Class 6 – Exercise Testing Lab

Before Testing

Starting the System

1.Plug in computer system

2.Turn on (switch on back of cart at bottom left corner)

3.Turn on computer at front (under Dell symbol)

4.Plug in treadmill (dedicated outlet)

5.Turn on treadmill (switch on back)

6.Attach patient cable (stored in cupboard) on side of cart

7.Check paper tray on printer

C onnecting and Checking the Electrodes

Impedance Check

1.Click Impedance Check button in the top center of the screen. The software will

check the quality of the electrode connection

2. A diagram will appear showing the electrode connections

3.Check that the lead set is “Standard 12 Lead”

4.Click start to begin the impedance check.

∙“Sequence” in the Test Mode Box will check each electrode - highlighted in the Site (Lead Wire Label) section – and give an impedance value.

The electrode will also be colour coded on the torso diagram based on the

measured impedance.

∙“Manual” in the Test Mode Box allows user to select the electrode to be checked by clicking on it on the torso or in the Site (Lead Wire Label)

section.

5.Results:

∙Green = good connection

∙Yellow = fair

∙Red = poor → fix the electrode or install another one

∙If the RL is not connected or fails, all others will show white (open)

6.Click Exit when you are finished checking the electrodes

Entering Patient Information

Entering a Patient

1.Click the New Patient Test icon. The Patient Selection screen appears.

2.The program will search the database to see if this patient has previous entries.

You can search by:

∙Last name of the patient

∙Medical record number

∙SSN (social security number – USA)

3.Type the data in the correct field and click Search

4.The database will be searched to see if there is a record for this patient. Any

matching entries will be listed at the bottom of the screen. Highlight the line and press Select.

5.If there are no matching entries, click New to create a new record.

Patient Demographic Information

Date of Birth

∙When the date of birth is entered, age is calculated automatically

Age

∙You may skip the date of birth entry and enter the age directly.

Max Predicted HR

∙Calculated from the patient’s age based on the formula selected in the Set Up Procedure. You can override this value by manually entering a value into this

field

Target HR

∙Calcul ated from the patient’s age based on the formula selected in the Set Up Procedure. You can override this value by manually entering a value into this

field

Gender

∙Select from the drop-down box

Test Parameters

∙There are 7 tabbed sections used to set up parameters. Click on the tab name to see the choices for that parameter

∙Refers to the various items that comprise the current exercise test settings: -Exercise Device – required (treadmill, ergometer, pharmacological)
