Ode to the West Wind" by Percy Bysshe Shelley is one of my favorite poems, and the line "If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?" always reminds me of another poem by Shelley called "Mutability." In "Mutability," Shelley writes about the concept of impermanence, or the idea that everything in life is constantly changing and nothing is permanent. This theme is also present in "Ode to the West Wind," as Shelley uses the imagery of the wind to represent the power of change and transformation. The phrase "If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?" is particularly powerful because it suggests that even in the darkest and coldest of times, there is always hope for renewal and growth. This sentiment is echoed in many other poems and sayings, such as "After the rain comes the sunshine" and "It's always darkest before the dawn." It's a reminder that even when things seem bleak and hopeless, there is always the possibility for things to get better.

Faced with the power of time, every perfect thing would become imperfect, time is so strong that can ruin everything.Thirdly, this poem demonstrates that only time is perpetual, everything including power, artistic beauty even human beings, as time goes by will all be gone.Time is so powerful that it destroys everyone’s brilliant victories. But eventually, no one will escape the fate.No one has the capacity to transcend time.As the proverb goes: There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. There are just three of the ambiguous themes that I have came up with.As for other themes, I do think that Ozymandias likes a highlight, throw off many different aspects which give readers space of imagination to fill in the gap.Reading some reference materials, I realized that Ozymandias was a Greek name for the Egyptian king Ramesses II(1304-1237 BC.)Records the inscription on the pedestal of his statue(at the Ramesseum, on the other side of Nile river from Luxor)as “King of kings am I, Ozymandias. If anyone would know how great I am and where I lie, let him surpass one of my works”.Horace Smith onc e also wrote a poem describing Ozymandias.Someone considered that they took the same subject, told the same story, even made the same moral point. But from my own perspective, Shelley’s sonnet is more refined than Smith’s.There were different voices appeared in Shelley’s poem. For instance, the king’s voice was high, representing he took charge of power;the sculptor said nothing but he may discern everything;the traveller told the narrator the whole story, and the narrator witnessed the story. To some degree, it's also a suggestive story of people facing an uncertain future, and of a country searching for a new sense of patriotic identity.

1. "Fate's cold finger points and shifts the scenes with consummate art" - James Russell Lowell你是否曾觉得,有些时候命运就像是一只冰冷的手指,随心所欲地改变一切,而我们却无能为力?
2. "Fate leads the willing, and drags along the reluctant." - Seneca
3. "Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved." - William Jennings Bryan
4. "Man is not the creature of circumstances, circumstances are the creaturesof men." - Benjamin Disraeli

Rains The weather is moody and rainy. No one knows when Jesus will come. The long rains have come and gone,A thousand acres are underwater. 《
The Roof Nail A hundred boats are still looking for shore. There is more in my hopes than I imagined. The tiny roof nail lies on the ground, aching for the roof. Some little bone in our foot is longing for heaven.
The Slim Fir Seeds The nimble ovenbird, the dignity of pears,The simplicity of oars, the imperishableEngines inside slim fir seeds, all of theseMake clear how much we want the impermanentTo be a permanent. We want the hermit wrenTo keep her eggs even during the storm. But that’s impossible. We are perishable;Friends, we are salty, impermanent kingdoms.

Mutability 无常
Percy Bysshe Shelley
The flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow dies;
All that we wish to stay
Tempts and then flies.
What is this world’s delight?
Lightning that mocks the night,
Brief even as bright.
明天就会枯萎;
Virtue, how frail it is!
Friendship how rare!
Love, how it sells poor bliss
For proud despair!
But we, though soon they fall,
Survive their joy, and all
Which ours we call.
Whilst skies are blue and bright, Whilst flowers are gay,
Whilst eyes that change ere night Make glad the day;
Whilst yet the calm hours creep, Dream thou–and from thy sleep Then wake to weep.
还没临到夜晚;
