In most films, if two lovers want to break an arranged marriage, they can't just run away. With about 14 shops down every day, Britain’s high streets are dying little by little.2 It’s fairly easy to understand. To start with, people are spending less because of the economic recessi on(衰退). On top of that, more and more people are using the Internet to do their shopping. And it is not easy for shopkeepers in the high streets, either.3 Finally, there are the out-of-town retail parks with free car parking that sell just about everything at very low prices. What can be done? Prime Minister David Cameron has hired Mary Portas, a British business woman and star of TV show Mary Queen of Shops, to bring some life back into Britain’s high streets. She's talked about creating “magnets(磁石)” to attract people back to the centre. 4 In one town, a bicycle rickshaw(人力车) service is delivering people's shopping to their homes. 5 , where children can be cared for while parents are shopping.Members of the public have also voiced their opinions. “My ideal shopping center is one where there’s a wide selection of attractive looking shops, with cheap parking and good public transport links,” said a 28-year-old man. “I’d like to see Night Shopping evenings where shops are open through to 10 pm or later,” said a 22-year-old girl.A. When all of the research has been completed and all of the sentences are structured well, but the paper still lacks some pizzazz(活力),it can be boring to grade. If you are searching for ways to help your students find their voices, why not try making students themselves the topic of the writing? 1Who are you?One of the most difficult questions for students to answer is: “Who are you?” 2 In doing this, through writing, students will start to see their personalities differently and, hopefully, be able to add a feature to their writing.Dear John3Encourage them to write to a famous person they’ve always admired, and then the one they absolutely hate. Explore how their language changes between the two letters. When students know their audiences, it is much easier for them to add the kind of personality their audience wants to see.4When students write about what matters most to them, they will often give you the best writing you’ve ever seen. You’ll get those when you ask questions that hit home. When students have something to say about a given topic, it can be easier for them to get their ideas down and then work on their writing style.Get the words on paper, and then edit themThe most valuable lesson students can learn is to write first, and edit later. Have students written for five minutes about their topics. If they can get their ideas down on paper, that’s 90% of the battle. 5 This can help them realize that, once they have the ideas down, the rest is just fine tuning(微调). Once they have this skill mastered, it’s easy for them to start adding their own personal voices to their papers.A.What matters to you?B. What style is taught in class?C. When they write about themselves, students’ voices often shine through.D. Writing letters is a great way for students to explore their writing style.E. Changing your sleeping time by more than an hour can severely disturb your sleep quality. 1 For example,if you normally wake up at 6 am on weekdays to get to work, you might go to bed around 10 pm,because that’s when you start to feel sleepy, and it’s also a good time to ensure 8 hours of sleep. If,on the weekend, you sleep until 9 a.m,you probably won’t be able to fall asleep that night until 1 a.m.2. 2 Wait at least three hours after dinner before going to sleep. Digestion slows down while asleep, and a full stomach may interrupt sleep .Similarly, you should avoid going to bed on an empty stomach,as a completely empty stomach may equally disturb your sleeping patterns.3. 3 Exposure to light during the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping can disrupt your body’s internal clock. Turn your light off,or use a very dim night light. 4 They include windows,LED clocks, computer lights and cable boxes.4.Change your sleeping position. What should we expect from our leaders ? 1Yes, we do need leaders. On our own, we lack the vision, direction , and strength to reach our goals. We were all in need of guidance when we were children —— even the cleverest child could not possibly be expected to make certain crucial decisions. Once we become adults, with the capacity to reason for ourselves, we are facing so many pressures of daily survival that we rarely find time and energy to focus on life’s larger issues. And when we do, our emotions and subjectivity limit our vision and our movement.2 When we are occupied with our self-interest —— petty or great, a leader sends out a wake-up call, alerting us to seek the true priorities in life. With so many people trying to be leaders there days, how do we recognize a true leader ? To answer this question, we must step back and ask : 3A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders in their own right. Instead of trying to blind us with his or her brilliance, a true leader reflects our own light back to us, so that we can see ourselves anew. The differences between a leader and a boss : A boss drives their employees, and a leader coaches them. A boss inspires fear, and a leader generates enthusiasm. A boss says “I”, and a leader says “We”. A boss places blame for breakdowns, and a leader fixes them. 4Decide now. Decide today. Are you going to be a real leader ? Are you going to develop real leaders ? 5 Remember, a leader with vision has a clear, vivid picture of where to go, as well as a firm grasp on what success looks like and how to achieve it.A.A leader provides a new perspective, inspiring us to abandon our narrow field of vision.B.This sense of urgency is just as important in a leader as a sense of vision.C.And do we really need leaders in the first place ?D.Are you going to inspire and generate enthusiasm ?E.We have a CEO who can direct thousands of employees toward a single objective, and politicians who inspire millions of citizens to support them.F.What is it that a leader is really trying to accomplish ?G.A boss knows how it is done, and a leader shows how it is done. What is your favorite color? I had always described it as a once in a lifetime experience, but as soon as I stepped foot on the continent, I immediately knew I needed to return.____16____ About 50% of the passengers of our expedition (远征) had been to Antarctica at least once before. This goes to show just how magical of a destination it is.All your senses will be stimulated...is the best way I can describe the time on the white continent. How tiny you feel next to towering glaciers and icebergs. The icy water moving through your body as you take the infamous Polar Plunge. The learning of heart-touching stories of survival from explorers of the past. ____17____ Antarctica makes you feel so small and insignificant, in the best way. ____18____ You get front row seats to witness the most incredible show: nature. It is as much beautiful as is it cruel. Like seeing a brown skua (贼鸥) attacking a penguin chick. Your heart aches. Then your expedition guide regretfully tells you that a chick that is small in March would have very slim chances of surviving the upcoming winter. The cycle continues, and yo u’re left wondering who to root for.Things move fast in Antarctica, and every month offers something really unique and special to see. In March, the weather is a bit more unpredictable, and the sea ice is beginning to form again. ____19____ In two more weeks, expedition ships would not be able to break through the ice.The penguins are completing their yearly feather-changing process. ____20____ The expedition team made sure we kept our distance and did not scare them into hiding under freezing water.Thes e animals, arguably the cutest you will ever see, survive such unfavorable environments. It’s absolutely incredible to witness the challenges, the skill, the efforts, all of it. I am forever grateful to have been a visitor. This is bad, for we want people to work, not beg. Working is productive while begging is at best neutral and often a burden. Second, the beggar who receives the money might spend it on alcohol or drugs. ____17____When I went to elementary school, I remember that I was very moved by a song named "Streets of London". The song tells a heartbreaking story about some of London's poorest, an old man in particular. Not long ago, however, when I heard the song on the radio, it struck me that the man in the song does not live that horrible a life after all. Judging from the lyrics of the song, the man has shoes, and occasional access to a newspaper. ____18____ So why should you give money to the beggar in the developed world instead of the starving child in Africa? It might be harsh to claim that it is immoral to give money to Western beggars. After all, it seems reasonable that you can spend the money as you like. ____19____ If our aim is to benefit ourselves, then giving money to beggars is not suitable. If our aim is to benefit others, then giving money to beggars is also wasteful. In seeking to help others, we should not merely give to those who are geographically close to us and whose appearance arouses our sympathy. ____20____ To achieve this, we should first decide how much we are willing to spend helping others, and then donate money to the most efficient charity.A.Many people die of hunger in Africa.B.True as it might be, we should spend our money wisely.C.Why not donate money to those in need of financial aid?D.Upon reflection, however, I have come to change my mind.E.You almost certainly spend money helping the wrong people.F.In a world where thousands die of hunger every day, that's a pretty comfortable life.G.Rather, we should aid those who are the least responsible for the situation they're in. How I Signed My Kids Up for Rock ClimbingAs a sports family we’ve tried it all.

表示因果关系的连词有as a result结果,thus/therefore因此,so (such)...

表示转折关系的连接词有:However然而, nevertheless仍然,然而,不过, nonetheless无论如此,依旧,然而, still还;然而, though可是,不过,然而, yet然而, in spite of不顾,不管, at any rate无论如何,至少, in any case无论如何,不管怎样, whoever无论是谁, whatever无论什么,on the contrary 正相反, in contrast与此相反, 相比之下, by contrast相反,相比之下, in comparison比较起来,比较地, by comparison相比之下, conversely相反(地), otherwise否则;除此以外,not---but不是-----而是,as well也等。
