Abstract:Many researchers have made many studies about food culture. At present, the relative researches include the following three aspects: the underlying causes to the differences between Chinese and Western food culture, the differences between Chinese and Western food culture and the different cultural background between Chinese and Western food culture. Most of them choose to make a comparison or a contrast to analyze every aspect of the differences between Chinese and Western food culture, the underlying causes and the meaning to have a further research to these differences. These researches on the differences between Chinese and Western food culture and different cultural backgrounds are very valuable and helpful for the people who will study Chinese and Western food culture in the future. Meanwhile, it’s a golden opportunity to learn both Western and Eastern cultures and promote the communication and development between two countries.
摘要:许多学者已经对中西方饮食文化做了研究,这些研究主要集中在三个方面:造成中西方饮食文化差异的潜在原因,中西方饮食文化的差异研究,中西方饮食文化的不同文化背景。他们中的大部分人都是采用比较和对比的方法来分析得出中西方饮食文化差异的方方面面,造成这些差异的原因以及进一步分析研究这些差异有什么意义。这些关于中西方饮食文化的差异研究及文化背景研究对于后人研究饮食文化是很有意义和价值的。同时,这也是个了解中西方不同文化,增进中西方交流与发展的好机会。
There is a saying that“Food is eating all-deserved for human life, so food is an indispensable condition for the survival and development of human beings. Thus, food culture plays an important part in the world culture. What is culture? What is food culture? America famous newly chemical representative figure White is called “father of cult urology”, he put the culture as a kind of special and objective social phenomenon, and as a complete system (White, 1949). So specially, what is culture? Chen Huawen once lists cases to illustrate the connotation and importance of culture. He said “culture is like air and water that permeates every corner of our lives, people are enjoying the culture achievements that were created by predecessors in every time, also, people are inventing new culture in every moment. Our progress is the result of the culture creation and developing.” (Chen, 2001) If foreign language learners are lack of knowledge for its behavior and function, it will appear inappropriate behavior, resulting in the communication barriers, and it is difficult for effective cross-cultural communication. Sun Weixue (2004) once pointed out any country in the world should carry out cultural exchanges and publicity actively. How to define food culture? It has two definitions in broad and narrow sense. In the broad sense, food culture has something in common with cooking culture, and it is considered as the counter part of the latter. Generally speaking, cooking culture refers to the total amount of material and spirit treasure which is created and accumulated during the long period of food production and procession by the human being. It is about what food human makes and how to make it. In the narrow sense, food culture refers to the sum-up of material and spirit treasure created and passed down in the long period of human eating the food product. It’s about what human eat, how they eat and why they eat etc. It includes the variety of food, the tools used in eating, the customs of eating, and the service of eating act and so on. Food culture is an important part in human culture but there are some differences between different food cultures. This does not only benefit to their native culture, but also spread the culture worldwide. This paper attempts to make a comprehensive review about the researches on food culture from which will lay a solid foundation to the writing of my graduation paper.
