As one of the first cable producers, nkt cables supplied 20kV submarine cables to offshore installations with integrated optical fibres for additional communication and transmission of process data. The latest development is the new NKT monitoring system with RTTR software „ADAP PRO“ (Real Time Thermal Rating), based on optical fibres in power cables. This system enables our customers to optimize the performance of their high voltage transmission systems – both, on and offshore.

More about the Middelgrunden Project (Denmark):
In December 1999 nkt cables was awarded the contract of linking the world’s largest offshore wind farm with the existing electricity grid. The order included 12 km three core 36 kV XLPE submarine cable, transformers and switchgear. The installation was completed in 2001. It consists of two submarine cables from the main connection of the farm to Amager Power Station and a 5 km long cable for the interconnection of 20 windturbines (cluster cables). Fibre optic cable is integrated in the submarine cable to secure communication and control of the turbines.
