它由上海教育出版社和牛津大学出版社按照国家教育部颁布的《全日制义务教育英语课程标准》主持编写,由上海教育出版社出版,于2001、2002年通过全国中小学教材审定委员会审查通过。

编写组总结10年来教材使用经验,根据国内英语教学实际进行全套修订,其中三年级和七年级已经于2012年3月复审通过,其余年级在2013年3月复审通过。

“此套教材从设计理念,内容的选择和教学方式等方面都较好地贯彻了《义务教育英语课程标准》(2011)的精神,符合课标的规定和要求。
