When I was about five years old. I saw a beautiful rainbow that seemed to be losing itself in a thick wood about half a mile away.“Do you know, Grace.” said my little brother, who was just recovering from a severe illness. “that if we go to the end of the rainbow. we will find precious treasures there?”“Really?” I asked.“Yes.” answered my brother. with a bright smile on his pale face.As simple-minded children, we believed everything that we were told. Without a second thought, we set off toward the wood. I ran so fast that my brother called after me as loudly as he could. Being sure where the rainbow ended. I pushed ahead without waiting for him.But when I reached the edge wood, the end of the rainbow was not there! Instead. I saw it shining down among the trees a little farther off. So on and on I struggled through the thick bushes till I came within the sound of a stream. I reached the bank of the stream, and I could see it a little way off on the other side. I crossed the stream on a fallen tree, and still ran on, though my feet were aching and my knees were shaking. On the way, I met a huge snake, I tried to run away from it as fast as my tired feet could carry me. And in my fright and hurry, I forgot to keep my eyes on the rainbow, and when, at last, I looked for it, it was gone! Even worse, I couldn’t see my brother anywhere in sight. l sat down and burst into tears, for I felt that I had lost all my treasures. I had nothing but muddy feet and a wet and torn dress. He said to his son that he would return home before Bakrid and celebrated the festival. Now came the perfect chance long waited by the first wife. When the man was away, she used her magical power and changed the second wife and son as goats. When Bakrid was approaching, the man returned home, only to find his first wife in the house. He asked her where his son and his second wife were. The first wife lied that his second wife died in some unknown disease and that her son ran away from home and didn't come again. On hearing this, the man became sad but comforted himself that it was God's will.On the day of Bakrid, the Sheik asked his first wife to bring a goat for sacrifice. His first wife brought the second wife who had been changed into a goat. When it came near the man, it started to brush his hand with its tongue. Having learnt the truth, the woman changed the two back to humans, making everyone present shocked, including Sheik.Paragraph 2: So astonished was the man that he couldn't believe his eyes. Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I pete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantageI carried an 85pounder back last year. This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14yearold brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time. With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders. My excitement was shortlived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping to support its weight,I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

The day of the balloon festival, I felt as light as a hot-air balloon. This year I wouldn't just be watching. I'd be riding in Mr. J's truck, following the flight of the balloon and meeting it when it came down.It was a perfect day. Dad and I drove down the road, looped(环状绕行) the lake, and turned into the field that was being used as a parking area. Dad pointed to the lake. "That's where you are to find the crew," he said.We came to a stop and I got out of the car.And then I saw it, a white bird with black stripes, brown head, and skinny legs. It screeched(尖叫) and thrashed(拍打) in the dirt in front of the cars that were driving downhills. Its wings looked broken. Suddenly it shrieked (悲鸣)and flew off.“Dad,” I called, but my father was watching the balloons.“It's a killdeer(北美喧鹆).” I turned to see a silver- haired old woman. “It has a nest here somewhere,” she said. “In the parking area?” I asked. She nodded firmly. “It was a nesting place before it became a parking area. No one told the killdeer about the balloon festival!”“Jack!” Dad called “Isn’t it time you went down to meet Mr. J?”“I have got to go.” I said. But the woman pointed with her walking stick. There, on the ground was a perfect clutch(窝) of speckled eggs, looking like pebbles. They were almost in the path of cars, trucks, motorbikes and stomping feet.Screech! The parent bird was back, its wing all twisted again. “Jack!” Dad called again. “The balloons are ready to launch.”“Dad! I am…” A truck roared over the hill. Brakes screamed dust flew. “What’s the matter?” asked Dad angrily from the truck.注意:续写词数应为150 左右;请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

Normally, Alexander just ignored him, but he couldn't help imagining himself as a member of the choir. In Mr. Robeson/s eyes, it was their firm and joint voice that made them unique and extraordinary. Several minutes later, everyone had a break and it was time for Mr. Robesonto evaluate and choose. Finally Mr. Robeson told Alexander that he made it, not Kevin. As it happened, everyone on the stage was in shock, with doubtful looks on their faces. It was then that Mr. Robeson cleared his throa and made a suitable explanation, disrupting discussion about unfairness. He announced in a powerful voice that Kevin was truly an excellent singer but the true meaning of a choir was team spirit, instead of individualism. Immediately, people came to be aware of what genuinely counted - team and joint efforts. It dawned on both Alexander and kelvin that power came from everyone in the team.第10页共10页didn't look nervous was Kevin. And why should he be? He has performed as a soloist many times. Alexander, on the other hand, had never taken a musical lesson in his life, much less had performed for an audience.Afer a while, the choir director, Mr. Robeson, walked in and told the kids that they were to sing a song individually, sing as a group and answer some questions. Soon the individual test began. When Alexander stood on the stage, he tried to calm down and pretended he was singing in the shower. He felt satisfied when he was done, at least until Kevin's turn came. As Kevin/s confident voice filled the room, Alexander realized that he would never sound that good.Next, Mr.Robeson put the kids into groups of four or five and askedthem to sing together. want to try?” A few excited hands shot up—mine,of course, was not one of them—and Mrs Sather smiled.“We'll talk more about it tomorrow,” she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom. When I was loading up my backpack,Mrs Sather asked me to go to her.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph our lives,we can gain a lot and lose so much. But being honest should always be with us,as honesty is always regarded as a virtue.Every time I talk about the topic, something crowds in my mind as if it had just happened.I was 16 when one morning,Dad told me I could drive him to Mijas and then take the car in a nearby garage to get it serviced. At that time,I had just passed the driving test, and I hardly had a chance to use the car,so I said yes without hesitation.I drove my father to Mijas, promising to pick him up again at 4 pm,then I went to a nearby garage, and put the car in there.Since I had several hours to spare,I decided to go to a movie theater near the garage to see the movie. However,I wasso absorbed in the plot of the movie that I forgot the time. When the last movie finished,I looked at my watch: 6 pm.I was two hours late!I thought my father would be very angry if he knew what I was doing. And he would never let me drive again. So I decided to make up an excuse. Then,I drove to the appointed place,my father was sitting in a corner, waiting patiently.I first apologized for being late, then told him that I wanted to get there as soon as possible, but that something was wrong with some of the main parts of the car.I would never forget the way he looked at me.“I'm very disappointed that you thought you had to lie to me,Jason.” My father looked at me again and said,“When you didn't show up on time,I called the gas station and asked if there was anything wrong. They told me you never picked up the car. So,you see,I know there's nothing wrong with the car at all.”Paragraph 1:A wave of guilt swept over me and I had to admit the fact that I had gone to the movies and that was the real reason why I was late.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph I always prided myself on being a wise shopper and having a good nose for bargains. So when I came across a sporting goods store with a sign “Going Out of Business Sale”, I marched into the crowded store. Up and down the aisles (通道), I wandered, humming to myself and enjoying the energy and excitement of a sale. All of a sudden, there, at the back of the store sat a canoe (轻舟) exactly like my husband’s dream Supremo Numero-Uno,whose picture had been stuck on the bathroom mirror for years. My heart beat wildly. I pushed my way through the crowds, and nearly fell into the canoe looking for the price tag. There it was, with the manufacturer’s suggested price at $6,750 plus tax crossed out and a handwritten TO CLEAR $750 AS IS. Must be a mistake. $6000 off? Salesman. I had to talk to a salesman. I spotted a young fellow with a “Hi. I’m Mathew”. “Mathew. Tell me about this El Supremo canoe. What’s wrong with it? Why is it only $750?”“Oh. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s brand new. We’re closing the store. It’s on clearance like everything else. I’ll go check.” A few minutes later he came back and said, “I’m sorry ma’am. Someone made a mistake on the sale tag. It should be $4,750 fo r the whole package.”I felt tears well up in my eyes. “Oh well”, I said sadly. “Of course, it was too good to be true. This is exactly like my husband’s dreamboat. I guess I started to dream myself when I saw that price tag. He’s going to be 62 years old on Friday. Had to retire early for his health. It’s been hard on just the pension but the stubborn old fool has been saving $10 every week for years to buy one just like this. I promise I won’t buy anything, but it’s just an old man’s silly dream, you kno w. Always said he wanted to fish in a canoe after he retired,” my voice lowered and I turned and walked away.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

Some people are just bound to be failures. That’s the way some adults look at troublesome kids. Maybe you’ve heard the saying. “A bird with a broken wing will never fly as high.” I am sure that T. J. Ware was made to feel this way almost every day at school. At high school, Ware was the most celebrated troublemaker in his town. Teachers would feel uneasy when they saw his name posted on the lists for the next term. Ware was moving on, but certainly not moving up. I met Ware for the first time at a leadership training, a program designed to have students become more involved in their communities. When I showed up to lead their first training, the community leaders gave me this overview of the attending students, “We have a total range of students, from the student body president to T. J. Ware, the boy with the longest arrest record in the history of town.”At the beginning of the training, Ware was standing outside of the circle of students, against the back wall, with that “go ahead, impress me”look on his face. But slowly, the interactive games drew him in. The ice really melted when the groups started building a list of positive and negative things that had occurred at school that year. Ware had some definite thoughts on those situations. The other students in his group welcomed his comments, which made a lot of sense. The next day, Ware was very active in all the activities. By the end of the training, he had joined the Homeless Project team. The other students in the team were impressed with his passionate concern and ideas. They elected him chairman of the team. Most teachers strongly opposed to his being elected chairman, warning the principal that Ware would probably steal half the food. But the principal reminded them that the purpose of the program was to uncover any positive passion that a student had and strengthen its practice until true change could take place. The teachers left the meeting shaking their heads, convinced that failure was approaching.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。
