Meal times: Lunch 12.30pm—1pm Dinner 6pm—8pm
Using a knife and a fork: People usually eat with the knife in the right hand and the fork in the left hand. They cut the food while eating it.
Using your hands: Yes, with bread, cheese, cake, fruit and chocolate.
Starting a meal: When everyone has sat down and been served / served themselves with food. Making a toast:When there are guests or there is cause for celebration, people say “Cheers!” Finishing a meal: When people start to refuse anything else to drink.
3. China
Meal times: Lunch 11.30am—12.30pm Dinner 5.30pm—7.30pm Using a knife and a fork: No, people eat with chopsticks. Usually in the right hand. A spoon is used for soup and desert.
Using your hands: Yes, with steamed buns, pancake and fruit.
Starting a meal:When everyone has sat down and all dishes have been served in a formal situation. People start to eat as soon as a dish is served in an informal situation.
Making a toast:When there are visitors or some good news, people say “Bottom up” Finishing a meal: When people put their chopsticks or on the spoons on the table.
