Big Geospatial Data Analysis: Curriculum
Description
In this course the students gain knowledge about basic technologies of big data analysis, as well as gain insights into the complex phenomena in the geospatial domain.
Topics related to geospatial analysis, complex networks, map generalization and visualization in the big data era will be covered, and in-course discussions and labs.
Requirements
The course addresses students of the master and PhD programme “Geomatics Engineering”,“GIS and Cartography” and “Planning” at School of Resource and Environmental Sciencesand students ofgeography at Wuhan University. Thesuccessful graduation of the course “Cartography“ at the Department of Cartography andGeoinformation is recommended.
Before this course, the students are recommended to read through the reading list to gain a basic background of the course and the line of discussion. Also students are recommended to take with their laptops to the classroom for exercise and labs.

Prof. Dr. Bin Jiang bin.jiang@hig.se
Dr. Bin Jiang is Professor in GeoInformatics and Computational Geography at University of Gävle, Sweden. He is also affiliated to Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) at Stockholm via KTH Research School. He worked in the past with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University College London’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis. He is the founding chair of the International Cartographic Association Commission on Geospatial Analysis and Modeling. He has been coordinating the NordForsk-funded Nordic Network in Geographic Information Science. He used to be Associate Editor of international journal Computer, Environment and Urban Systems (2009-2014), and currently Academic Editor of open access journal PLOS ONE, and Associate Editor of Cartographica. His research interest is geospatial analysis and modeling, in particular topological analysis of urban street networks in the context of geographic information science. One can refer to his ResearchGate and Google Scholar pages for more details on what he specializes in.
