Working with foreigners

As a graduate of English major, I really appreciate the opportunity to work with foreigners. In the very beginning, I was kind of nervous to talk to them because I was afraid of saying something wrong. As time went by, I got a little familiar with them and I found that they were actually very friendly and nice to people like me. And now, I still work with them, although sometimes we have some cultural differences and hardly understand each other.

First thing first, I would like to talk something about their attitudes towards work. Generally speaking, they are quite dedicated and serious when making decisions. One of my foreign colleagues can sit there all day long focusing on her work. If no one’s interrupting her, she will even not turn around. When making a department decision, they will often hold up a meeting to discuss the details. They usually possess different opinions towards the same thing in comparison with Chinese. They can argue with their boss if they do have a better idea.

Secondly, I want to say something about their personalities. They are friendly actually, and sometimes I consider them as my Chinese friends who’s speaking English. I may not be that qualified as an English major student and I make mistakes, but they never blame me and are willing to teach the things that I don’t know. Besides, like it says, foreigners are very open-minded. So never worry that they will bully you or put a lot of pressure on you. They all have their own unique personalities. Some are serious, some are perky. Some are serious at work and perky in life.

Some Chinese say that it’s difficult to work with foreigners, but I quite enjoy working with them. No much pressure, no stereotype and I hardly feel the hierarchy.
