change diets? When none of our shirts and jeans fit us. When do we stop eating candies and chocolates? When all of our teeth have fallen off. When do we realize that we need to stop smoking? When our lungs have gone bad. We think about changing only when the whole world is falling apart. We think and feel this way because it is not easy to change, but change becomes more painful when we ignore(忽视) it.
Unlocking our self-improvement power means unlocking ourselves out of the box of thought that we are just the way we are. It is such a poor excuse for people who fear change.
Jane always tells everyone that she doesn’t have the courage to be with groups of people. She heard her family tell the same things about her to other people. Over the years, that is what Jane has believed. Every time a great crowd come, she steps back and locks herself in a room. Jane not only believes in her story, but lives it!
Exercising three times a week would result in a healthier life. Reading books every day would build up knowledge. And only when we are enjoying unlocking our self-improvement power will we realize that we’re beginning to take things light and become happy.
46.T he writer mentions the three questions in Paragraph 2 to show that _.
A.we learn our lessons when we experience pain
B.we are responsible for the problems we meet
C.life fails us when we get into the wrong way
D.life is a long journey full of ups and downs
47.According to the passage, what is the key to solving Jane’s problem?
A.She needs to remember why she started.
B.She has to know how to get on with people.
C.She has to realize she is not what she is in her story.
D.She needs to understand the importance of confidence.
48.The writer probably agrees that .
A.ignoring change can make us happier
B.people change when they find it easy to do that
C.welcoming change in life helps us to become better
D.enjoying self-improvement makes life more difficult
49.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Is it important to take things light?
B.Is it necessary to face challenges?
C.To hold on to the last moment or to give up?
D.To unlock ourselves out of the box or to stay in it?

解析:

3. 可以积累get/win the first place/prize,其中the 可以省略。

5. the number of …

7. be on business

8. a/this pair of 后面接动词的单复数由pair 前面的数量词决定,这里指由妈妈做的,be made by sb. feel 这里指摸起来,做系动词,前面it 做主语,正好也指明第一空用单数。

注意区别be famous to sb.
You are welcome./ That’s all right./That’s OK./Not at all./No problem./My pleasure./It’s my pleasure. 注意区别That’s right.

When will you arrive?

Unless = if…not.这里也可以说if I am not invited, I will never go to his party.
