(11)Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: teachers' performances should be evaluated by students rather than by other teachers?

(话题引入+他人观点+明确立场+过渡句)With the remarkable progress of the society, enormous changes have taken place in the field of education. One of the most noticeable changes is that the role of teachers is shifting from an unquestioned authority to an approachable one. Along with this change comes an interesting discussion on whether teachers’ performances should be evaluated by students or by other teachers. Personally speaking, it is more reasonable for teachers’ performances to be assessed by students. My reasons and examples are given bellow.

(主题句+说理论证+细节例子)Firstly, the evaluation given by students effectively prevents teachers from neglecting every student’s needs. It is because evaluation may well be bound up with a teacher’s bonuses, which drives teachers to leave a good impression on students by paying close attention to their requirements. If students play a key role in the evaluation of teachers’ performances, the traditional classroom would take a new look. For example, a teacher will probably turn his serious-looking face into a smiling one, or a teacher will do whatever he can to please his students by lecturing in funny language.中间段2:学生是教师教学的对象,只有学生才能准确地指出教师在授课过程中的问题(主题句+说理论证+细节例子)Secondly, it is students who can precisely point out the real problems of teaching that a teacher has. Just as a person cannot tell what is wrong with his appearance without a mirror, a teacher cannot realize his own weaknesses in lectures without students. The students get involved in the whole process by observing almost every detail of the teacher: the style of dressing, the pace of lecturing, the way of explaining a concept, or even the habits of gestures. If students give the evaluation, the teacher would receive a worthwhile feedback that is conducive to improving the way of teaching.

I think/You should/Why not开头的句子一定要听,因为这可是学生去找老师的目的所在。

It is ok. I really appreciate your help.”

然后给出narrow it down或是focus之类的建议。

(12)Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: all school teachers should be required to take courses every five years to update their knowledge?

(话题引入+他人观点+明确立场+过渡句)The remarkable progress of society is not only reflected in the prosperity of economy, but also in the explosion of information. New concepts and ideas have been emerging one after another, which profoundly influences all walks of life including the field of education. Faced with such a trend, some school authorities require their teachers to take courses every 5 years in order to keep abreast of the times. Personally speaking, I am a big fan of this policy. My reasons and examples are given below.

(主题句+说理论证+细节例子)Firstly, taking courses on a regular basis is conducive to updating teachers’ teaching methodology. Along with the evolution of people’s idea of education comes the constant improvement of the way of education. In the courses, teachers are given the opportunity to learn to employ the new and efficient teaching methodologies. In the past, a good teacher was deemed as someone who could successfully cram the knowledge into the minds of students and help them get a high score in exams. But today, people begin to realize the importance of inspiring students’ potential and motivation, which makes it necessary that teachers transform their teaching methods.

Introduction Paragraph:Say what you are going to say.

Title: Can Teachers Be Friends Too?In the traditional educational setting, the relationship between a teacher and a student is often perceived as one-directional, where the teacher imparts knowledge and the student absorbs it. However, there has been a growing discourse surrounding the possibility of teachers and students forming friendships. This topic sparks debate, as some argue that maintaining a professional boundary is essential for effective teaching, while others believe that cultivating a friendly relationship can enhance the learning experience. In this essay, I will explore both perspectives and offer my own insights. On one hand, proponents of maintaining a strictly professional relationship between teachers and students argue that it is necessary to uphold authority and respect in the classroom. They contend that blurring the linesbetween teacher and friend can lead to a lack of discipline and undermine the teacher's ability to effectively manage the classroom. Additionally, they suggest that students may take advantage of a friendly relationship with their teacher, resulting in a loss of focus on academic goals. However, on the other hand, there are compelling arguments in favor of teachers being able to become friends with their students. Building a positive rapport with students can create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and engaging in discussions. When students perceive their teacher as approachable and understanding, they are more likely to seek help when needed and actively participate in class activities. Moreover, forming friendships with students can provide teachers with valuable insights into their students' interests, strengths, and challenges, enabling them to tailor their teaching methods to better meet individual needs. From my perspective, I believe that the relationship between a teacher and a student can indeed evolve into afriendship, albeit within certain boundaries. While it is essential for teachers to maintain professionalism and uphold authority in the classroom, there is no reason why they cannot also foster genuine connections with their students. By striking a balance between friendliness and professionalism, teachers can create a classroom dynamic that promotes both learning and mutual respect. In my own experience, I have had teachers who successfully navigated the line between mentorship and friendship. These teachers were not only knowledgeable in their subject matter but also empathetic and supportive of their students' personal growth. They were willing tolisten to their students' concerns, offer guidance, and celebrate their achievements, creating a sense of camaraderie within the classroom. In conclusion, while the idea of teachers being friends with their students may challenge traditional notions of the educator-student dynamic, I believe that it is possible and even beneficial when approached with care and respect. By fostering positive relationships with their students, teachers can create an inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and supported in their academic journey. Ultimately, the goal of education is not only to impart knowledge but also to nurture the holistic development of students, and forming friendships can be a valuable aspect of that process.。

In the academic world, relationships between students and teachers are often complex and multifaceted. While most interactions are harmonious and productive, there are instances where conflicts arise. Conflicts can range from minor misunderstandings to severe disputes, but in any case, it is essential to address them effectively. This article explores the reasons behind student-teacher conflicts and suggests strategies for resolving them. One of the primary reasons for conflicts between students and teachers is a mismatch in communication styles. Students and teachers often have different communication preferences, which can lead to misunderstandings and frustrations. For example, some students prefer a directand concise communication style, while teachers mightprefer a more detailed and explanatory approach. When these styles clash, it can create tension and conflict.Another common cause of conflict is a lack of mutual respect. Students and teachers need to respect each other's roles and responsibilities in the academic environment. When students disregard classroom rules or fail to completeassignments, it can lead to conflict. Similarly, when teachers are insensitive to students' needs or fail to provide adequate support, it can also cause conflict. To resolve these conflicts, it is essential toestablish clear lines of communication. Students and teachers should take the initiative to communicate their expectations, preferences, and concerns. Teachers can set clear guidelines for classroom behavior and assignments, while students can express their needs and challenges. By opening up lines of communication, both parties can better understand each other's perspectives and work towards a resolution. In addition to communication, mutual respect is also crucial in resolving conflicts. Students should respect teachers' authority and expertise, while teachers should respect students' individuality and learning styles. By fostering a culture of respect, both parties can work together towards common goals and avoid conflicts in the future. Moreover, it is important to recognize that conflicts are natural and can serve as valuable learning experiences.By reflecting on conflicts and discussing them openly, students and teachers can learn from their mistakes and improve their communication and conflict resolution skills. This process can not only help resolve conflicts but also promote positive relationships and a more harmonious academic environment. In conclusion, conflicts between students and teachers are inevitable in the academic world. However, by establishing clear lines of communication, fostering mutual respect, and treating conflicts as learning opportunities, both parties can effectively resolve them. By doing so,they can create a positive and supportive learning environment that benefits everyone involved.**冲突解决:学生与老师之间的动态关系**在学术领域,学生和老师之间的关系通常是复杂而多元的。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Students are influenced more by their teachers than by their friends.
——2008.11.23
