【用法when, while, as 都可引导时间状语从句。

这几个词都可以表示“当……时候”,当它们引导的从句的谓语动词是延续性的,三个词可以互换。

其中when的用法最广,既可以表示比从句早或晚的动作,也可以表示与从句同时进行的动作,可以指时间点,也可以指时间段;并且它可以与短暂性动词连用。

as 表示与主句同时进行的动作,指时间点时可以与when互换。

侧重主语,从句表示显然的或已知的理由。

as 由于,鉴于。

主从并重。

从句说明原因,主句说明结果。

As it was late, we couldn’t go to the park.
for 因为,由于。

表明附加或推断的理由,引导分句前常有逗号,for 分句不能放句首。

He must be ill, for he didn’t come to school today.
hope & wish
hope表“希望”,后接不定式或从句,都用于实现的可能性很大的希望。

hope to do sh. 或hope that +从句
I hope to go shopping with Jenny this weekend.
I hope that I will go shopping with Jenny tonight.
wish表“希望,但愿”接不定式或接宾语再接不定式,即wish to do sth. 或wish sb. to do sth. 都表示大体上可以实现的. I wish you to finish your work tonight.
wish 也可接从句时,此时表示很难实现或无法实现的愿望,此时从句要用虚拟语气。
