Part of the answer, according to a new study, is related to the first flu strain we encounter in childhood.Scientists from UC LA and the University of Arizona have found that people’s ability to fight off the flu virus is determined not only by the subtypes of flu they have had throughout their lives, but also by the sequence(顺序)in which they have been infected by those viruses. Their study was published in the open-access journal PLoS Pathogens. The research offers an explanation for why some people become much worse than others when infected with the same strain of the flu virus. In addition, UCLA scientists, including Professor James Lloyd-Smith, who was also a senior author of the PLoS Pathogens research, recently completed a study that analyzed travel-related screening for the novel coronavirus(冠状病毒)2019-nCoV. The researchers reported that screening travelers is not very effective for the 2019 coronavirus —that it will catch less than half of infected travelers, on average —and that most infected travelers are undetectable, meaning that they have no symptoms yet, and are unaware that they have been exposed. So stopping the spread of the virus is not simply a matter of enhancing screening methods at airports and other travel centers.“This puts the onus(责任,负担) on government officials and public health officials to follow up with travelers after they arrive, to isolate them and trace their contacts if they get sick later,” said Lloyd-Smith, a UCLA professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. “Many governments have started to impose quarantines(隔离), or even travel bans, as they realize that screening is not sufficient to stop th e spread of the coronavirus.”One major concern, Lloyd-Smith said, is that other countries, especially developing nations, lack the infrastructure and resources for those measures, and are therefore vulnerable to importing the disease. “Much of the public health world is very concerned about the virus being introduced into Africa or India, where large populations exist that do not have access to advanced medical care,” he said.4.What is the significance of the scientists’research?A.It explains the cause of the flu virus.B.It reduces the risk of people being infected.C.It analyzes people’s ability to fight off the virus.D.It stops the spread of the flu virus all around the world.5.What do we know about the novel coronavirus from paragraph 3?A.Travelers are at high risk of being exposed to it.B.It is more difficult to stop its spread than expected.C.Most travelers infected with it are detected by screening.D.It spreads especially quickly at airports and railway stations.6.Why does the writer mention Lloyd-Smith’s words in paragraph 4?A.To persuade people not to travel.B.To provide a method to kill the virus.C.To show the harmful effects of the virus.D.To stress the responsibilities of officials.7.Which of the following best explains the underlin ed word“vulnerable”in the last paragraph? A.weak B.impossible.C.responsible. D.indifferent.The year 2114 will be an eventful one for art.In May of that year in Berlin, the philosopher-artist Jonathon Keats’“century cameras”-cameras with a 100-year-long exposure time-will be retrieved from hiding places around the city to have their results developed and exhibited.Six months after that, the Future Library in Oslo,Norway, will open its doors for the first time, presenting 100 books printed on the wood of trees in the distant past of 2014.As Katie Paterson, the creator of the Future Library, puts it:“Future Library is an artwork for future generations.”These projects, more than a century in the making, are part of a new way of“slow art”intended to push viewers and participants to think beyond their own lifetimes. They aim to challenge today’s short-term thinking and the brief attention spans of modern consumers, forcing people into considering works more deliberately. In theirway, too, they are fighting against modern culture-not just regarding money but also the way in which artistic worth is measured by attention. In a similar fashion, every April on Slow Art Day,visitors are encouraged to stare at five works of art for 10 minutes at a time-a tough ask for the average museum visitor, who typically spends less than 30 seconds on each piece of art.Like the Future Library, the century cameras are very much a project for cities, since it’s in cities that time runs fastest and the pace of life is fastest.“Since I started living in a city,I’vesomehow been quite disconnected,”Anne Beate Hovind, the Future Library project manager, who described how working on the library drew her back to the pace of life she knew when she was growing up on a farm in her youth, told The Atlantic magazine.Works like Future Library and the century cameras raise all sorts of questions. Will any of the cameras survive? Will any of Future Library works be any good? What will future generations make of century art,and will they see it as the gift that it’s intended to be?More specifically, for those of us struggling with“a crisis of attention”,the question seems to be:How can we adopt this attitude now,in everyday life? When we struggle to look up from our mobile phones, how can we look beyond the present moment and think broadly and generously across time?8.What will happen in May 2114 in Berlin according to the article?A.A camera produced 100 years ago will be exhibited.B.The Future Library will open its doors for the first time.C.Photos with a 100-year exposure time will be developed and exhibited.D.Books printed on the wood of trees planted in 2014 will be displayed in the city. 9.What does the underlined word“retrieved”in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A.brought back B.put awayC.replaced D.repaired10.We can learn from the article that the wave of slow art_______.A.started in the late 20th century in GermanyB.is pushing people to spend more money on works of artC.aims to promote modern cultureD.encourages people to pay more attention to works of art11.What can be concluded from the article?A.People living in urban areas are likely to feel more connected to the outside world. B.Katie Paterson is very optimistic about the survival of the century cameras.C.Anne Beate Hovind believes the Future Library will be a perfect solution to the current crisis of people paying attention.D.There remain a lot of doubts about works like the Future Library and the century cameras.Alice is a senior at Sunset High School (SHS) in America. The kids in her school are looking forward to senior graduation and summer vacation. And they still desire to live asignificant life: doing something worthwhile and making a difference.Alice, senior class president, decides to take action by organizing a food drive. It's nice to see people supporting each other.I think it's really good hat we're belong more cautious, especially within the community,Alice says.Every individual is aware of how to take care of themselves, their family and others them. They join hands make a big difference indeed. Even if we are not the first to discover these places, finding places that are not so obvious can be rewarding. One of our favorite parks in Beijing is Huangcaowan Country Park, a great place for a bicycle trip out past the Fourth Ring Road. 18.On a recent weekend, my wife wanted to get off one of the main trails (小路) to see where a narrow dirt trail would take us. 19.But after we passed a rough stretch (延伸) of old paved walkway, we discovered a new trail, beautifully landscaped and skillfully paved with stones, between a canal and the walls of local business, campuses and industries. I always find it difficult to 21 my emotions. And each time I’ve 22 exactly why these emotional moments are considered so taboo (忌讳的). Is it a universal truth that you just can’t cry 23 ?As someone put it on the internet, as professional women, we’re dealing with the great expectation to “be 24 in the pursuit(追求) of what sets your goal on fire” while also making enough money to pay rent. 25 , my eyes get a little watery just thinking about it. Time for Americans to act on climate changeThe climate crisis is worsening at a rate that is becoming harder and harder to ignore. For more than two decades, scientific reports have made it clear that global warming is real, that humans cause it and that the consequences will be disastrous. The scientific community has become increasingly panicked over the past year. The latest assessment from the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change painted a far more terrible picture than its previous analyses, and the long-awaited National Climate Assessment made clear that climate change represents a severe threat to human health as well as our economic security. Out of this panic came the treaty(条约)reached this past weekend by world leaders to keep the Paris climate agreement alive.Yet many Americans still don't regard the threat as a key priority for our government, and support President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris treaty. Campaign contributions from fossil fuel companies have convinced elected officials to look the other way. A certain amount of despair has resulted in widespread apathy(漠然).But there is another reason that has been discussed far less openly. While a growing number of people understand that climate change will have significant worldwide consequences, many Americans have an intuitive(直觉的)belief that their nation is more capable than others of adapting to a changed environment. Why? Because they have before. This historical success, however, resulted from the federal government taking science seriously, and making investments to urge revolution and innovation. But these innovations did not happen by themselves, or simply because of the United States' rich resources. They depended on consistent support from the leaders about the need to take action when faced with crises. This has been especially true in the environmental crisis.President Bill Clinton had a shockingly modest record of advancing climate security, particularly given that his vice president, Al Gore, had been one of the most outspoken environmentalists in Congress. By far Clinton's biggest accomplishment was assigning Gore to participate іn thе Куоtо Рrоtoсоl negotiations. While this effort probably would have failed, it would have signaled to the American people how seriously the Democratic Party took climate change. Thus, the time has clearly arrived for progressive candidates to start campaigning on a platform built around the need for a sustainability revolution. Such a plan should include a carbon tax, well-funded clean energy research, evolved agricultural policies and smarter public transport. Given that Generation X and millennials(千禧一代)never bought into the fiction that the United States is immune to the dangers of global warming, the time is ripe to make climate security a crucial government responsibility. A few people might say they’re cute, but the majority think they’re stubborn, dumb and all-round less capable than their horse s.However, this wasn’t the case for a recently unearthed ancient Chinese noblewoman who was unexpectedly found buried with her donkeys. Published in the journal Antiquity in March, Chinese archaeologists (考古学家) first discovered the tomb in Xi’an, Shaanxi, in 2012. The team examined the remains and identified the body as Cui Shi, a Tang Dynasty high-born lady who died in 878 AD.Speaking to Science Magazine in 2012, the study’s co-author, Fiona Marshall, said the finding caused confusion as “donkeys … are not associated with high-status people”.However, following years of further research, the team discovered artworks and artifacts that showed a sport known as “Lvju”. This was similar to modern-day polo (马球)and was popular among noble (高贵的) women at the time. They preferred to use donkeys instead of full-sized horses for safety reasons, due to their smaller size and slower speed.Speaking to CNN, Marshall later said, “Historical documents also showed that ladies of the late Tang court loved to play donkey polo.”At that time in Chinese history, animals were often placed in tombs so that they could be used for a specificpurpose in the afterlife. The study determined that Cui Shi likely requested that her beloved donkeys be buried with her, so that she could continue her favorite sport after death. In total, three donkeys were found inside her tomb with riding gear (装备), including stirrups (马镫). “This context provides evidence that the donkeys in her tomb were for polo, not transport,” lead author Hu Songmei of the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology told Science Magazine. Before the study, it was believed that donkeys were only used to carry loads, but now it may be time to see them as a sign of achieving high social status(地位), well, in ancient times.4. The donkeys were found in the tomb of Cui Shi probably because _______.A. she intended to use them for transport after deathB. her family didn’t want her to be lonely after deathC. she wanted to continue to play Lvju after deathD. noble women needed donkeys to maintain their dignityCThe United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included on December 17, 2020 China's Tai Chi on the RepresentativeList of the Intangible(无形的)Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was announced during the online meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held from December 14 to19 inKingston, capital ofJamaica.“Born in the mid-17th century in a small village named Chenjiagou located in Central China's Henan province, Tai Chi is not only a kind of traditional Wushu integrated with slow movements and deep breathing, but is also deeply rooted in many areas of Chinese culture, such as medicine and philosophy,”Zhu Xianghua says, who is the son of the famous Tai Chi master Zhu Tiancai.Although it has spread to more than 150 countries and regions, attracting more than 100 million people to practice, the idea that Tai Chi is for the elderly has stopped many young people practicing the ancient Wushu. They think of it as a slow exercise, which is specially made and better suited for their grandparents. Instead, many young people are turning to the Indian practice of yoga(瑜伽)to relieve stress, which was placed on the UNESCO's List in 2019.In order to promote Tai Chi, joint efforts have been made from individuals and the Chinese government in the last decades. Xi'an Jiaotong University requires students to learn Tai Chi. I began by admitting that I’d never had a social-media account; I then outlined arguments for why other peopleshould consider removing social media from their lives. The event organizers uploaded the video of my talk to YouTube. Then it was shared repeatedly on Facebook and Instagram and, eventually, viewed more than five million times. I was both pleased and annoyed by the fact that my anti-social-media talk had found such a large audience on social media.I think of this event as typical of the love-hate relationships many of us have with Facebook, Instagram, and other social-media platforms. On the one hand, we’ve grown cautious about the so-called attention economy, which, in the name of corporate(公司的) profits, destroys social life gradually and offends privacy. But we also benefit from social media and hesitate to break away from it completely. Not long ago, Imet a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better. In recent months, some of the biggest social-media companies, Facebook and Twitter, in particular, have promised various reforms. In March, Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to move his platform toward private communication protected by end-to-end encryption(端对端加密); later that month, he put forward the establishment of a third-party group to set standards for acceptable content. All of these approaches assume that the reformation of social media will be a complex, lengthy, and gradual process. But not everyone sees it that way. Alongside these official responses, a loose collective of developers that calls itself the IndieWeb has been creating another alternative. They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad. They hope to rebuild social media according to principles that are less corporate and more humane(人道的).12. Why did the author feel annoyed when his video was spread online?A. His video caused many arguments.B. His video was shared without his permission.C. His talk was opposed by a large amount of people.D. His video’s popularity on social media is against his talk.13. Why does the author mention the story of his partner in paragraph 2?A. To prove that social media has some benefits.B. To advise people to break away from social media.C. To tell the negative effects social media may produce.D. To describe people’s complicated relationships with social media.14. What is the purpose of the reform made by some social-media companies?A. To attract more users.B. To improve network environment.C. To make more profits.D. To provide more convenientservice.15. What does the IndieWeb intend to do?A. Develop new social-media platforms.B. Remove social media from people’s lives.C. Improve the existing social-media principles.D. Help social-media companies to make reformation.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Actually, the retail (零售) giant has to draw the line on some products. Here are the items you’ll have to find elsewhere.PetsThankfully, you cannot expect to purchase the family pet on Amazon. Pets, livestock, and marine mammals are strictly prohibited from being sold on the site and with good reason— primarily being that none of these should be kept in a warehouse awaiting an order. If you’re prepared to adopt an animal, one option is to search Petco’s listing of adoptable pets in your area. And, of cours e, rescuing an animal from a local shelter will do a world of good for both your family and its newest member.Lottery (彩票)ticketsMost of us wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to strike it rich, but you’re still going to have to wait in line if you want to score a lottery ticket. On Amazon’s list of prohibited items are lottery tickets. Rules and regulations about selling lotto tickets vary by state and merchants must apply to become a retailer of lottery tickets. For example, the California Lottery asks that potential sellers have more than 200 customers daily, be able to accommodate official lottery equipment, and be in a retail setting like a grocery or gas station, among others.Tobacco .You can find a variety of things for a smoking habit, like ashtrays, pipes, and cigarette paper, on Amazon, but don’t expect to find any actual tobacco products. E-cigarettes, regardless of whether or not they contain nicotine, are also a no-no on the site.
