The License Manager will allocate licenses on a floating usage basis, up to the number of licenses that have been programmed into it. This allows centralized management of both the number of licenses and of the software maintenance date that controls what versions of Eagle Test software are allowed to run.With the ETS License Manager, there is no longer a need for the standard Security Key that normally goes on the parallel port of the computers running Eagle Test Systems software. As long as the client computers are connected to the network, they will be able to obtain a license from the ETS License Manager. If the client computer is disconnected from the network – for example, a laptop that is taken out of the office – the parallel port Security Key would be needed to run Eagle Test Systems software.Windows NT is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.The ETS License Manager2InstallationThe ETS License Manager is meant to be installed on a computer running Microsoft Windows NT™ 4.0 Server with Service Pack 4 or greater. It can be installed on a Windows NT™ 4.0 Workstation computer, but Microsoft limits the Workstation version to 10 concurrent connections. If the ETS License Manager will be serving more than 10 clients, it should be installed on NT™ Server. The computer also has tohave the TCP/IP network protocol installed. There can only be one ETS License Manager running oneach network subnet. If installed on a second computer, the License Manager will not start, and it willdisplay an error message indicating which server computer is already running the License Manager.To install the ETS License Manager, put the installation CD in the drive and allow the autorun to start. If the CD doesn’t autorun, use Windows Explorer to browse to the CD-ROM drive and runSETUP.EXE. Once the installation program begins, the welcome screen will appear as shown inFigure2; or, if the computer is already running the ETS License Manager, the warning message shown in Figure1will appear. When upgrading or reinstalling the software, the License Manager service has to be temporarily stopped. While the service is stopped, any clients attempting to use the License Manager will fail to obtain a license, so this should be done only during off hours when stopping the service will notaffect any client computers.If you select the NO button here, the installation will exit without stopping the License Manager service. If you select the YES button, the existing License Manager service will be stopped and the installation will continue with the welcome screen as shown in Figure 2.Click Next to continue to the User Information screen, which is shown in Figure 3on the following page.The ETS License ManagerFigure 2- Installation Welcome ScreenEnter in the appropriate information and click Next to continue. After a confirmation screen, the necessary files will be installed to the computer ’s \WINNT directory. After the files are copied, the install program will attempt to start the License Manager service. If the service starts successfully, the next screen (Figure 4on the following page) will prompt the user to setup the licenses.The ETS License ManagerFigure 3- The User Information ScreenConfiguring the licenses is covered in the next section. It can either be done at this point in the installation, or it can be done anytime later from the Control Panel. Clicking either button here will finish installing the ETS License Manager.The ETS License ManagerFigure 4- Prompt to Configure License3Configuration of LicensesAfter the ETS License Manager is installed, it must be configured with a valid number of licenses in order for it to be operational. To configure the number of licenses, you must log in as an administrator, then open up the Control Panel. Double-click on the icon titled “ETS License Manager” as shown in Figure 5.Double-clicking the "ETS License Manager" icon brings up the ETS License Manager window,which is a paged dialog window. The first page shows the current status of the license manager. The second page lets you configure the number of licenses and the Software Maintenance date. This second page is shown in Figure 6on the following page.The ETS License ManagerFigure 5- License Manager Icon in Control PanelThe first step in configuring the License Manager is to hit the Generate Key button on the License Generation page shown above. This will display a Key Number that is necessary to obtain the licenses and maintenance date. You need to contact Eagle Test System ’s support at 847-367-8282, or e-mail support@, to obtain the PIN for this Key. In order to obtain the PIN, you need to supply Eagle Test support with the Key Number, the number of licenses purchased, and the software maintenance expiration date.IMPORTANT! Do not hit the “Generate Key” button again after sending this information to Eagle Test Systems. Hitting the button again would generate a different Key Number, making the previous Key Number invalid.Eagle Test support will verify the number of licenses and the software maintenance date, and return the proper PIN number. After receiving the PIN number, enter it into the PIN field and hit the SubmitPIN button. If it is a valid PIN number, a verification prompt will appear as shown in Figure 7.If the information is correct, hit the Yes button to accept them. The License Status will be updated to display the new values and the ETS License Manager will be operational.Figure 6- License Generation PageFigure 7- PIN Number VerificationThe Software Maintenance Date field displays the date that your software maintenance agreement contract with Eagle Test System expires. This is NOT an expiration date after which the software will not run. It is a date that will be compared against the build date of the client computer’s Eagle Test software to determine if the software should run. For example, ETS software version 3.01 has a build date of8/09/2000. If the Software Maintenance Date on the License Manager is 12/30/2000, then this software will run and will continue to run even after 12/30/2000. But if a computer running ETS software version 3.02, which has a build date of 02/09/2001, attempts to get a license from this License Manager, it will fail. Contact Eagle Test Systems for information on obtaining or renewing a Software Maintenance Agreement.The last input field on the License Generation screen is the “Reserve Online Licenses” box. You can enter a number in this field to specify how many licenses to reserve for Online Tester usage. In the example shown in Figure 6, there are 40 total licenses available, and 10 of these have been reserved for tester use. This means that there will always be10 online testers on the network that are guaranteed to obtain a license. Conversely, if there were 30 offline stations using licenses, then the 31st offline station would fail to get a license. This field should usually be filled in with the number of online testers on the network to ensure that the testers will always get a license.After the ETS License Manager has been configured, the Status page of the License Manager dialog will show the current settings as shown in Figure8.Figure8- License Manager StatusThe License Manager Status dialog box displays the name of the computer that is currently acting as the License Manager and allows an administrator to start and stop the License Manager.IMPORTANT! If you stop the ETS License Manager service, any client computers requesting a license will be denied; however, stopping the License Manager may not interrupt a running tester, as the test may be at a point where it will not request or verify it’s license.The License Status screen displays all the computers on a network that currently have licenses checked out. The "Computer Name" that is displayed is the same computer name that is entered into Windows NT’s Network dialog in the Control Panel. The License Status screen also shows the revision of ETS software that each computer is running (whether the computer is an offline station or an online tester), and the date and time the license was checked out.The License Status screen also has a Revoke License button, which can be used to release the license of the currently highlighted computer. This feature is meant to be used in situations where the tester computer has aborted abnormally without properly releasing its license – for example, if Windows NT™crashes due to a hardware or software failure.4Installation of ETS Client SoftwareOnce the ETS License Manager has been installed and configured on a server computer, ETS 's System Software can be installed on the client computers. The client computers can either be computers connected to an actual Eagle tester, or they can be any computer running offline Eagle Test software.The ETS software must be revision 3.02 or greater to work with the ETS License Manager.To install the ETS software, insert the installation CD in the drive and allow the autorun to start. If the CD doesn't autorun, use Windows Explorer to browse to the CD-Rom drive and run SETUP.EXE.The installation will attempt to locate a valid license from either a dongle security key plugged into the parallel port or from the ETS License Manager. If the dongle security key is detected, the installation will use the license programmed into the key. Otherwise, the installation program will send out an IP broadcast to locate the ETS License Manager. If the License Manager server computer is on the same subnet, it will respond appropriately and the client installation will continue. If the License Manager server computer is on a different routed subnet, the IP broadcast will fail, and the installation will display the warning screen shown in Figure 9.If you know the network name of the computer running the ETS License Manager, hit the YES button to continue to the next screen (shown in Figure 10on the following page). Otherwise, hit the NO button to exit the installation program.Figure 9- Warning Message - License Manager Not FoundEnter in the appropriate ETS License Manager computer name and click Next to continue. Theinstallation program will attempt to communicate with the server computer and verify the license. If this is successful, the installation program will continue normally. If the server computer cannot be found, the screen shown in Figure 9will be displayed again and another server computer name can be tried. Once the ETS License Manager has been located, the client software will remember the server name for future license verification.Figure 10- Enter License Manager Server Computer Name5Viewing License Manager Status on Non-Server Computers It is possible to view the status of the ETS License Manager from any computer on the network. To do this, just install the License Manager software on the desired computer as explained earlier. After the files have been installed on the computer, and the installation tries to start the License Manager service, a warning message will appear as shown in Figure 11.This warning message indicates which computer on the network is already running the License Manager service, as there can only be one License Manager per network subnet. Just hit OK to get past this warning and finish the installation. The computer will now have the ETS License Manager icon in the Control Panel. The ETS License Manager icon can be used to view the status of the actual License Manager server computer. There will be a number of buttons greyed out - these functions can only be performed on the License Manager server computer.Figure 11- Warning Message Indicating that Service Cannot be Started。

当前,在产品设计过程中,需要用到很机械(MDA)和电子(EDA)设计和分析相关的大型应用软件,如Pro/E、nastran、pantran、cadence、synopsys、ansys、fluent、unigraph等。
而这些大型工程软件需要安装许可证才能使用,为了满足不断增长的设计需求,软件许可证的数量也要不断的增多。
对于目前的应用软件,一些大型企业现有的许可证管理模式和使用模式与行政管理体系想对应,即大部分已经存在于各个下级公司,由各个下级子公司分别对本公司的许可证进行管理和使用,部分子公司已经开始在本部门内进行软件的网络浮动使用,但在公司之间软件部能充分共享。
同时也造成部分公司内软件使用效率偏低,同时其他子公司需求迫切却又无软件可以,还需要重复购置的现象。
有些企业通过统一采购、免费升级的方式可以获得位于各个子公司的软件许可证的共享使用方式;同时全新采购的此类软件将不再下发到各个子公司,而采用许可证服务器集中存放、统一管理、网络浮动的方式共享给下属各个公司使用。
通过以上现状可以发现,目前这些大型企业的许可证分布现状是一种既集中又分布的混合结构。
对于这种混合结构,如何更好的管理这些许可证,更高效、更合理的使用这些许可证,是很多企业单位的信息管理部门所面临的一项迫切的任务。

Managing an MSD license on a Wibu CodeMeter keyTo update a license on your Wibu CodeMeter key, you need to create a License Request file(.WibuCmRaC) with the content of your key (we also refer sometimes to such a file as a Context File), and e-mail that file to us at *********************.We can use that License Request file to create a License Update file (.WibuCmRaU) which you can then use to update your key (put the new license on the Wibu CodeMeter key).If a recent version of MSD is instaIled, you can do this using the MSD Manage License tool.If you have the tool, go to Section 1A if you want to create a License Request file, or to Section 1B to use a License Update file to update the license on your key.If you have an older version of MSD which does not have the MSD Manage License tool (and you do not want to install the latest version of MSD now) or if you do not have MSD installed at all, you can continue to Section 2 for an alternative procedure, where you can create a License Request file in Section 2A or go to Section 2B to use a License Update file to update the license on your key.Section 1A – Creating a License Request file (.WibuCmRaC).Please start the MSD Manage License tool.(It is located in the 'MyShowDesigner 6 Pro' or 'MyShowDesigner 6 Lite' program group in the Start Menu.)You will get something like this:When the program opens it will start to scan for Wibu CodeMeter keys and will read the licenses on the keys it finds. This scanning can take a while to complete, so please wait until it is finished. For upgrading afactory to the new version of the SIPLACE License Manager please read chapter “Update and Migration”Note: SIPLACE License Manager is a prerequisite for all SIPLACE Software componentswhich need a license. Therefore the SIPLACE License Manager must be installed prior toany other SIPLACE Software.1.3 Content of SIPLACE License ManagerSIPLACE License Manager contains a setup, which can install the licensing infrastructure either as alicensing server as well as a licensing client which is gathering the licenses from that licensing server and performs some functionality such as caching in case of unavailability of the license server. Either thelicensing server or the licensing client has to be installed on one machine to operate licensed SIPLACE Software.1.4 Scope of DeliveryThe License Manager 2.2 software package contains the following software and documentation and is part of the Support Media 1.8 and higher:→License Manager 2.2 setup→Installation manual for the License Manager 2.2→Note: The Support Media contains also the older versions of the SIPLACE LicenseManager. These are for compatibility reasons. It is highly recommended to use always thelatest version in the whole factory for the server and client installations.1.5 General InformationThis installation manual describes how to install and configure the License Manager server and theLicense Manager client. The server will store the license keys and perform the checks; the client enables to perform licensing check on every computer in the network.1.6 Requirements for SIPLACE License Manager InstallationThe requirements are the same for the SIPLACE License Manager Server or Client installation. Following operating systems are supported:→Windows XP SP1 or higher→Windows Server 2003 SP1 or higher or→Windows Vista SP1 or higher or→Windows Server 2008 or higher or→Windows 7 or higher or→Windows Server 2008 R2→.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or higher→The SIPLACE License Manager runs on the following minimum hardware configuration:→Intel® Pentium® D 2.80 GHz processor→512 MB main memory→20 MB free hard disk space→Network connection1.7 New FunctionalityThe License Manager 2.2 introduces the feature of the emergency mode. This enables the customer to operate the SIPLACE Lines for some time, even if the licenses are not available.2 Emergency Mode2.1 Offline functionalityWhen the SIPLACE License Client is offline, then the actual valid licenses are cached and will be valid to application for 14 days. This means all licensed features are operational even when the SIPLACE License Server can not be reached.Offline means the SIPLACE License Client and therefore the licensed application can not communicate with the SIPLACE License Server. This can be an interrupted network connection or a not running SIPLACE License Service (due to a shutdown of the hosting computer for example).Note: The offline mode will not issue new licenses which have not been active on thiscomputer.2.2 Emergency mode functionalityThe emergency mode is a mode in the License Manager Client component to provide valid licenses even when the SIPLACE License Server can not grant a valid license. This will happen under certain preconditions. These are•The requested license was issued on this client computer in the last 6 Months. So it has been valid at some time in the past. This is also true for the floating licenses.•The so called emergency license is valid for 14 days. It can be used in this period of time on this computer. For the floating licenses it is a period during which the number of the floating licenses is not counted on this computer.•After 14 days the emergency license will expire and become an expired emergency license. It is not possible to get an emergency license on this computer anymore until valid licenses can be issued from the License Server. The status will automatically be reset, when valid licenses can be issued from the SIPLACE License Server.2.3 Email escalationIf the email escalation was configured on the client an email will be sent from the license client when the SIPLACE Licensing Client is either in offline mode or in emergency mode.The following text shows the example of an email in case of an active emergency license mode.The SIPLACE License Client on computer (COMPUTERNAME) isOperating in emergency mode for the following licenses:LicenseString XYZ 000100 will expire at 2009/11/12 10:35:00LicenseString ABC 000100 will expire at 2009/11/12 10:35:00Attention: The licensed application / option will stop working after the license expires. Please contact the SIPLACE Service.Note: The escalation email has to be configured for this feature.2.4 Visualization in the task barThe icon in the task bar will visualize the mode in which the SIPLACE Licensing Client is operating.A green board in the icon is the normal mode indicating all licenses could be issued normally.A green board with red key in the icon is the normal mode indicating all licenses could be issued normally but some expired emergency licenses exist.A red board in the icon is the offline mode of the SIPLACE License Client. All currently cached licenses and emergency licenses can be used.A red board with a red key in the icon is the offline mode of the SIPLACE License Client. All currently cached licenses and emergency licenses can be used but some expired emergency licenses exist.A yellow board in the icon is the emergency mode of the SIPLACE License Client. At least one emergency license is active, even if a connection to the SIPLACE License Server is established.A yellow board with a red key in the icon is the emergency mode of the SIPLACE License Client. The SIPLACE License Server will be queried for anyincoming licensing request. So you can use licensed features protected by this license,when the server has a valid license. You can not use the features protected by this licensewhen it is not available on the server.2.5 Status DialogWhen the SIPLACE Licensing Client is operating either in offline mode or in emergency mode a status dialog will be displayed, which has to be acknowledged by the operator. The operator or administrator should take action to clarify the licensing issues.Note: If the offline mode or emergency mode will last longer than 14 days features will bedisabled which can cause that SIPLACE machines stop operations.The status dialog will be displayed after 60 Minutes the first time and then every 15 Minutes.The following picture shows the dialog when the SIPLACE License Client is in emergency mode2.6 Context MenuThe icon in the task bar has a context menu with following entries:•Open License Manager Î Will start the SIPLACE License Manager GUI• Show Status Î Displays the Status Dialog with the actual list of expired and normal emergency licenses.•Suppress Messages and Email Î Will stop displaying the status dialog for emergency licenses for 8 hours.• Create Error Report Î Will start the Error Report for the SIPLACE License Manager• Exit Î Exit the State Manager. When the State Manager is closed no check for the status can be performed.3 Plan the SIPLACE License Manager deploymentConfigurations3.1 Stand alone configurationFigure 1: Stand alone configuration and SIPLACE License ManagerIf you have one dedicated computer which is only supporting one line or a small number of linesoperating from one Line Control Server, the SIPLACE License Server will be installed only on this computer. In that configuration, no SIPLACE License Client has to be installed.3.2 Distributed ConfigurationIf you have several computers running SIPLACE Software, It is recommended to install the SIPLACE License Server centrally with the client application on all other computers with SIPLACE softwareproducts.Note: When you have a distributed SIPLACE Licensing configuration we recommend onecentral SIPLACE License Server for the whole site. It is not possible for applications toquery two or more SIPLACE License Servers for a valid license.3.2.1 Prepare the license server computerA computer with the following characteristics must be available before installing the License Server•The computer must have a network connection to all planned computers hosting a SIPLACE application.Note: When you have to move the SIPLACE License Server to another computer, youmust request the host bound license keys for the new computer.Note: SIPLACE License Server is using by default the network port number 1410. Pleaseensure that this port is free and not blocked by any firewall or router configuration.3.2.2 Distributed Configuration with central License ServerIn a distributed environment with a central license server, applications access the central server via theSIPLACE License Client. The SIPLACE License Portal isa web-based application that is available on the website.6.1.1 License Manager 2.2The License Manager administers all software licenses used with SIPLACE equipment in the customer’s production environment. It is installed on all server and client computers at the customer site.Æ You can start the SIPLACE License Manager via Start->Programs->SIPLACE Licensing->SIPLACE LicenseManager V2.xFigure 16: SIPLACE License Manager6.1.2 License Web-Portal (/license)The License Portal administers all purchased licenses and provides you an overview of your entire license portfolio. The data exchange between License Portal and License Manager is done with XML files.Figure 27: SIPLACE License Portal6.2 Certificate of License (COL)A Certificate of License (COL) is delivered with every SIPLACE software package. It contains the license number and the license code. Normally, this information is already stored in the SIPLACE License Portal. From the pull down menu select theproduct version. You will see a list of licenses that can be bound to licenseservers. Select the applicable license from the list.Æ With the link …Bind“ you will get to a new window that gives you the possibilityto choose a license server from an existing list; or to enter host data from a newlicense server by using an XML file (see chapter 9); or to manually input thelicense server.Æ The easiest way to transfer the host data of your SIPLACE License Manager server to the License Portal is to create an XML file.•Open the License Manager on your license server.•Go to the menu item “Tools/Host IDs/Save to file”•Copy the file to an USB Stick and upload it to the portalÆ The menu item …Create License“ generates the license file which must be copied to the license server. You can choose between:•Download the file and store it.•Send the file to your own Email address•Send the file to a discretionary Email address that you enter manually.Æ If you have to transfer more than one license you can create one license filethat includes all licenses. During the import the License Manager on licenseserver will only accept licenses which belong to its host ID, so you can move fromone server to the next with the same file.Æ The last step is to copy the license file to the SIPLACE License Manager. This can be done by using a USB stick or via an available network connection. Open the SIPLACE License Manager on your license server and choose the menu item “File/Import License Keys” (This requires account rights for FSE or the Administrator account). Search for the path to your XML file and click OK. If you don’t have the license as XML file but as text, you can enter the key manually with the menu item “File/Enter License Key”. If the license belongs to your license server it will appear in the list below.Figure 40: Import of a generated XML File into the SIPLACE License Managerwhere the licenses are completely lost. It can be used to recover the lost licenses, by justimporting them again.6.4 Create backup licensesThe menu option Create Backup licenses is used to supply backup licenses to a complete license server. It is assumed that a fault has occurred on the license server that makes it necessary toreplace parts of the server or the entire server without first being able to cancel the binding of thelicenses to this server hardware. When the hardware changes, the host ID changes as well, soany licenses already bound to the old server hardware will no longer be accepted.So backup licenses must be generated that can then be bound to the new server hardware.The procedure is as follows:•Replace the hardware and reinstall the computer, if necessary•Read the new host ID in License Manager.•Open the portal and select the Create Backup Licenses option.•Select the old host ID of the license server in the License Portal•Load the new host ID for the license server into the License Portal•Create the license file in the License Portal•Load the license file into License Manager on the new or changed server.7 Switching the License Server7.1 PurposeThe purpose of the functionality is to switch the SIPLACE License Manager Server which serves one or more SIPLACE License Manager Clients.Note: You can switch a SIPLACE License Manager Client or SIPLACE License ManagerServer installation type to another computer with a SIPLACE License Manager ServerinstallationWith this option you can change the SIPLACE License Manager Server when the current instance is not operational anymore. After that the SIPLACE Licensing Client is requesting the licenses from the new defined SIPLACE Licensing server.Note: This procedure is only meaningful if you plan for a second SIPALCE LicenseManager Server or you have several SIPLACE License Managers installed in the factory.If you want to install a backup server please follow the normal installation procedure onanother computer.7.2 Changing the SIPLACE License Manager connection on the Client Æ Start the SIPLACE License Manager 2.x from the client PC. You can find it under Start->All Programs->SIPLACE Licensing->SIPLACE License Manager V2.xÆ Select the menu item “Tools->Administration->Change Server” (You will be requested for an FSE or Administrator account)Figure 25: Selecting the “Change Server” menu itemÆ You can enter the name of the new SIPLACE License Manager or browse on the network for the computer name.Æ Press OK•Figure 26: Changing the ServerAfter that procedure, the SIPLACE License Manager Client will obtain the licenses from the new configured Licensing Server. To continue with licensed features, the SIPLACE License Manager server has to be up and running.8 Update and migrationBasically, follow the same procedure as for initial installation when making an update. Please refer to chapter 4 in this regard.If you are updating the License Manager Client to Version 2.x, you need to uninstall any previous versions of the License Manager Version 1.x or 2.x. The new version of the License Manager Client replaces completely any previous versions. You will be able to manage the licenses intended for the previous versions of the License Manager with the new License Manager Client.Figure 27: Migration scenario for SIPLACE Pro 5.xFigure 5: Overview over LM deploymentIt is highly recommended to upgrade the LM 1.x Version in a factory with the LM 2.x Version. During the upgrade the following rules apply.•First you should install the SIPLACE License Manager Server. Please ensure that the required 1.x licenses are imported in the License Server 2.x, when it is not the same computer.•The SIPLACE License Manager 1.x is still operating and running and is required as long as you have still LM 1.x Clients running. The GUI and the shortcuts will be replaced by the new LM 2.xGUI and shortcuts.•If you install the SIPLACE License Manager 2.x as a Client, the SIPLACE License Manager 1.x Client will be de-installed.•It is highly recommended to de-install the SIPLACE License Manager 1.x Server, when youupgraded the whole factory to the SIPLACE License Manager Client 2.x.License Manager 2.x installed.9 Troubleshooting9.1 License Manager 2.x can not start.SymptomLicense Manager 2.x can not start.ReasonThe License Manager is using port 1410. The following are key benefits of network licensing:•Asset ManagementWith workstation (node) locked licensing your software assets are distributedacross your organization making them challenging to track. With networklicensing, software assets can be resolved back to your license manager(s).•Contract ComplianceUsage data can be recorded that will document compliance.•Visibility into UtilizationReports can be run to analyze historical usage, even across multiple servers.•Economy of useNot everyone in your organization is likely to be an 8 hour a day production userof the software installed on their computer. Network licensing allows multipleusers to share a license so long as only one person is using it at the same time.Autodesk Network Licensing is based upon technology supplied by Flexera Software called FLEXnet Licensing. FLEXnet Licensing includes components software developers integrate into their applications and components that are installed on a server to act as a license manager. As implemented by Autodesk this licensing system allows Autodesk customers install the network licensed version of its products on as many workstations as desired regardless of how many network seats they have purchased. When an application is started it contacts the license manager and requests a license. The license manager will only grant licenses up to the number the customer has purchased. The license manager software is included on the distribution media and downloads of network licensable Autodesk software products. Please review your Autodesk license agreement in force to understand limitations where you can install and use Autodesk software products or contact your authorized Autodesk reseller.In order to facilitate consistent deployment and unattended installations a utility called the Deployment Wizard is included on the program media that allows administrators to create Deployment images. These deployment images include all installation options prepopulated and can be created to allow interactive or silent, unattended installs. These deployments may be used to install an Autodesk product by simply running a shortcut or administrators can automate software delivery using Group Policies, Microsoft SCCM or other software delivery automation infrastructure in place.The Autodesk network licensing system also provides access to an historical usage report generation tool called SAMReport-Lite via download. This tool is available at no additional cost to Autodesk customers holding network licenses. SAMReport-Lite reports on Autodesk license usage only, it will not report on other FLEXnet licensed software. Flexera offers a more advanced reporting and management product called FLEXnet Manager. FLEXnet Manager is available for purchase from Flexera and may be licensed to report on Autodesk license usage as well as software from other FLEXnet publishers. Each year we strive to detail specific aspects based on what’s new and the questions we receive over the year. This software will be installed on workstations at the end of the deployment install process.If you use Group Policies or manual methods of installing deployment images to workstations this new capability may save you lots of time. You can install your utilities and third party software without making secondary trips to the computer. This new capability may be of little interest to you if your company automates software delivery using SCCM, Altiris or similar systems that allow you to chain multiple installations in specific order as most such systems offer greater flexibility.A great use of this capability is specifying port usage for the license manager. The deployment wizard does not allow you to specify the port used to contact the license manager master daemon. Port callouts can reduce startup time and are required if the license manager is setup to use ports outside of the default 27000-27009 range. In the example included above, setx.exe from the Windows\System32 folder was used with parameters to set theADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE environment variable to include port callouts. Setx.exe does not work on all versions of Windows so if you have an mixed operating system environment using setx.exe is not recommended. Consider creating an MSI package that will reset the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE environment variable.You can only point to and execute .exe and .msi files. This limits you from using .bat or other script based utilities that you may have developed in house. It also limits you from directly calling internal Operating System commands. Consider investing in an MSI packaging solution that will allow you to package your script routines into MSI’s.Creating and Managing the Options FileThe Options File is a text file that an administrator creates and maintains that drives license manager behavior and access control. The license manager installation and setup process does not generate an options file; it must be manually created post install and setup.No matter how few licenses you have or how simple your license management needs are you should be using an options file to at least release inactive application sessions. Sessions canbecome inactive if a user is not using the software open on their desktop. The software will not go inactive if a background process is in progress. Another cause of inactive sessions are ungracefully disconnected sessions such as network interruption, crashes, etc. If a session becomes inactive in this way it will tie up that seat indefinitely unless a timeout value is set. If a session license is returned to the license manager due to inactivity at the workstation the software continues to run on the workstation until activity is detected. At this point a single attempt is made to get the license back. If a license is available on the license manager it is granted to that workstation and the software continues to run without messaging the user. If all seats of a license are in use the user will be messaged that the license has been lost. If there is unsaved work the user will be given an opportunity to save their work before exiting. While you can set a specific timeout value for each product it is most common to set a global timeout which will apply to all Autodesk software managed by a particular license manager.You may also want to consider managing license borrowing parameters in your options file. Unmanaged, most Autodesk licenses may be borrowed by any user for up to six months. Since there is no way to administratively recall a borrowed license it is important to manage this feature proactively! You can control how long licenses may be borrowed and/or who can borrow or turn off borrowing altogether. To turn off borrowing for a product create a group containing only a nonexistent user then restrict borrowing to only that group usingINCLUDE_BORROW. If you later have a need to allow select users to borrow, just add them to that group. Borrowing controls must be done on a per product basis; there are no global borrowing settings. If you have suite and/or subscription licenses you can apply settings to the suite/subscription license or to the individual package components. If you apply borrow term limits to a high level suite/subscription license the borrow user interface on workstations will not reflect the new limits but the user will not be able to borrow past the limits set in the options file. If the limits are applied to each individual package component then the workstation will reflect the options file limits.If you will be using SAMReport-Lite to produce historical usage reports then you will need to turn on report logging. Report logs differ from the debug log file in that it contains more detailed usage data and stores it in binary format. The only way to enable this logging is in the options file.You can also control general access to licenses by user, machine, groups of machines or users and IP address range. User and machine groups are created in the options file. There is no direct link between the operating system databases (Active Directory) and options file groups. In order to use an operating system group you would have to export the data to a text string and import it into the options file. The most commonly used access controls used are INCLUDE, EXCLUDE and RESERVE. If you create an INCLUDE setting for a license only the users or machines included will be able to use that license. With EXCLUDE you specify users or machines that will not have access to a particular license. You can RESERVE a portion of a license seat count for a group of users giving that group exclusive access to that portion of seats. If you are managing user or machine groups in an options file it is stronglyrecommended that you set GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE to ON (default is off). This is because Windows logon and machine names are not case sensitive but exact typed logon and machine case is sent to the license manager for evaluation.There are many other possible options file settings. Options file syntax is documented in detail in the “LicenseAdministration.pdf” file located in the folder where you installed the license manager. Options file syntax is case sensitive and at times complex. Remember to view to license manager debug log file after implementing options file changes to assure desired behavior!To create an options file use Notepad to create the desired option lines then save it as ADSKFLEX.OPT in the same folder where you placed the license file.A common misconception is that you need to stop-start the license manager to implement edits to the options file. Doing a license reread will also implement any changes made to the options file. There are two types of OSEs, physical and virtual. A physical hardware system can have one physical OSE and/or one or more virtual OSEs.Physical core: Each physical processor contains smaller processing units called physical cores. Some processors have two cores, some four, some six or eight, and so on.Physical OSE: An OSE that is configured to run directly on a physical hardware system. The operating system instance used to run hardware virtualization software (for example, Microsoft Hyper-V Server or similar technologies) or to provide hardware virtualization services (for example, Microsoft virtualization technology or similar technologies) is considered part of the physical OSE.Physical processor: A processor in a physical hardware system. For licensing purposes, a virtual processor is considered to have the same number of threads and cores as each physical processor on the underlying physical hardware system.Introduction to Per Core LicensingWith the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Microsoft server licensing shifted the measure of computing power from physical processors to cores. Core-based licensing provides a more precise measure of computing power and a more consistent licensing metric, regardless of whether solutions are deployed on physical servers on-premises, or in virtual or cloud environments. Core-based licensing enables multi-cloud environments, improving workload portability and helping remove friction across different licensing models, making it easier for customers to migrate to the cloud at their own pace.Today, there are primarily three licensing models that apply Per Core licensing:1.The Per Core model used by SQL Server and BizTalk Server2.The Per Core/CAL licensing model used by Windows Server (Standard and Datacenter edition) following the release ofWindows Server 20163.The Management Servers (core-based) licensing model used by System Center (Standard and Datacenter edition) following therelease of System Center 2016.SQL ServerUnder the Per Core licensing model, each server running SQL Server 2016 software or any of its components (such as Reporting Services or Integration Services) must be assigned an appropriate number of SQL Server 2016 core licenses. The number of core licenses needed depends on whether customers are licensing the physical server or individual virtual operating system environments (OSEs).Unlike the Server+CAL licensing model, the Per Core model allows access for an unlimited number of users or devices to connect from either inside or outside an organization’s firewall. With the Per Core model, customers do not need to purchase additional cl ient access licenses (CALs) to access the SQL Server software.The Per Core licensing model is appropriate when:•Deploying the SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Edition (including using the SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse deployment option) or SQL Server 2016 Web Edition software.•Deploying Internet or extranet workloads, systems that integrate with external-facing workloads (even if external data goes through one or more other systems), or when the number of users/devices cannot be counted easily.•Implementing centralized deployments that span a large number of direct and/or indirect users/devices.•The total licensing costs for licensing SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition software are lower than those incurred using the Server+CAL licensing model.Note: The use of hyper-threading technology does not affect the number of core licenses required when running SQL Server software in a physical OSE.You must have the appropriate number of core licenses for the server. You have two licensing options:1. Physical cores on a server2. Individual virtual operating system environmentLicensing by physical cores on a serverWhen running SQL Server in a physical OSE, all physical cores on the server must be licensed. Software partitioning does not reduce the number of core licenses required, except when licensing individual virtual machines (VMs). A minimum of four core licenses are required for each physical processor on the server.To determine and acquire the correct number of core licenses needed, customers must:The SQL Server Core Factor Table is no longer used to calculate the required number of core licenses needed for SQL Server 2016 and later versions. For earlier versions of SQL Server, the number of licenses required equals the number of physical cores on the server multiplied by the applicable core factor located in the SQL Server Core Factor Table (PDF, 304 KB). With the Enterprise Edition, for each server to which you have assigned the required number of licenses, you can run on the licensed server any number of instances of the server software in a number of physical and/or virtual OSEs equal to the number of licenses assigned to that server. Thereafter, for each additional license that you assign to the licensed server, you can run instances of the server software in an additional OSE on that licensed server.With the Standard Edition, for each server to which you have assigned the required number of licenses, you can run on the licensed server any number of instances of the server software in the physical OSE.Per core—physical cores on a server. For licensing purposes, a v-core maps to a hardware thread.Note: Licensing individual VMs is the only licensing option available for SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition customers who are running the software in a virtualized environment under the Per Core model.For customers with highly virtualized environments who want to move VMs dynamically across servers to reallocate resources as needed, Microsoft permits License Mobility as an exclusive SA benefit available for all SQL Server editions.BizTalk Server④Effective with the 2013 software release, BizTalk Server (BTS) is licensed under the same Per Core model as SQL Server. Thismodel provides a precise measurement of computing power and a consistent licensing metric, regardless of whether your BTS solution is deployed across servers on-premises, virtually or physically, or cloud environments under License Mobility withSoftware Assurance. In its natural state, it contains none of the Miller Service Pak, File Manager or WaveWriter software. When you purchase the Axcess File Manger (Stock Number 300529) or Axcess Wavewriter (Stock Number 300590) for PC it contains a 6-ft. USB-A to RS232 Serial Cable and a pre-configured P alm emulator S ession F ile (PSF). The PSF contains the Miller Service Pak and File Manager software information. It is also pre-configured for Hot Sync on your PC using Palm desktop software. You need to Hot Sync your POSE only if you want to save an individual waveform to send it individually in an email. The POSE and associated PSF files are protected under Miller Electric software license agreement.Illegal copying or distribution is subject to prosecution.It is vitally important to follow each step in order to ensure the USB port is assigned properly.
