5. Tom, a college student, has two options about his summer job: to be a lifeguard for a summer camp or to be a salesman for a company. Now he is talking with Alice about which one to take.

A;I haven't seen you for ages.It's nice to see you again,how are you?

T;i’m fine ,thank you .but rencently i have some problems with me.

A;oh ,take it easy,everything will be ok.what happened?

T ; you know,the summer vacation is coming.i have been find an internship.now,i have two options about my summer job: one is to be a lifeguard for a summer camp ,another one is to be a salesman for a company. I don’t know which to choose?could you give some pieces of advice?

A;ah,that sounds great. Congratulations!part -time jobs is not only can broaden the horizon but also can we earn pocket money.T; yeah,i agree with you,that also is my main purpose.but i haven’t made a decision yet.

A;Now the social competition is becoming increasingly fierce, we should enter society and adapt to the society eariler.I think that the job should be concerned with our major, which will be beneficial to our future work. So ,what is your major?

T ; i’m major in marketing management.

A;be a salesman for a company is suitable to your major.why don’t you choose the job of salesman?

T;en,I struggle with this problem. l love smimming and i’m interested in the lifeguard.but my major is marketing management.i don’t konw what to give up.

A; From my point of view I think you should be more realistic.being a lifeguard,you must take many responsibilities.you need to save the drowning man and make artificial breathing in time .besides,you must must hold a lifeguard certificate

T;i haven’t thought of the problems you just said. Indeed.i think i should follow your advice.thank you very much.what about you recently?

A;ou know ,i have graduated from the university from this summer.i have been looking for jobs .

T;oh,I wish you could find a good job

A;thank you ,i also think so.

6.Su san and Kevin are friends. They haven’t seen each other for years. One day, they come across on the road and have a talk about their jobs. Susan is a telephone operator at a company while Kevin is a personal manager. Imagine what they will say and make a dialogue with your partner.

Script:

Do you like your job?

Susan: What’s your job now, Kevin ? Do you still work for that wholly funded American company?

Kevin : No, I left it three years ago. .i’m a personal manager

Susan: Gee, that’s great! How do you feel as a personal manager ?

b: I feel good. I can make a lot more money than before and I have a lot of independence in doing things. But, sometimes I g e[t] tired. As you know, it’s not very easy to be a manager.You know the human resources department looks after personnel, supervising the hiring and firing of employees, and promoting their welfare and role within the company. As a personal manager,you may supervise several smaller departments in a large company, such as recruitment, benefits and training.as a result,i will take more responsibility and more pressure than before. What about you? What are you doing now?

A; I’ve worked for several companies. After graduation, I wen t to a private company. Then a year later, I changed to a chinese-Japanese joint-venture enterprise and worked as a sales assistant. Two years later, I moved on to a computer company and worked in export sales. And now, I’m an telephone operator at a company .

b: Oh, you are a real job-hopper. Why have you changed jobs so often?

a: I’m always interested in new challenges. I know changing jobs frequently can be a waste of a compa ny’s human resources, but I’m gaining a lot of experience! How is your job?Do you like your job?

b: The salary and benefits are Ok, but I don’t like the work conditions. You know, my colleagues go out of their way to get promoted.i work under enormous pressure.Also, I don’t often get an opportunity to go anywhere. I hate staying in the same place all the time.

a: How about your working hours?

B; That’s the trouble. I usually have to work overtime because I often have dinner parties in the evening. I don’t get enough time with my family and baby.

A;compared with you,i have Regular working hours and have more time to take care of my families. But l have a lower salary at the price of that.do you want to change job?

B;now ,i don’t take it into consideration i have to pay back the housing loan and i need this job.
