Some people believe that schools should primarily teach students how to become good citizens, while others believe that the main purpose of schools is to prepare students for the workforce. Discuss both views and give your opinion. In today's rapidly changing world, the role of schools is a subject of debate. Some argue that schools should focus on teaching students how to become responsible citizens, while others emphasize the importance of preparing students for the workforce.Proponents of the first view argue that schools play a crucial role in shaping responsible citizens. They believe that schools should instill values such as empathy, tolerance, and civic engagement. By prioritizing citizenship education, schools can contribute to the development of individuals who are not only skilled in their professions but also actively participate in their communities. On the other hand, advocates for the workforce preparation perspective argue that schools must equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for their future careers. In today's competitive job market, practical skills and qualifications are essential for success. Therefore, schools should prioritize subjects that are directly relevant to the workforce. In my opinion, a balanced approach is necessary. Schools should strive to achieve both goals. By providing a well-rounded education that includes citizenship education and workforce preparation, schools can produce well-rounded individuals who are not only skilled professionals but also responsible citizens.2. Some people believe that the government should be responsible for providing healthcare for all citizens, while others think that individuals should take responsibility for their healthcare. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The issue of healthcare provision is a topic of ongoing debate. Some argue that the government should be responsible for providing healthcare to all citizens, while others believe that individuals should take responsibility for their healthcare.Supporters of government-funded healthcare argue that it is a fundamental right for all citizens to have access to healthcare services. They contend that a public healthcare system ensures that everyone, regardless of their financial status, can receive medical treatment when needed. This, they argue, promotes equality and social well-being.On the other hand, proponents of individual responsibility for healthcare argue that personal health choices, such as diet and exercise, play a significant role in one's well-being. They believe that individuals should take proactive measures to maintain their health and seek private healthcare options when necessary. This approach, they argue, encourages personal accountability. In my view, a combination of both approaches is ideal. Government-funded healthcare can provide a safety net for those who cannot afford private healthcare, ensuring that basic medical services are accessible to all. However, individuals should also be encouraged to take responsibility for their health through healthy lifestyle choices and preventative measures.3. Environmental problems are too big for individual countries and individual persons to address. In today's world, we should focus more on international cooperation. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Environmental issues, such as climate change and pollution, have global implications that extend beyond the borders of individual countries. Some argue that addressing these problems requires a greater emphasis on international cooperation rather than relying solely on individual countries and individuals.I strongly agree with the view that international cooperation is essential to effectively tackle environmental problems. Climate change, for example, is a global issue that requires collective action from nations worldwide. The impact of greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and other environmental challenges transcends national boundaries, making it impossible for any single country to address them in isolation.International cooperation can lead to the development of comprehensive strategies and agreements aimed at mitigating environmental problems. The Paris Agreement, for instance, is a testament to the power of global collaboration in addressing climate change. Moreover, international cooperation fosters knowledge sharing and technological advancements. Countries can learn from each other's successes and failures in addressing environmental issues, leading to more effective solutions. In conclusion, the scale and complexity of environmental problems demand international cooperation. While individual countries and individuals have a role to play, it is only through collective global efforts that we can hope to mitigate the impact of these challenges and protect the planet for future generations.4. Some people argue that advances in technology have made our lives more stressful, while others believe that technology has made our lives easier and more convenient. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The impact of technology on our lives is a subject of debate. Some argue that advances in technology have increased stress levels, while others believe that technology has made our lives easier and more convenient.Supporters of the view that technology has increased stress levels point to several factors. They argue that the constant connectivity provided by smartphones and the internet has blurred the boundaries between work and personal life, leading to increased stress. Additionally, the rapid pace of technological change can create anxiety as individuals struggle to keep up with the latest developments. On the other hand, proponents of technology's role in making our lives easier highlight its numerous benefits. They argue that technology has improved communication, access to information, and efficiency in various aspects of life. Tasks that were once time-consuming are now simplified through automation and digital tools. In my opinion, technology has the potential to both increase stress and enhance convenience, depending on how it is used. It is essential forindividuals to strike a balance between leveraging technology for its benefits while also managing its potential negative impacts on stress. Responsible and mindful use of technology can lead to a more convenient and less stressful life.5. Some people believe that social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have a positive impact on society, while others argue that they have a negative influence. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The influence of social media platforms on society is a topic of ongoing debate. Some argue that these platforms have a positive impact, while others contend that they have a negative influence.Supporters of the positive impact of social media argue that these platforms facilitate communication and connectivity among individuals worldwide. They provide a space for people to share information, connect with friends and family, and raise awareness about important social issues. Social media has played a crucial role in organizing movements and campaigns for social change. However, critics argue that social media can have a negative influence on society. They point to issues such as cyberbullying, the spread of misinformation, and the negative impact on mental health. Theaddictive nature of social media and the potential for echo chambers where individuals are exposed only to like-minded opinions are also concerns. In my opinion, social media platforms have the potential for both positive and negative impacts, depending on how they are used. It is essential for individuals to use these platforms responsibly, critically evaluate the information they encounter, and be mindful of their online interactions. When used thoughtfully, social media can be a powerful tool for positive social change and connectivity.6. Some people believe that the government should regulate the fast-food industry to prevent health problems, while others think this is the responsibility of individuals. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The regulation of the fast-food industry is a topic of debate. Some argue that the government should intervene to prevent health problems, while others believe that individuals should take responsibility for their dietary choices.Proponents of government regulation contend that the fast-food industry has a significant role in contributing to health problems such as obesity and heart disease. They argue that stricter regulations, such aslimiting advertising to children or mandating clearer nutritional information, can help consumers make informed choices and ultimately lead to better public health outcomes. On the other hand, advocates for individual responsibility argue that adults should have the freedom to make their own dietary choices. They believe that educating individuals about nutrition and encouraging healthier eating habits should be the primary focus, rather than imposing government regulations. In my view, a balanced approach is necessary. While individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices, the fast-food industry does have a responsibility to provide clear and accurate information about the nutritional content of their products. Government regulations can help ensure transparency and protect consumers, especially in cases involving children's advertising.7. Some people believe that the best way to solve environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Addressing environmental problems, particularly related to carbon emissions and air pollution, is a critical concern. Some argue that raisingthe cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles is an effective way to incentivize environmentally friendly behavior.I strongly agree with the view that increasing the cost of fuel can be an effective strategy to combat environmental problems. Higher fuel prices encourage individuals to use public transportation, carpool, or consider alternative transportation options such as electric or hybrid vehicles. This, in turn, reduces the carbon footprint and air pollution associated with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.Furthermore, the additional revenue generated from higher fuel prices can be reinvested in the development of cleaner and more sustainable transportation infrastructure, such as improved public transit systems and bike lanes. In conclusion, increasing the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles can serve as a powerful incentive for individuals to adopt more environmentally friendly transportation choices. This measure not only addresses environmental problems but also promotes sustainable and responsible behavior.8. Some people argue that the widespread use of smartphones and social media has led to a decline in face-to-face social interactions. Do you agree or disagree? The impact of smartphones and social media on face-to-face social interactions is a matter of ongoing debate. Some argue that these technologies have led to a decline in such interactions, while others disagree.I agree with the view that the widespread use of smartphones and social media has, to some extent, led to a decline in face-to-face social interactions. Many people are now more engaged in their digital lives, constantly checking their phones for messages, updates, and social media notifications. This can reduce the quality and quantity of in-person interactions. Moreover, the convenience of virtual communication can lead to a preference for online interactions over face-to-face conversations. People may choose to communicate via text or social media rather than meeting in person, which can contribute to a decline in direct human contact. However, it's essential to recognize that technology's impact on social interactions is complex and multifaceted. While there are challenges associated with smartphone use, these devices also enable connections with people across long distances and can enhance social interactions in various ways. The key is to strike a balance between digital and in-person communication to maintain healthy social relationships.9. Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each year, while others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The structure of school vacations is a topic of discussion. Some argue that students should have one long vacation each year, while others believe that several short vacations throughout the year are more beneficial.Proponents of one long vacation argue that it provides students with an extended period for relaxation and the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities, such as travel or internships. They contend that a lengthy break allows students to recharge and return to school with renewed enthusiasm. On the other hand, advocates for several short vacations believe that shorter breaks distributed throughout the year help maintain continuity in learning. They argue that students are less likely to experience "summer learning loss" and can better retain knowledge when they have regular breaks for rest and rejuvenation. In my opinion, a combination of both approaches can be beneficial. Having one long vacation each year can provide students with an extended break for exploration and relaxation. However, incorporatingshorter breaks throughout the academic year can help students maintain focus and prevent burnout. The key is to strike a balance that ensures students have ample opportunities for both learning and leisure.10. Some people argue that advancements in automation and artificial intelligence will lead to widespread job loss and unemployment. Do you agree or disagree? The impact of automation and artificial intelligence on employment is a topic of concern and debate. Some argue that these advancements will result in widespread job loss and unemployment, while others disagree.I believe that while automation and AI will indeed reshape the job market, they may not necessarily lead to widespread job loss and unemployment. Automation has the potential to eliminate certain routine and repetitive tasks, but it also creates opportunities for new types of jobs and industries. For example, as automation takes over routine tasks, it frees up human workers to focus on more creative and complex aspects of their jobs. Additionally, the development and maintenance of automation systems and AI technologies require skilled workers, leading to the creation of jobs in those fields. Moreover, automation and AI have the potential to improve productivity and efficiency in various industries, which can lead to economic growth and the creation of new businesses and jobs.In conclusion, while advancements in automation and artificial intelligence will undoubtedly impact the job market, the overall effect may not necessarily be widespread job loss and unemployment. Adaptation, reskilling, and a focus on emerging industries are essential for individuals and economies to thrive in the changing landscape of work.。

Scientists believe that eating fast food is harmful to one’s health. Some people think that education can help them change that bad habit. Others, however, argue that education does not work. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

So prevailing are the fast foods that some teenagers are in the habit eating junk foods nearly every week. From the perspective of some nutritionists, too much intake of sugar, calorie and fat is undoubtedly health-threatening, for fast food,in most cases, is low in nutritional value. People differ greatly in their views as to how to foster wholesome dietary habit. As I see it, educating the public about the dangers of unhealthy eating, regulating baneful sales and food advertisements to children and lowering the price of healthy foods should be used together to help people keep fit.【二段】Granted, one effective way to promote a healthy diet is to educate people about the potential risks of unhealthy diet. Modern people might opt for healthier meals and snacks if they are taught that fast foods are high in salt, fat and sugar. To illustrate, I myself changed my unwholesome eating habits after watching television programs on how to preserve health. Also, while it is of great significance to educate adult eater, schoolchildren should be main target for education because they are not only in their formative years but also the regular eaters of fast foods.【三段】In addition to education, other ways to promote healthy eating are not far to seek. First, methods should be adopted to strictly censor those junk food advertisement aiming at children. Meanwhile, bundle sale of children’ meals by giving out gift toys ought to be banned. Virtually, American has already enacted relevant legislations to restrict such sale promotion of KFC and Mcdonald's. Also, it is imperative for the governments to ensure that healthy foods are cheaper so that people could afford to buy the wholesome foods. Imaginably, the decreased price of fresh fruits and vegetable could enable more people to enjoy healthier foods.【尾段】Overall, education could aid people to change bad eating habits. However, it also works to restrain the improper publicity and sale of fast food restaurant as well as lower the price of wholesome foods【老师语料库】1. So prevailing are the fast foods that some children and youngsters are in the habit of eating fast foods nearly every week.

Trade and travel would be a lot easier with a single, global currency that we all use.Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Would a single currency cause any problems? It is clear to me that the idea of a single global currency is an excellent ideal to work towards. There can be no doubt that trade and travel would be vastly easier. On the other hand I believe that it would cause problems today. The benefits of a single currency can be seen with the use in Europe of the Euro. Whenever you are travelling between countries using the Euro, the problems of currency changing and exchange rates are history. Similarly business between countries using the Euros is so much easier; no more worrying about exchange rate risk and pricing. Everyon e‛s money is the same. The same thing is true with the US dollar. Most countries do not use the US dollar but it is accepted in many places. There are many countries that you can travel to and just take US dollars to use.At present though a global currency would be impossible. Firstly most countries would not accept the idea. Secondly all countries are in different economic states. Some are economically very strong and some are in a state of collapse with inflation ruining the economy. Such countries could not be brought into a world currency as it would cause massive financial instability worldwide. So it is clear that a global currency would indeed cause some serious problems. So, in conclusion I see a global currency as a future ideal but it will not happen in my lifetime. It would make trade and travel much easier but the problems it would cause nowadays would be insurmountable.

Last month it was the first time that I traveled to Beijing for business, signing a contract with a Chinese food company. Unfortunately I got a bad flu and then had a fever. I was sent to your hospital. Because my temperature was nearly 40 degree centigrade, I was asked to be in hospital. I worried about my business and the delay of signing the contact would lead to great losses to my company. However, After the doctors’ careful treatment and nurses’ patient care, I was recovered only in 4 days.I completed the negotiation with the food company smoothly and signed the contract on time finally. So I sincerely appreciate all the staffs in your hospital who helped me full-heatedly. I was deeply impressed by the kind doctors and nurses, the pleasant and comfortable environment, and considerate services. I have no relatives and friends in Beijing, but I felt at home in your hospital. I will always remember all those warmhearted persons and your hospital in my heart.Best wishes to you all! Y ou should spend about 40 minutes on this task. We can travel swiftly, and usually safely, over the roads which have been built to accommodate our cars. People can display their wealth by driving a car which may cost as much as another person’s home. - Introduction:advantages of cars (brief)Sadly the car has become a disadvantage as well as a boom. The car pollutes the atmosphere, may be involved in serious accidents, and by its very numbers blocks roads and chokes cities. How can we reduce its use? - Brief statement of problem: disadvantages of carsThe car is only desirable if we can use it easily, so we might begin by reducing accessto parking spaces in the cities and simultaneously increasing the quality and availability of public transport. Cars could be banned form certain parts of the city, thus forcing people to walk or to use public transport. - Ideas for cutting the number of carsThe expense of buying and running a car can be raised. If the motorist is faced with a high purchase price, high road tax, high insurance premiums and substantial fines he or she may reconsider the purchase. A corresponding reduction in the price of public transport would help this financial argument against car ownership.Neither of these arguments will sway the super rich who can afford the status cars, but it would perhaps encourage them to look at other ways of demonstrating their wealth. However we do it, reducing the number of cars on the road will reduce the problems of pollution and the congestion which can bring cities to a standstill. - Conclusions: states the benefits of reducing the number of carsRemember:this sample answer is one of several satisfactory ways to answer the question. Cars are evils resulting from modernization, for they make people suffer rather than enjoy life.2. Traffic accidents caused by cars not only bring death and injury, but also make people suffer mentally and psychologically.3. Every year car owners have to pay vast sums to the exchequer: road tax, purchase tax, oil tax, etc. This is a big drain on their resources.4. Since China has such a large population, the popularisation of private cars will only bring about 123ious social problems.5. Cars should be done away with. The roads are so often jammed with cars that ambulances and fire engines find it difficult to fulfil their duties.7. Should the government encourage a certain % of these jobs to be reserved for women?Y ou should spend no more than 40 minutes on this task. Y ou should write a minimum of 250 words. Y ou should use your own ideas﹐knowledge and experience to support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. 1、Introduction - short statement of opinion.2、Body paragraph (1)(2) Different reasons to support opinion. (3) Statement of opposite point of view “balances” essay.3、Conclusion - summarizes Body.Model Answers:1、Introduction / opinionMost of the jobs in society that are high-paying,powerful,and demand a lot of responsibility are held by men. I do not believe this situation arose because women are incapable of doing high-level work. I believe society could benefit if more women were in postions of power and therefore I think the government should reserve a percentage of these jobs for females.2、Why should government encourage a certain % of high level jobs for women?(first reason)Firstly, the problem of unfair employment distribution appears to come from social convention and not competence or true ability. At a young age most girls are not encouraged to pursue political office, business success, or professional prestige . On the other hand, boys are told to do these things. As a result, men hold the high level jobs but this does not mean they are very good at what they do. If the government set a quota for hiring women to do high level work, such as working in the government itself, then perhaps women would be more inspired to be ambitious in their life plans and contribute to a less-than perfect society.(second reason) Furthermore, regulations in the workplace for hiring women would not be a new thing. Although not written or made into law, there seems to be rules for who can and cannot have high-level jobs. For instance, if a man and awoman both competed for the presidency of a company or even the country, and both were equally qualified and had the same experience and background, there is little doubt who would get the job. Even more, if the man was less qualified and less experienced than the woman, the man would still probably get the job because of his sex. Therefore, to legislate a percentage of high level jobs for women would work to fight the unwritten sexist rules of the workplace.Other points of view: 3-different arguments against my opinion. On the other hand, there are many arguments against the use of a quota system for women. It is true that the injustice and discrimination could be reversed. This is to say that some qualified men might be denied a job while some unqualified women would be given one. Also, the problem of sexism at work could be worsened instead of being overcome. People would doubt whether a women with a high level job was “truly capable” --men might feel bitterness and resentment, while women might think less of themsel ves and begin to depend on government “charity” Furthermore, there is the problem of defining what is a high-level job and determining an appropriate percentage. ( Final statement that supports my opinion again.)→Nonetheless, a quota system would break down some barriers in the short-term. Sexism in the workplace will not just magically disappear.3、ConclusionTo sum up, I have outlined some advantages and disadvantages of making quotas for the number of women in high level jobs. Despite some of the obvious problems I believe that men and women can and should share power, wealth, and prestige. It is a cause worthy of our efforts. Discuss the difference between fast food and traditional food, such as nutrition, and recipe? Living in a fast-paced society, the modern eaters are not longer interested in the contents of their food, but focused on whether a convenient meal is available at hand to devour. Its unique charms can nurture social relations as well. A family is accustomed to prepare a traditional feast to serve their guests at weekend or on holiday, such as Christmas.Further, traditional food is favourably nutritious and balanced, compared with fast food. Dieticians have suggested audience through millions of televised courses that traditional food can retain more nutrition before being served on the table, for in general, they are cooked with a temperate heat. By contrast, the fast food are made at such a high temperature that nutrition has inescapably vaporised during the cooking process. Meanwhile, cooks pay more attention to the balance of recipe when preparing traditional food, such as combing meat with vegetable.Despite a range of advantages, traditional food is overshadowed by its fast competitor in terms of time. Traditional food can consume a considerable amount of time from choosing materials, to arranging your table for visual appeal. In contrast, fast food cannot be faster when making a five-minute trip to a store around the corner, or even dialling to a fast food company.
