时态、情态动词与虚拟语气

原文：

今天下午，我去了北京图书馆。在这之前我曾经去过两次。今天，我又翻阅了上次没看完的一部小说，并且还想借一本新的小说。但是当我准备离开的时候才知道，我想借的那本小说就在几分钟前已经被人借走了。我很懊恼，很后悔自己前天没有来借小说，因为如果昨天来的话，现在我说不定已经把它读完了。我准备明天再来借这本小说，我想，如果明天来，等到下周末的时候，我应该已经读完这本小说了吧？

错误分析：

1)：“我又翻阅了上次没看完的一部小说”。这篇文章，你的开头基调是“过去时”，所以时态的判断需要以此为基准。“我又翻阅了一部小说”为过去时，而“上次没看完”是在“这次翻阅”之前，属于“过去的过去”，所以根据时间轴应用过去完成时。I hadn’t finished.

2)：第二个错误与第一个类似。“我想借”是过去时，“几分钟前”是过去的过去，仍然是过去完成时。不过，在这里，由于这个“过去的过去”与主动作的发生时间仅仅相差几分钟，在时态上不需要太多的强调。所以习惯上，这里的时态和主句一致就可以。仍然是was borrowed.

从此往后开始错误比较多

I felt regret that I should borrow the novel the day before yesterday 1）2)，because if I came to the library, I should finish it already 3). I should go there tomorrow 4).I suppose that if I borrow it tomorrow, I’ll finish this book till this weekend 5）.

错误分析：

1）首先这个句型有问题。I felt regret that….这个句型的意思是对that引导的内容表示后悔。

而原文“很后悔自己前天没有来借小说”，你的句子“I felt regret that I should borrow the novel the day before yesterday”显然与原句的意思相反。改正的方法是，直接把一个句子拆成两个句子，也就是把that去掉。

2）时态上的错误。“自己前天没来借小说”。我“今天”去的图书馆，“前天”没来借小说。

所以这里仍然是“过去的过去”，所以只要你写成I hadn’t borrowed it the day before yesterday。即可。

但是这样改，仍然不是一种完美的改法。因为主句这句话表达的意思，“我后悔前天没有来借小说”，实际上是在说，“我应该前天来借小说”。所以这里我们就应该使用一个特殊的句式：情态动词引导的完成时。

“我应该借”，是I should。而“我前天应该借”，则用完成时。I should have borrowed.

所以这里最恰当的写法是：

I should have borrowed it the day before yesterday.

3)原句：如果昨天来的话，现在说不定已经读完了。

你的句子：If I came to the library, I should finish it already.

我们来看。“如果昨天来的话”，意思是我昨天没有来。所以这里，要用虚拟语气。If I had come to the library。“现在说不定已经读完了”，这里可以根据语气的强弱，用两种表达方式：

1．If I had come to the library, I would have done it already. 这里采用的是would have done. 用这个句式说话，代表你的口气很坚定，就是很肯定“如果我昨儿来了，现

在肯定搞定了！”

2．If I had come to the library, I might have done it already. 这里是might have done. 这个句式，代表你的口气很不确定，“如果我昨儿来了，我现在‘说不定’已经搞定

了”。当然按照原文，这种表达方式更加准确。

3) 原句：“我准备明天来借小说”。这里的情态是作者在现在为将来会发生的事儿做准备所

以应使用将来时。Will，shall可以表示将来时，而表示主语个人意愿时，则多使用shall。
