You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Even if you know some freshmen (新生) , you still feel nervous that you don't know any upperclassmen or teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces? Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts, which is helpful not only because you can know your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognise a few familiar faces. When you talk to your new classmates, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with them can help you develop friendships. The work in high school is something that freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learnt in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.High school also has more extracurricular activities than middle school does such as clubs, music and theatre groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.High school gives you the chance to learn how to manage your time, to develop your social skills and interests, and more importantly to be more independent and responsible.1.What does the underlined word “orientation” mean in Paragraph 2?A.Training.

Test 1The bus screamed to a stop in Nazareth, Israel. Five Australian backpackers boarded and struck up a conversation with me. They asked typical travelers’ questions—where was I going and why was I traveling alone? My plan was to travel with a friend o f a friend, I explained, but when I called her that morning, she didn’t pick up and I had no other way to reach her. My stomach was in knots, but I decided to head out anyway, thinking I might run into her if I traveled to Tiberius, where we had planned to go together.“Why don’t you travel with us?” one of the backpackers offered. They were experienced adventurers who would work for a few months, save, then travel for as long as they could. Their current plan was to explore the Middle East and Europe in three months while working in London. It seemed risky to travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes. For the next two weeks, I explored Israel with the backpackers and learned to trust my instincts in all types of new and interesting situations. When they hook a ride, I took the bus, but when they wanted to steal into the King David Hotel’s swimming pool, I led the way. The world opened up to me because I chose to travel alone. I joined complete strangers, who become close friends. Years later, one couple from the backpacking group even flew from Sydney to Phoenix to be in my wedding. The trip was such a special experience that it gave me confidence in all areas of my life. Since then, I’ve backpacked alone across South Africa, sky-dived from 12,000 feet in New Zealand and even moved across the U.S. with no job lined up.On my third day wandering in Israel with my new friends, I bumped into the woman I was supposed to meet. Though I was happy she was all right, I was grateful she hadn’t picked up the phone.1.By “My stomach was in knots” (in paragraph 1), the author most likely means that she was ______.A.sick of riding on a bumpy bus B.nervous of meeting strangersC.upset about the sudden change D.sorry about the impractical plan2.Which of the following best describes the backpackers the author met?A.Courageous but disrespectful.B.Jobless and poorly educated.C.Warmhearted and trustworthy.D.Homeless but lighthearted.3.The author’s sixth sense told her that ______.A.she would get along with the backpackers B.it might cause trouble to have a swimC.she ought to stay away from the backpackers D.it could add excitement to get a free ride4.What can be inferred from the passage?A.Most of the backpackers became the author’s lifelong friends.B.The author gathered the courage to be a fulltime backpack traveler.C.The woman missed the phone call with the purpose of traveling alone.D.The author considered it the best decision of her life to travel on her own.【答案解析】这是一篇记叙文。

第二部分专题一第5讲【真题达标组】A(2018天津卷,B)When I was 17, I read a magazine article about a museum called the McNay, once the home of a watercolorist named Marian McNay. She had requested the community to turn it into a museum upon her death. On a sunny Saturday, Sally and I drove over to the museum. She asked,“Do you have the address?”“No, but I'll recognize it, there was a picture in the magazine.”“Oh, stop. There it is!”The museum was free. We entered, excited. A group of people sitting in the hall stopped talking and stared at us.“May I help you?” a man asked. “No,” I said. “We're fine.” Tour guides got on my nerves. What if they talked a long time about a painting you weren't that interested in? Sally had gone upstairs. The people in the hall seemed very nosy(爱窥探的), keeping their eyes on me with curiosity. What was their problem? I saw some nice sculptures in one room. Suddenly I sensed a man standing behind me. “Where do you think you are?”he asked. I turned sharply. “The McNay Art Museum!” He smiled, shaking his head. “Sorry, the McNay is on New Braunfels Street.”“What's this place?” I asked, still confused. “Well, it's our home.” My heart jolted(震颤).I raced to the staircase and called out, “Sally! Come down immediately!”“There's some really good stuff(艺术作品) up there.” She stepped down, looking confused.I pushed her toward the front door, waving at the family, saying, “Sorry, please forgive us, you have a really nice place.”Outside, when I told Sally what happened, she covered her mouth, laughing. We never told anyone.”“That was my home.I was a teenager sitting in the hall. Before you came over, I never realized what a beautiful place I lived in.

1.what is the main idea of Paragraph1?2.what is the main idea of the last Paragraph?3.the first Paragraph is mainly about_____.4.what is mainly discussed in Paragraph25.what does the fourth paragraph mainly talk about?

(1)what is the main idea of the passage?(2)What is the main subject of this passage?(3)What is the main topic of this passage?(4)The passage is mainly concerned with______.(5)What does the passage mainly discuss?(6)What can be concluded from the passage?(7)What is the main theme of the passage?(8)What is the passage mainly about?(9)The passage mainly discusses____.(10)The main idea of the text is______.(三)文章标题类文章的标题是文章的眼睛,通过这双“眼睛”我们可以略知文章的大意。

(1)the best title for this passage would be /might be/ is___.(2)what might be the best title of this passage?(3)The most suitable title of the passage is _____.(4)Which is the best suggested title?

4.以according to the text, from the text开头,考查某一细节。

How did something happen?Which of the following people should (not) do?Where should somebody do something?(2)不完整的陈述句Sometime can be best classified as______.According to the author, “it” was caused by_____.(3)排除式(4)Which of the following is not mentioned in the passage?Which of the following is not included in the passage?

1.what does the underlined word”...”mean in the passage?2.The word”....”refers to/probably means”____”3.The underlined word”.....” in Paragraph means”____”.4.What do you think the expression”____”stands for?5.“____”as used in the passage can best be defined as””.6.Which of the following words can take the place of the word”....”?7.The underlined word”...”is closest in meaning to”...”.8.The underlined word”....”could best be replaced by””.

1.the text probably comes from___.2.Where does this text probably come from?3.This text is likely to be selected from a book of____.4.The passage is likely to appear in_____.

1.what’s the purpose of writing the text?2.The writer’s purpose of writing this passage is to____.3.In writing the passage, the author intends to_____.4.What does the author want to tell the readers through the story?5.What’s the main purpose of the passage?

What’s the author’s attitude to/towards......?

1.what can we infer from.....?2.What can be inferred from the passage?3.What can we learn from......?4.The author implies that.....?5.Which of the following statements does the passage support?
