Routine Design:
– All the knowledge for the mapping from the problem space to the solution space is available.
Innovative Design:
– Some of the knowledge for the mapping process in the solution space is missing.
– Assistant Design Systems
Suited for analysis tasks. Main goal: aiding the designer in the design tasks. Perform part of the design process. More interactive with the designer.
Creative Design:
– There is missing knowledge in all design spaces.

RoΒιβλιοθήκη Baidutine Design
– Expert Design Systems
Suited for synthesis tasks. Main goal: provide complete solutions to the designer. Perform the whole design process. Less interactive with the designer.
Design: creation of a structure complying with a set of functional specifications and constraints.
Design Tasks as defined in [Reich, 91] (adapted).

Control over the design process
– High-level: Designer. – Low-level: System.
Designer and System explore the design space through interaction.
Difficulty of identification of designer’s intention.
