比如37题,选择合适的小标题,许多考生根据第二自然段中出现的short-term or long-term goals 选择了错误的选项set long-term goals, 而忽视了最后一句:in other words, keep focusing on the future。

3.完形填空本次考试中的完形填空也是和以往一样的记叙文题材,文章内容贴近生活,描述的是作者为父母亲准备圣诞礼物的一次经历。

His remarkable run offered new hope that such procedures, known as xenotransplantation (异种移植), could help relieve the shortage of replacement organs, saving thousands of lives each year. The earliest attempts at xenotransplantation of organs, involving kidneys from rabbits, goats, and other animals, occurred in the early 20th century, decades before the first successful human-to-human transplants. Rejection, which occurs when the recipient’s body system recognizes the donor organ as a foreign object and attacks it, followed within hours or days. Results improved after some special drugs arrived in the 1960s, but most recipients still died after a few weeks. The record for a heart xenotransplant was set in 1983, when an infant named Baby Fae survived for 20 days with an organ from a baboon (狒狒).In recent years, however, advances in gene editing have opened a new possibility: re-edit some genes in animals to provide user-friendly spare parts. Pigs could be ideal for this purpose, because they’re easy to raise and reach adult human size in months. Some biotech companies. including Revivicor, are investing heavily in the field. The donor pig was offered by Revivicor from a line of animals in which 10 genes had been re-edited to improve the heart’s condition. Beyond that, the pig was raised in isolation and tested regularly for viruses that could infecthumans or damage the organ itself. This medical breakthrough provided an alternative for the 20% of patients on the heart transplant waiting list who die while waiting or become too sick to be a good candidate. 8.What does the underlined word “run” in paragraph 2 refer to?A.Donating his heart to a patient.B.Performing the heart operation.C.Living for 60 days after the operation.D.Receiving a new heart from a pig.9.Which aspect of xenotransplantation does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?A.Its history.B.Its procedure.C.Its consequence.D.Its significance. 10.What makes pigs ideal for providing spare parts in xenotransplantation?A.Their growth rate and health condition.B.Their life pattern and resistance to viruses.C.Their easiness of keeping and rapid growth.D.Their investment value and natural qualities.11.Why was Bennett’s operation regarded as a breakthrough?A.It introduced new medications to prevent organ rejection.B.It proved the potential for using organs from various animals.C.It guaranteed a sufficient supply of donor pigs for transplants.D.It offered a prospect of replacement organs through gene editing.A Dutch company has developed technology to follow the movements and activities of cows. The high-tech system, powered by AI and motion sensors, is called “The Intelligent Dairy Farmer’s Assistant.” The company, Connecterra, launched the system in the United States in December after several years of testing and operations in Europe.A device is put around the neck of the cow to record its movements. This information is then processed by a computer that uses AI to learn about the animal’s behavior over time. The system can tell farmers what the cow is doing in real time. This information can help predict when cattle get sick, become less productive or are ready for mating.Richard Watson owns the Seven Oaks Dairy in Waynesboro, Georgia. He was one of thefirst American farmers to use the high-tech system.“It can pick up whether the cow is eating, whether it is walking, whether it is drinking, whether it is laying down, standing up.”Watson said the system is a big help because it is impossible for farmers to keep up with the activities of each cow individually. He added that having a computer identify which of his 2,000 cattle need attention could help improve farm productivity by up to 10 percent. He estimates this difference could greatly increase his profits.“Just a 10 percent or five percent increase, or improvement in productivity, means hundreds of thousands of dollars to us, aside from the fact that we just want happier and healthier and more welfare in our animals, anyway.”The founder and head of Connecterra is Yasir Khokhar. He says the idea for the system came while he was living on a dairy farm south of Amsterdam.“It turns out the technology farmers use is really outdated in many aspects,” Khokhar told the Associated Press. He added that most of the technology that does exist is difficult to use. He says modern agriculture greatly needs new technology like this. The company says information about the cows can be collected and seen on a cellphone or other mobile device. A text message can also inform farmers of concerns involving the animals. 12.How does “the Intelligent Dairy Farmer’s Assistant” help farmers?A.By giving alarms to farmers.B.By focusing farmers’ attention on cattle.C.By sending real-time information about cows to farmers.D.By telling farmers which cow is less productive or ready to mate.13.What’s Watson’s attitude towards the high-tech system?A.Indifferent.B.Neutral.C.Passive.D.Confident. 14.Why did Khokhar come up with the idea of the high tech system?A.Because he once lived on a diary farm.B.Because some agricultural technologies were out of date.C.Because he wanted to increase the income of farmers.D.Because some farming systems turned out to be a failure.15.What does the passage mainly talks about?A.Modern agriculture in America.B.Ways of raising cows more efficiently.C.A Dutch company known as a high- tech system.D.“Smart Farm” technology tracking behavior of cows. Are you someone who easily gets tired and doesn’t feel like doing anything? Do you label this kind of behavior as mere laziness? 16Feel disconnected from everything.People experiencing exhaustion most commonly don’t feel like themselves anymore, don’t feel engaged by anything and constantly struggle with the sense of helplessness and inability to take back control of their lives.Used to be motivated and passionate.A clear difference between someone who’s worn out and someone who’s lazy is that the tired people used to have things they were passionate about. 17 And even hate doing anything because of how much they overworked themselves.Become moody and annoyed.Do you suddenly find yourself easily angry? 18 If you start to have trouble controlling your emotions, especially when it never used to be a problem for you, this might be the reason why.19One of the warning signs is that you start neglecting your self-care and socially keep away from others. Unit 5 Period 1Ⅰ. 阅读理解AHospitals employ many therapeutic (治疗的) methods, such asmedication (药物), massage (按摩) therapy and music therapy. Andmusic therapy is growing in popularity.Sandra Siedliecki is a Senior Scientist at the NursingInstitute of Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She says music is a low-costtreatment. And she says scientists have done a lot of research on music’s effect on pain. Dr. Marian Good did a lot of studies looking at surgery (外科) patients and the use of music. In her studies, patients just listened to relaxing music. Dr. Good found that her surgery patients took fewer painkillers after they listened to music. Music had a good effect on short-term pain. However, chronic pain, the kind that recurs (复发) continually, changed a little under the effect of music.Dr. Linda Chlan was studying something different. She was not interested in patients’ pain, but instead, their anxiety. She spent a lot of time with people who were in the hospital because their anxiety was so great that the y couldn’t breathe. People with this condition often have to use breathing machines. Dr. Chlan said that the machines sometimes did little to improve their condition. Sometimes they even made things worse. The patients would become more anxious. Dr. Chlan let nurses tell patients that music was a good choice to make them feel better. They also placed signs near the patients’ beds — Listen to your music at least twice a day. The people who listened to music had a reduction (减少) in the amount of medication they received. In addition, their anxiety reduced by about 36 percent. Both doctors had similar explanations for why music was so helpful. Music can be a very powerful distractor (使分心的事物) in the brain when we’re listening to music that is pleasing and then it interrupts stressful thoughts.【语篇概述】音乐疗法在许多医院越来越流行。

Luckily, new research has found deep water reserves under the state which could help solve their drought crisis. Previous drilling of wells could only reach depths of 1,000 feet, but due to new pumping practices, water deeper than this can now be extracted(抽取). The team at Stanford investigated the aquifers(地下蓄⽔层) below this depth and found that reserves may be three times what was previously thought. The aquifers range from 1,000 to 3,000 feet below the ground, which means that pumping will be expensive and there are other concerns. The biggest concern of pumping out water from this deep is the gradual settling down of the land surface. As the water is pumped out, the vacant space left is compacted(压实) by the weight of the earth above.Even though pumping from these depths is expensive, it is still cheaper than desalinating (脱盐) the ocean water in this coastal state. Some desalination factories exist where possible, but they are costly to run and can need constant repairs. Wells are much more reliable sources of freshwater, and California is hoping that these deep wells may be the answer to their severe water shortage. One problem with these sources is that the deep water also has a higher level of salt than shallower aquifers. This means that some wells may even need to undergo desalination after extraction, thus increasing the cost. The result of a thorough study of groundwater from over 950 drilling logs has just been published. New estimates of the water reserves in the state now go up to 2,700 billion cubic meters of freshwater.21. How could California’s drought prob lem be solved according to some researchers?A. By building more reserves of groundwater.B. By drawing water from the depths of the earth.C. By developing more advanced drilling machines.D. By improving its water distribution system.22. What is mentioned as a consequence of pumping water from deep underground?A. The sinking of land surface.B. The harm to the ecosystem.C.The damage to aquifers.D. The change of the climate. 23. What does the author say about deep wells? A. They run without any need for repairs. B. They are the final solution to droughts. C. They are entirely free from pollution. D. They provide a steady supply of freshwater. . B⾼⼆下开学初周测-第1页(共10页) 1英语试题-第2页(共10页)In one of the old buildings near our school, one could see an old man sitting by a large window on the first floor. His name was James. During the three years at school, I had hardly ever found him missing from his usual position. He was a high-ranking government official and lived happily with his wife. Once there was a bus accident, in which a number of passengers were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment. James was responsible for the rescue operation. It was a big hospital, but James was shocked to notice how ill-equipped it was. There were no enough life-saving drugs and life-supporting equipment. The injured and their companions had to struggle there. James attempted to help. However, though he emptied his pockets, many of them died that day. That was a turning point in his life. He made a decision to devote his life to helpingothers, particularly the poor and needy patients and their companions. He began spending much of his income on these people. Since this required a lot of time and energy, he found it difficult to fulfill his official duties and therefore chose to retire, which, in turn, reduced his income considerably. His wife was deeply worried. Most of the time, James was out and paid least attention to home affairs. Meanwhile, as he was spending a lot helping others, she had to struggle even to meet the household expenses. Though she was not opposed to his helping the poor, she urged him not to overlook his own life and home, but it had no effect on him. One day they had a heated argument and in the end she left him, never to return. Though he continued with his work, this was a great blow and did serious harm to his health and enthusiasm and he was soon forced to stay indoors. That was when he took his position by the window, spending his time looking outside.A few weeks after my graduation, I returned to school, only to find the buildings gone. I heard that they were torn down. All the people left except James. Now the results of a recent trial at Microsoft suggest it could work even for the biggest businesses. The company introduced a program this summer in Japan called the "Work Life Choice Challenge", which shut down its offices every Friday in August and gave all employees an extra day off each week. The results were promising: while the amount of time spent at work was cut dramatically, productivity—measured by sales per employee went up by almost 40% compared to the same period of the previous year, the company said in a statement last week.In addition to reducing working hours, managers urged staff to cut down on the time they spent in meetings and responding to emails. They suggested that meetings should last no longer than 30 minutes. Employees were also encouraged to cut down on meetings altogether by using an online messaging app.The effects were widespread. More than 90% of Microsoft's 2,280 employees in Japan later said they were impacted by the new measures, according to the company. By shutting down earlier each week, the company was also able to save on other resources, such as electricity.Japan has long battled with a cruel--and in some cases, deadly--culture of overwork. The problem is so severe that the country has even coined a term for it: karoshi death by overwork from stress-induced illnesses or severe depression. The issue attracted international attention in 2015, when an employee at Japanese advertising giant Dentsu committed suicide on Christmas Day. Tokyo officials later said that the staff had worked excessive amounts of overtime. Two years later, a reporter at a Japanese broadcaster died after working punishing long hours. Her employer said she had clocked in 159 hours of overtime the month before her death. That has led businesses to start searching for solutions. Sonic companies have begun offering employees more flexibility, and the government has launched a campaign called "Premium Friday", which encourages workers to leave early every last Friday of the month.28. Despite this, we should learn how to manage anger in a constructive manner. In the most intense moments of anger, we usually have two choices — to fight or to run. Some choose the option of violence, which is a negative reaction to anger; and others choose to run. But the option of walking away and calming down is the more productive method of handling anger. It is difficult to walk away, especially when your heart is racing, and your anger is boiling over. There are some other constructive ways of handling anger in any situation. First, you have to stop for a brief moment and think before you act. Take that moment and calm down if you feel yourself being pushed. At that moment you should admit you are angry. If you refuse to admit you are angry or hurt, or if you make it appear that everything is all right, you are not managing angry in a productive way. You should first admit you are angry and let your feelings out before you blow up. For example, you can stay in a quiet place by yourself and shout; or you can talk to close friends to pour out your rage (愤怒). You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time.In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, you friends will help you; when you work hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转的) door: when it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.36. I was only 10 years old when my dad gave me the responsibility of feeding the chickens and cleaning up the coop. He believed it was important for me to have those jobs to learn responsibility. Then, when I was 22, I found a job in Natchbill at a country music club called the Natchbill Palace. I washed dishes and cooked from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and then went on to sing until 2:00 in the morning. It wasn’t long before I became known as a singing cook.I had been rejected so many times by record companies that it was hard not to be discouraged. One night, a woman executive (主管) from a company named Warner Brothers Records came to hear me sing. When the show was over, we sat down and talked, and after she left, I said to myself it was one more rejection. A few weeks later, my manager received a phone call —Warner Brothers Records wanted to sign a record deal with me. Soon after, I released my first record in June 1986. It sold over 2 million copies. My best efforts have gone into every job I’ve ever held.It was the sense of responsibility that made me feel like a man. Knowing that I had done my best filled me with pride. I still feel that way today, even though I have become a well-known singer.40. His hard work in his early years.CDown-to-earth means being honest, open, and easy to deal with. It is a pleasure to find someone who is down-to-earth. A person who is down-to-earth is easy to talk to. He or she accepts others as equals. A down-to-earth person may be an important member of society, of course, but they do not let their importance go to their heads, and they do not consider themselves to be better than others who are less important. Someone who is filled with self-importance and pride, often without cause, is said to have his nose in the air. There is no way a person with his nose in the air can be down-to-earth.Americans use another expression that is similar in some way to down-to-earth. The expression is both feet on the ground. Someone with both feet on the ground is a person with a good understanding of reality. He has what is called common sense. He may have dreams but he does not allow them to block his knowledge of what is real. The opposite kind of person is one who has his head in the clouds. A man with his head in the clouds is a dreamer whose mind is not in the world. Sometimes such a dreamer can be brought back to reality; sharp words from the teacher, for example, can usually get a daydreaming student to put both feet back on the ground. The person who is down-to-earth usually has both feet on the ground. But the opposite is not always true. Someone with both feet on the ground may not be as open and easy to deal with as someone who is down-to-earth. When we have both our feet firmly on the ground, we are realistic and we act honestly and openly toward others, and our lives are like the ground below us, solid and strong.44. If a person has his nose in the air, he ____.A. is down to the earthB. is easy to deal withC. always thinks he is more important than othersD. is confident45. If a person has both feet on the ground, he ____.A. is in touch with reality, and doesn’t have any dream sB. has some dreams but he is realisticC. is honest, open and easy to deal withD. is honest, open but hard to deal with46. From the second paragraph, we know that sharp words from ateacher can usually ________.A. help a student get down to the earthB. wake a student upC. help a daydreaming student come down to the groundD. help a daydreaming student to become more realistic47. The underlined sentence “But the opposite is not always true.” mostprobably means that ______.A. the person who has his nose in the air is not trueB. a man with his head in the clouds is often not intelligentC. the opposite direction is always wrongD. a person who has both feet on the ground may not bedown-to-earthDMost Americans believe that someone isn’t grown-up until the age of 26 and they should complete their education, have a full-time job, have a family to support and be financially independent. They also believe that becoming a real grown-up is a process which begins at about the age of 20 and takes about five years, according to the report from the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center. The findings are based on a representative sample of 1,398 people over the age of 18 who were surveyed in person. The survey found thatpeople expect the transitions to grown-up status to be completed at the following ages: age 20.9 self-supporting; age 21.1 no longer living with parents; age 21.2 having a full-time job; age 22.3 education completed; age 24.5 being able to support a family financially; age 25.7 getting married; and age 26.2 having a child.“There is a large degree of agreement across social groups on the relative importance of the seven transitions,” said Tom Smith, director of the survey. The only obvious pattern of differences is on views about supporting a family, having children and getting married. Older adults consider these more important than younger adults do. This probably shows in large part a change in values across generations away from traditional family values. The most valued step toward reaching adulthood, the survey found, is completing education, followed by full-time employment, supporting a family, financial independence, living independently, and marriage.48. According to the first paragraph, someone is a grown-up when he_______.A. has found a full-time jobB. has finished his study in universityC. can make money and support himself after completing hiseducationD. can support a family and be financially independent aftergraduation49. A young man of 24 may be busy ________.A. finding a jobB. finding a girl friendC. making moneyD. preparing for his wedding50. But it cannot be denied that it is definitely necessary and after all, working through difficult material is a necessary part of the learning process—which leads to the obvious question:if I have to do it, is there at least away to make it fun?During Carol Dweck’s research for her book Mindset:The New Psychology of Success, she observed that students approach learning in one of two ways:they either look at complexcourses with a fixed mindset Or with a growth mindset(思维模式). Those with fixed mindsets believe that intelligence (智力) and talent are set in stone. For example, if they find a certain math problem difficult, they’d think, “I guess I’m just not a math person.” In contrast, students with growth mindsets are certain that they could change and grow in every area of their lives. If they come across a challenging equation(等式), they tend to think, “I can get better at this...But I have to tough it out.”Dweck found that most students start out pretty interested in a subject. Yet over the semester, something happens. Students with the fixed mindset may stay interested only when they do well right away. Those who find it difficult are likely to show a big drop in their interest and enjoyment If it isn’t a testimony(证明) to their intelligence, they can’t enjoy it In contrast students with the growth mindset are able to continue to show the same high level of enjoyment even when they find the work very challenging. 高二英语第15周限时训练命题人:谭美兰审核人:彭碧娥使用时间:2017.05.15第一节阅读理解(共一节,每小题2分)AThe great avenues are quiet, and the shops are closed. There’s the smell of fresh bread from a bakery somewhere. It would be hard to say which time of the day in Paris I prefer but this is probably it. Soon the streets will be full of people and traffic. As with most other cities, you see the real Paris when the city wakes up.There is, however, another part of Paris which is silent and free from people 24 hours a day. Under the city are hundreds of kilometres of abandoned tunnels. During the 19th century, Paris needed more stones for buildings above the ground, so people dug tunnels beneath the city. After that, many farmers grew mushrooms in them. During World War II, the French soldiers also used them. Since the 1970s, many young people have started spending days and nights below the city in these tunnels. It’s now a place for parties, theatre performances, art galleries –anything goes!A “normal” tourist can visit some parts of Paris’s tunnel system, such as the underground cemetery, where you can see the bones of about six million Parisians. The bodies came from cemeteries above the ground two centuries ago when the city needed more space. However, people are not allowed to ent er other parts of the tunnel system. It’s very dangerous because some tunnels might collapse and people will be trapped below. Nevertheless, there are people who will take you to visit them. I have found two “unofficial” tour guides who take me through man y tunnels. After a couple of hours we arrive at a room which isn’t on any map. The room is comfortable and clean with a table and chairs and a bed. The guide tells me there are many other places like this. “Many people come down here to party, some people to paint… We do what we want here.”1. What is the writer’s favourite time of the day in Paris?A. Early morning.B. Midday.C. Early evening.D. Late night.2. Why did French people first start digging tunnels?A. For many housing.B. For building stones.C. For entertainment.D. For growing mushrooms.3. The underlined word “collapse” in the last paragraph in closest in meaning to .A. disappearB. closeC. fall downD. blow up4. Which of the following is the most suitable title for this passage?A. Tunnels under ParisB. Travel around ParisC. The history of ParisD. The best-known tourist attraction in ParisBWhat would you do if you saw a mountain gorilla? Most people would probably be very afraid and run away. That’s because gorillas have a very frightening appearance. Firstly, gorillas are huge. They can grow up to 2 metres tall and can weigh more than 200 kilograms (made gorillas weigh twice as much as female gorillas). Secondly, gorillas can make a lot of noise. They can roar, beat their chests and show their teeth. In fact, these angry actions are very rare and mail gorillas only do it when their families are under attack. The truth is, gorillas are incredibly intelligent, gentle and social animals that stay together in small family groups. The leader is the largest male, and is called the silverback. That’s because of the beautiful silver fur on its back. Gorillas spend almost all their time on the forest floor, eating and sleeping. They are mainly vegetarian, although they eat some insects. Young gorillas often play together. They run around and climb trees. At night, the animals make a nest to sleep in. The lighter gorillas nest in trees, the heavier gorillas make nests on the ground and babies sleep with their mothers. Gorillas rarely attack humans. They only fight when something or someone attacks them or their young. In that situation, they will fight to the death. Hunters looking for baby gorillas may have to kill the whole family to get what they want.Sadly, there are fewer than 650 mountain gorillas left in the wild, which means they are an endangered animal. These gorillas only live in the mountain jungles of central Africa. They are endangered because people hunt them for food and for sport. They are also threatened by war, and humans cutting down their forests for farmland, fuel and housing. Life for these gentle giants isn’t peaceful.5. What is a silverback according to the passage?A. Any gorilla with silver fur.B. Any male gorilla in the group.C. The leader in the gorilla family.D. The oldest gorilla in the group.6. Where would you expect to find a silverback gorilla sleeping at night?A. In the trees.B. On the ground.C. With the baby gorillas.D. Away from the others.7. The underline word “they” in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.A. fightersB. huntersC. baby gorillasD. gorilla families8. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?A. To describe the lifestyle of mountain gorillas.B. To summarize the details of the passage.C. To explain why mountain gorillas are endangered.D. To examine the behavior of mountain gorillas.第二节语法填空(共10小题,每小题1.5分,满分15分)Would you give up your smartphone for free food?
