高中英语(人教版选修9)教师用书:Unit 1 阶段质量检测 A卷 学业水平达标(含答案)
A卷学业水平达标【说明】本试卷满分120分,考试时间100分钟Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AEvery day we experience one of the wonders of the world around us without even realizing it. It is not the amazing complexity of television, nor the impressive technology of transport. The universal wonder we share and experience is our ability to make noises with our mouths, and so transmit ideas and thoughts to each other’s minds. This ability comes so naturally that we tend to forget what a miracle (奇迹) it is.Obviously, the ability to talk is something that marks humans off from animals. Of course, some animals have powers just as amazing.Birds can fly thousands of miles by observing positions of the stars in the sky in relation to the time of day and year. In Nature’s talent show, humans are a species of animal that have developed their own special act. If we reduce it to basic terms, it’s an ability for communicating information to others, by varying sounds we make as we breathe out.Not that we don’t have other powers of communication. Our facial expressions convey our emotions, such as anger, or joy, or disappointment. The way we hold our heads can indicate to others whether we are happy or sad. This is socalled “body language”. Bristling (直立的) fur is an unmistakable warning of attack among many animals. Similarly, the bowed head or drooping tail shows a readiness to take second place in any animal gathering.Such a means of communication is a basic mechanism that animals, including human beings, instinctively acquire and display. Is the ability to speak just another sort of instinct? If so, how did human beings acquire this amazing skill? Biologists can readily indicate that particular area of our brain where speech mechanisms function, but this doesn’t tell us how that part of our bodies originated in our biological history.语篇解读:本文是一篇议论文。

B卷能力素养提升【说明】本试卷满分120分,考试时间100分钟Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIn today’s information age, it’s nearly impossible to avoid using social media. According to USA Today, even American universities are increasingly using social media as a learning tool. Their goal is to teach students how to use social media professionally.Jade Johnson is taking an upperlevel advertising course at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. For the class, he has had to organize and promote a contest via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, channels that are commonly used by advertising firms.“A lot of times students prefer not to use certain social media, but are forced to because of the class,” says Jade. Some students may be reluctant to create an account, but Jade says that it was helpful because social media skills mean better job opportunities in today’s world.More college classes are appearing that are designed specially to teach students about social media, offering them a different look into something they may use on a daily basis.Jenna Kapsis, a senior at William Paterson University, was required to post two Tweets on Twitter and one update on Facebook per week in her Digital and Social Media Communication class. The course had a specific Facebook page where students would create discussion groups and post links.“Some of the topics included social media manners, online marketing and current events,” Kapsis says.As technology continues to develop, colleges and universities will likely continue to find ways to combine it into their teaching. Whether it’s to create discussion groups, carry out plans, or communicate with students, professors are ensuring that students can see the potential of mastering social media platforms.A.Improving students’ learning efficiency.B.Offering students a different look into things.C.Contributing to the possibility of acquiring good jobs.D.Bettering the communication between teachers and students.解析:选C 细节理解题。

B卷能力素养提升【说明】本试卷满分120分,考试时间100分钟Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AAs the population of the planet increases, so doesthe number of homes, businesses, parking lots, schools, airports and roadways. All these structures useelectricity and need to be lighted. Humans demand these lights. They want their homes more comfortable and they want their streets safer. The problem is that researchers are finding that all the light is having a negative effect on humans and wildlife as well.Less than ten years ago I drove to a thinly populated section of my town, lay down in the middle of the road and watched an attractive meteor shower (流星雨). The area was short of homes, street lights and traffic. If I did that today, I wouldn’t be able to see the meteor shower as well. Due to the increase in street lights, I would surely be run over by a car.Nowadays scientists are finding light pollution can be almost as bad as carbon dioxide pollution. If you’ve ever taken a flight at night, the view is beautiful, but you must remember that all the light you see wastes electricity. The crew of the space shuttles see an even bigger picture of how extensive the wasted electricity is worldwide. One of the saddest parts of light pollution is that most of it is unnecessary and most of the outdoor light that we use is wasted. One only needs to look at a row of street lights to see how much of the light shines upwards and lights the sky; a total waste of electricity.Additionally, somewhere electricity needs to be produced, and the production of electricity creates pollution by releasing greenhouse gases. This affects the air we breathe and our quality of life.Scientists are also studying the effects of light pollution on wildlife. Thousands of birds die each year when they crash into highly lightedbuildings, as they become puzzled by the light. It has been long known that tiny baby sea turtles become lost and follow lights on the shore instead of heading towards the sea.Fortunately, light pollution is one of the easiest sources of pollution that can be corrected without a negative effect. Following some guidelines and a little searching on Google can give you many ideas on how to reduce your contributions to light pollution.pollution is ________.A.reducing the output of the lightsB.avoiding the use of unnecessary lightingC.educating people about light pollutionD.inventing environmentallyfriendly lights解析:选B 推理判断题。

B卷能力素养提升【说明】本试卷满分120分,考试时间100分钟Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)ASince Henry Ford turned it into a massmarket product acentury ago, the car has delivered many benefits. It haspromoted economic growth, increased social mobility and givenpeople a lot of fun. But the car has also brought many problems. It pollutes the air, creates traffic jams and kills people. An astonishing 1.24 million people die, and as many as 50 million are hurt, in road accidents each year.Drivers and passengers waste around 90 billion hours in traffic jams each year. In some carchoked cities as much as a third of the petrol used is burned by people looking for a space to park.Fortunately, a new technology promises to make motoring safer, less polluting and less tendency to holdups. “Connected cars” — which may eventually develop into driverless cars but for the foreseeable future will still have a human at the wheel — can communicate wirelessly with each other and with traffic management systems, avoid walkers and other vehicles and find open parking spots. Some parts of the transformation are already in place. Many new cars are already being fitted with equipment that lets them keep their distance and stay in a motorway automatically at a range of speeds. Soon, all new cars in Europe will have to be able to warn the emergency services if their onboard sensors (传感器) discover a crash. Singapore has led the way with using variable tolls (道路通行费) to smooth traffic flows during rush hours; Britain is pioneering “smart motorways”, whose speed limits vary constantly to achieve a_similar_effect. These new inventions could create a much more highly effective system in which cars and their drivers are constantly warned of dangers and showed the ways. Traffic always flows at the proper speed and vehicles can travel closer together, yet with less risk of crashing. In the past, more people driving meant more roads, more jams, more death and more pollution. In future, the connected car could offer mankind the pleasures of the road with rather less of the pain.语篇解读:文章主要介绍了未来的汽车。

He even reached a point where he felt like he hadnothing to live for.“I was walking around with a lot on my shoulders,” he said.“I couldn’t handle it. I didn’t care about life anymore.” But all that started to change when Wright met Patricia Kelly.“I was seven when I met Mrs Kelly.I wasn’t used to strictness. I wasn’t used to hearing the word ’no’,”said Wright, now 17.Kelly, a former soldier and an equestrian (骑手), took Wright under her wing and helped him find hope in an unlikely place — on a horse.“Wright was like a round peg that everybody kept trying to squeeze into a square hole,” Kelly said.“He was hurting. He needed a place where he could express himself. The riding field became that place for him.”For the last 30 years, Kelly has helped children stay on the right track through her nonprofit, Ebony Horsewomen. The program offers horseback riding lessons and teaches animal science to more than 300 young people a year. By exposing those children to horsemanship, Kelly aims to give them an alternative to the streets and an opportunity to turn their lives around.“We use horses as a hook to create pride, esteem and healing,” said Kelly, 66.“They learn that they have ability. They just have to unlock it.”“When you teach a child to ride a horse, they learn they are the center of their environment,” said Kelly.“Once they make that connection, they can change what happens in school, at home and in the community.”A.Because his mother couldn’t afford the fees.B.Because his parents got divorced.C.Because he behaved badly at school.D.Because he didn’t set a life goal.解析:选 C 细节理解题。

Without him, these relationships wouldn’t havehappened.Philip is bright, friendly, and inspiring. Sometimes his ideas pay off in a huge way. He is very successful. B卷能力素养提升【说明】本试卷满分120分,考试时间100分钟Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AI sat with a friend a few weeks ago as she scrolled through photos of her college freshman daughter on her phone. She asked me, “Doesn’t she look happy? She looks OK, right?” Her daughter had recently had a difficult time, which was now over, but her mother — like all mothers would — still worried, sometimes, that something might be wrong. For generations of parents, sending children off to college meant knowing little to nothing about how their children were doing. Other than the occasional letter or call from a dorm room phone, children who had left home were mostly unseen and heard from infrequently. College kids could get into all kinds of trouble and their parents would know nothing about it until Christmas vacation or summer break. Now, of course, that’s not at all how it is. Parents of college students can spend hour upon hour examining photos on Instagram or Facebook of their children. They look for hints of sadness in their eyes, the way their clothes fit, whether they’re really smiling or just sort of smiling. However, I don’t think it’s necessary. College is a time of intense personal growth. Pain is a necessary lesson for the emotional leap from childhood toadulthood. Mothers shouldn’t be able to see photos in real time that capture their children when they’re at their worst — whether because of too much alcohol or too little happiness. The blessing of social media is the ability to connect at any time with your child, no matter where he or she may be in the world. Facebook, Instagram and the rest are keeping our helicopters flying long after they should have landed. Maybe it would be better for all of us to be a little less aware of the state of our children’s lives once they leave home. Better for the children, and certainly better for the parents.错误!1.That friend scrolled through photos on her phone most probably because she ________.A.was bored and wanted to kill the timeB.wanted to make sure her daughter was alrightC.wanted to help her daughter through the difficultyD.was sure something was wrong with her daughter解析:选B 推理判断题。

She looks OK, right?” Her daughter had recently had a difficult time, which was now over, but her mother —like all mothers would —still worried, sometimes, that something might be wrong. Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
After spending 13 years raising three boys, Stephanie Connolly wanted to get back into the workforce, but she was worried that her computer skills were obsolete. Not only was the long employment break a concern, but she had never used Microsoft Office programs. Her last employer had only used WordPerfect.
A year later, Connolly is so skilled in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that she is helping others, and has just completed a fixed amount of work as a teaching assistant in a computer class. She’s also on the job hunt, armed with a new resume (简历), interview skills, and the latest knowledge of how to conduct Internet job searches, fill out Webbased applications, and upload resumes.
“I can walk through the doors of the company and feel very confident. The course instructors have given that to me,” said Connolly, who owed her development to classes offered by the Harvard Allston Workforce Development Collaboration (HAWDC).The collaboration is part of a series of programs, and neighborhood improvements that began with an agreement reached between Harvard University and the city of Boston five years ago.
The agreement grew out of discussions between the University and the city over the construction of Harvard’s science Complex in Allston. Although the construction paused in 2009, the implementation (实施) of the
nonconstructionrelated aspects of the agreement has continued.
What has meant to the neighbors is the opening of the Harvard Allston Education Portal, a communitycentered education facility that serves as Harvard’s front door to the neighborhood and access to certain University programs and facilities. Information about the agreement’s benefits to the community, as well as about Harvard’s deep ties with Cambridge and Boston, is available on the new communityoriented Public Affairs website.
