⽜津版⾼⼀英语必修3Unit 1练习试题及答案(2) Ⅲ.阅读理解(共15⼩题;每⼩题2分,满分30分) A My dad was in the hospital battling a serious disease when he was rushed to the operating room. After a hurried talk with Dad's doctors,Mother told my sister and me the worst. Throughout my childhood,my father had survived many serious medical problems, including a heart attack and cancer. He'd seen the four walls of the hospital room more times than anyone should have to.“Lord,” I prayed,“please save him.We can't live without him.” Dad pulled through. As soon as he felt better,he told us something amazing about that day in the operating room. “I was scared.I knew I was dying,”he said.“I moved my head to one side and watched the nurses preparing for the operation.Beyond them I saw a large window which was open.Out of it was a lighted cross. My eyes were fixed upon it.My fears died out.I had the strength to beat the disease and I believed my operation would be successful. The operation started, and then I didn't know anything.” Dad recovered fully and several months later he went to call on a friend at the same hospital. There he looked around for the cross he'd seen.He couldn't find it.He ran into one of the nurses who had taken care of him.“Can I take a quick look at the operating room where I had my operation?” he asked. The room was free so she took him in.My father was very surprised. There were no windows in the room, and the four walls were solid through and through. Why did he see the cross? It was really amazing, but I think he must have had hallucinations (幻觉)at that time. 36.After talking with the doctors, the author's mother ________. A.thought her husband would probably die B.rushed to the operating room C.encouraged the author to stay positive D.didn't know what to do at all 37.From the passage we learn that the author's father ________. A.always had bad luck B.had many good friends C.often suffered from bad health D.lived a very long life 38.The author's father believed his operation would be successful because ________. A.the doctors were excellent and tried their best B.the cross he saw gave him confidence C.his family members encouraged him D.he had recovered from many diseases 39.After recovery, the author's father went to the hospital mainly to ________.A.see the crossB.talk with the nurseC.see the doctorD.visit his friend B This is the story of my dog called Shandy. He was my favorite pet and he was very lively. His main passion in life was to be taken for a long walk, ending with a big run out in his favorite park. I would try to take him on this walk every day, weather permitting. The park itself was about three miles away from our house. To reach the park we had to cross a number of busy roads, and he would never pull or misbehave. He knew where we were heading and seemingly did not want to risk being taken home before he reached his dream destination. But because of my work I had to rent a flat near the coast in Devon. It was nearly a hundred miles away from my home. This obviously meant I was no longer in the position to take Shandy on his walk.I spoke to my parents, who comforted me that they would continue to take him on the walks. Two weeks after I had left,I had a phone call from my mother. She was panicking(惊慌),saying that Shandy had managed to escape from the back garden and that she could not find him.She insisted that she had been looking for hours but that there had been no sign of him.I was quite worried and thought about where he might have gone,“Have you been taking him on his walks to the park every day?”I asked. She replied,“Most days.”I asked her to try at the park.“He would not be there;it's miles away,”she said.I again asked her to try there because running in the park was his habit.Luckily he was there quite happily sniffing(闻) around, unaware of the panic(恐慌) he had caused. 40.The author left the dog home because ________. A.his dog didn't want to go with him B.Devon didn't have a park C.it was not convenient for him to take his dog D.he feared that his mother would feel lonely 41.From the mother's answer on the phone,we can infer that ________. D.Though the park was a little far away from home, the author and Shandy went to the park every day if the weather permitted. C A holiday is any day when people lay aside their ordinary duties and cares. The word comes from Old English. At first, holidays honored some holy events or persons.People in Great Britain and other countries speak of holidays as Americans speak of vacations. Every nation has its special holidays.China observes_New Year's Day (January 1),May Day and National Day as legal (法定的) holidays,as it was on Oct.1,1949 that People's Republic of China was founded. The Chinese have long celebrated the Chinese lunar year.In the United States, congress has declared several as legal days such as New Year's Day (January 1),Martin Luther King,Jr.'s Birthday,Washington's Birthday,Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day and so on.Some holidays celebrate special events in the development of a country, such as Greece's Independence Day,Italy's Liberation Day and India's Independence Day. In the United States, banks and schools usually close on a legal holiday. When such a holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday is usually observed.Schools and organizations often observe daysknown as traditional holidays, although schools and business do not close then. Those holidays include Valentine's Day and Halloween. 44.Which of the following holidays has nothing to do with a country's development? A.Sunday B.the following Sunday C.the following Monday D.the following Tuesday D Everything we know about the world comes to us through our senses.Traditionally,we were thought to have just five of them-sight,hearing,touch,smell,and taste. Although we pay little attention to them, each of these senses is precious and almost irreplaceable-as we discover,to our sorrow,if we lose one.People usually fear blindness above all other disabilities.Yet deafness can be an even more severe handicap, especially in early life, when children learn language. This is why Helen Keller's achievements were so extraordinary. As a result of an illness at the age of 19 months, she lost both sight and hearing and sank into a totally dark, silent world. She was rescued from this terrible separation by her teacher,Anne Sullivan, who managed to explain,by tapping signs into the little girl's palm, that things have names, that letters make up words, and that these can be used to express wants or ideas. Helen Keller later grew into a writer and a wellknown advocate for the handicapped. Her remarkable development owed a great deal to her determination, her teacher, and her family. But it also showed that when a sense(or two,in Helen Keller's case)is missing, another sense(in her case, touch) may be trained to make up for the loss,at least in part. Our nervous system reacts only to a selected range of wavelengths, vibrations,or other properties. It is limited by our genes,as well as our previous experience and our present state of attention. What draws our attention,in many cases,is change. Our senses are finely adjusted to change.Stationary or unchanging objects become part of the scenery and are mostly ual sounds become background noise, mostly unheard. The feel of a sweater against our skin is soon unnoticed. If something in the environment changes,we need to take notice because it might mean danger—or opportunity.Suppose an insect lands on your leg, instantly the touch receptors on the affected leg fire a message that travels up to your brain. There it crosses into the opposite hemisphere(the right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body, and vice versa)to alert brain cells at a particular spot on a sensory map of the body. 48.The author refers to Helen Keller in order to ________. A.prove deafness is a more severe handicap than others B.encourage deaf people to learn from her C.show it is important to learn language in early life D.suggest hearing is precious and irreplaceable 49.Which of the following will draw our attention according to the passage? A.A sweater against your skin when you are working. B.Noise of the air conditioner when you are doing your homework. C.A sudden quake of the room. D.A sleeping cat in your sofa. 50.The underlined word “stationary” in Paragraph 6 means ________.A.changingB.stillC.activeD.quiet Ⅳ.任务型阅读(共10⼩题;每⼩题1分,满分10分) 请认真阅读下列短⽂,并根据所读内容在⽂章后表格中的空格⾥填⼊⼀个最恰当的单词。

There is, however, one thing that stops all conversation and prevents anyone from having attention:"When the TV is on."Lewis says.“Dinner is a non-event.”46.The writer's purpose in writing the text is to ___________.A.show the relationship between parents and childrenB.teach parents ways to keep order at the dinner tableC.report on the findings of a studyD.give information about family problems47.Parents with large families ask fewer questions at dinner because _____________.A.they are busy serving food to their childrenB.they are busy keeping order at the dinner tableC.they have to pay more attention to younger childrenD.they are tired out having prepared food for the whole family48.By saying“Middle children are invisible”in Paragraph 3, Lewis means that middle children ____________.A.have to help their parents to serve dinnerB.get the least attention from the familyC.are often kept away from the dinner tableD.find it hard to keep up with other children49.Lewis' research provides an answer to the question __________.A.why TV is important in family lifeB.why parents should keep good orderC.why children in small families seem to be quieterD. why middle children seem to have more difficulties in life50.Which of the following statements would the writer agree?A.It is important to have the right food for children.B.It is a good idea to have the TV on during dinner.C.Parents should talk to each of their children frequently.D.Elder children should help the younger ones at dinner.BIn the fall of 1992,when Vickie was ten,she and her father,Jim, just happened to notice an advertisement for a new flight school. Her father suggested to her that since she wanted to be an astronaut, she might want to take a flying lesson, just see if she liked it.She was excited.Vickie continued with her flying lessons. She was so brave that she impressed her teacher and soon passed ground school with straight As. Although many people see this as a successful attempt to bring people closer to the computer, David does not see it that way.He says that Computertown UK was formed for just the opposite reason,to bring computers to people and make them "people-literate".David Tebbutt thinks Computertowns are most successful when tied to a computer club but he insists there is an important difference between the two.The clubs are for people who have some computer knowledge already. This frightens away non-experts, who are happier going to Computertowns where there are computers for them to experiment on, with experts to encourage them and answer any questions they have. They are not told what to do.They find out.The computer experts have to learn not to tell people about computers, but have to be able to answer all questions people ask.People don't have to learn computer terms, but the experts have to explain in plain language. The computers are becoming"people-literate”.61.Which of the following is David Tebbutt's idea on the relationship between people and computers?puter learning should be made easier.B.There should be more computer clubs for experts.C.People should work harder to master computer use.puters should be made cheaper so that people can afford them.62.We can infer from the text that"computerliterate”means __________.A.being able to afford a computerB.being able to write computer programsC.working with the computer and finding out its value.D.understanding the computer and knowing how to use it.63.The underlined word"it”in the second paragraph refers to the idea that Computertowns _____________.A.help to set up more computer clubsB.bring people to learn to use computersC.bring more experts to work togetherD.help to sell computers to the public64.David Tebbutt started Computertown UK with the purpose of____________.A.making better use of computer expertsB.improving computer programsC.increasing computer salesD.popularizing computer65.Which of the following is true?A.All the experts agree computer-literate.puters should be made cheaper so that people can afford them.C.David Tebbutt is a pioneer who agrees that we need make computerpeople-literate.D.None of the above.四、阅读表达I attended a birthday party in 1991.My teacher said that we were celebrating her39th birthday! We were all surprised and puzzled. After the party I was told by the fellow teacher that American women have a special saying about birthdays. If a woman is over 40, or even if she is 80, her birthday is always the 39th.If she is in her thirties, her birthday will be the 29th.And in hertwenties.it's the 19th.They usually have their"real”birthday when they are below 20.This shows that American women, especially elderly women, are very sensitive(敏感的)about their ages. But my teacher always says, "We want to be younger,"so about the age of Western women, my advice is that if you don't know it,don't ask about it; if you really know it,don't mention it.66.How did the writer feel the birthday party he attended?67.Where does the writer may come from?68.What can you say to her in order to please an old westernwoman?69.W hat does the writer want to tell us?70.Why did her fellow teacher said that they were celebrating her 39th birthday?答案一、单选1-5 ADBAA 6-10 BBDCC 11-15 ACDCA二、完形填空16-20 DACCB 21-25 BCAAD 26-30 ACBDB 31-35 BCDDA三、语法填空36.because 37.and 38.work 39.dangerous 40.too 41.Have 42.the 43.with44.second 45.there四、阅读理解66-70 CBBDC 71-75 ADDAC 76-80ADDCB 81-85 ADBDC五、阅读表达66. But the technology has grown so powerful that even some of the biggest websites in the US don’t know that they were installing intrusive files on visitors’ puters. These include MSN. and Yahoo. .Next time you visit a webpage and find an ad banner advertising something you’ve been pla nning to buy, don’t be amazed that your puter can read your mind. 1.The purpose of the passage is to ______.A.introduce a tiny file in a puter—a single codeB.show how your individual information was let out when you surf the Internet C.show how to protect your privacyD.introduce a sophisticated software called a “beacon”2.It can be inferred that ________.A.because the data is used harmlessly, Internet users around the world will not face threatsB.when a person surfs the Internet, his personal details may be let out without his knowledgeC.your puter can really read your mindD.MSN. and Yahoo. use software to capture what people are typing on a website 3.According to the passage, “beacon” _________.A.is a tiny text file put on your PC by websitesB.is a software that can package that data into profiles about individuals C.can assess the Internet user’s location, ine, shopping interests and even medical conditionsD.is not more plex than the “cookie”4.What’s the writer’s attitude to this pro blem?A.Neutral. B.Worried.C.Optimistic. D.Indifferent.(B)[xx南京模拟]I think it was my mother who taught me the meaning of honesty. Not because she actually was honest, but because she lied all the time. She felt that the easiest way out of any given situation was generally the best way out. And, for her, that generally meant telling “a little white lie”. As a young child I thought it was kind of cool. And, naturally, when I would e to her with a concern or question wondering what I should do, she generally advised me to lie.“Mom, I told Theresa that I would go over to her house, but now I would rather go to Sue’s house to play. ”“Tell Theresa you’re sick,”she would advise. And generally I did. But I didn’t seem blessed with her lack of conscience. On many painful occasions Theresa would find out that I really went to Sue’s house without her. These occasions taught me that it is more painful to be caught in a lie than it is to tell the truth in the first place. I wondered how it was possible that my mother had never learned that lesson.I started thinking of all the lies that I’d heard her tell. I remembered the time she told someone that her favorite restaurant had closed, because she didn’t want to see them there anymore. Or the time she told Dad that she loved the lawnmower(割草机) he gave her for her birthday. Or when she claimed that our phone lines had beendown when she was trying to explain why she hadn’t been in touch with a friend of hers for weeks. And what bothered me even more was all the times she had involved me into her lies. Like the time she told my guidance counselor(顾问) that I had to miss school for exploratory surgery, when she really needed me to babysit. And it even started to bother me when some people would call for her and she would ask me to tell them that she wasn’t there. So, I started my own personal fight against her dishonesty. When I answered the phone and it was someone my mother didn’t want to talk to, I said, “Louise, mom is here, but she doesn’t want to talk to you. ” The first time I did it, she punished me, but I refused to apologize. I told her that I had decided that it was wrong to lie. And the next time it happened I did the same thing. Finally, she approached me and said, “I agree that l ying is not the best thing to do, but we need to find a way to be honest without being rude. ” She admitted that her methods weren’t right, and I admitted that mine were a bit too extreme.Over the past few years, the two of us have worked together to be honest—and yet kind. Honesty should mean more than not lying. It should mean speaking the truth in kindness. Though I started by trying to teach my mom the importance of honesty,I ended up gaining a deeper understanding of the meaning of the term.5. But a new study out from the journal Scientific Reportssays that this is not just a skill that humans possess. Even fish can do it.Following up on research studying different species’ abilities to recognize human faces (sheep, dogs, cows, horses, and-birds have all been tried), the researchers from the University of Oxford and the University of Queensland decided to pick an animal that does not have an evolved neocortex, the part of the brain that processes sight and sounds, and does not have a close relationship with humans. That way, there would be no reason why these test subjects would have a past history of identifying human faces. So they picked the archerfish, a reef fish variety that shoots water into the air to knock its prey out of the sky. They used this adaptation to have the fish spray water at a face on a monitor hanging over their tanks for a reward. Most of the fish were able to pick out their learned face, even when colors were taken away or methods were used to make the face shapes unclear. This study gives more backing to the hypothesis that differentiating between faces is not just a skill that big -brained organisms are born with. It is possible that a good portion of recognizing faces is learned over time. The development of the neocortex may contribute only to quickly process a large number of faces in varying situations. But more work needs to be conducted to find a deeper link to this possible learned behavior. The sample size of this study was very small—only eight fish were used altogether. Also, the faces displayed on the monitor were only white, female faces from a German database, shown in a frontal view, with no expressions. Other animal trials have shown that some species, like pigeons, respond more to differing angles and varied expressions.24.What is the purpose of this passage?A.To improve a scientific experiment design. B.To present the differences between species.C.To clarify how animals tell human faces apart. D.To show animals can recognize human faces.25.Why were the archerfish chosen as test subjects?A.They are cleverer than other species. B.They have sharp vision and hearing. C.They aren’t c losely related to humans. D.They have a past history of identifying human faces.26.What is the author’s attitude toward the study?A.Cautious. B.Negative.C.Consistent. D.Sympathetic.27.Which of the following is suggested for similar studies in the future?A.Including more test subjects. B.Enlarging the human faces. C.Employing more male researchers. D.Using black-and-white pictures.CAt 5:13 on the morning of April 18th 1906, the city of San Francisco was shaken by a terrible earthquake. A great part of the city was destroyed and a large number of buildings were burnt. The number of people who lost homes reached as many as 250, 000. About 700 people died in the earthquake and the fires.Another earthquake shook San Francisco on October 17th, 1989. It was America’s second strongest earthquake and about 100 people were killed. It happened in the evening as people were travelling home. A wide and busy road which was built like a bridge over another road fell onto the one below. Many people were killed in their cars, but a few lucky ones were not hurt.Luckily the 1989 earthquake did not happen in the centre of town but about 50 kilometres away. In one part of the town a great many buildings were destroyed. These buildings were over 50 years old, so they were not strong enough. There were a lot of fires all over the city. The electricity was cut off for several days too.Why do earthquakes happen? Scientists explain that the outside of the earth is made of a number of different plates. At San Francisco the Pacific plate which is moving towards the northwest meets the North American plate. The Pacific plate is moving very slowly—at 5.3 centimetres a year. Sometimes these two plates stop and do not move for years. Then suddenly, they jump and an earthquake is felt. As a result of the movement of these plates, west America near the sea has always been a bad place for earthquakes. When the 1906 earthquake happened, the Pacific plate jumped 5-6 metres to the north.Scientists are afraid that one day an even bigger earthquake will hit the area around San Francisco. They call it “The Big One”. However, people today are still building more houses. The population in and around San Francisco is now ten times more than it was in 1906. This means that if there is another big earthquake, a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.28.Fewer people were killed in the 1989 San Francisco earthquake because the earthquake happened_______.A.in the centre of the city B.in the daytimeC.outside the city D.in the evening29.Which might be the worst earthquake in the history of the USA according to the passage? A.The 1906 earthquake. B.The 1976 earthquake.C.The 1989 earthquake. D.Both A and C.30.Why do earthquake happen?A.Because the surface of the earth is too thin.B.Because some plates of the earth move suddenly.C.Because the houses built on the earth are not strong.D.Because the plates are moving slowly.31.What should we do about the earthquake?A.We should learn how to predict earthquakes and stop them.B.We should stop building new houses.C.We should build strong buildings in the right places.D.We should try our best to stop earthquakes.32.What does the underlined word “one” in the second paragraph refer to?A.Bridge. B.Road.C.Car. D.Street.DAn Australian professor is developing a robot to monitor the health of grazing cattle, a development that could bring big changes to a profession that's relied largely on a low-tech approach for decades but is facing a labor shortage.Salah Sukkarieh, a professor at the University of Sydney, sees robots as necessary given how cattlemen are aging. He is building a four-wheeled robot that will run on solar and electric power. It will use cameras and sensors to monitor the animals. A computer system will analyze the video to determine whether a cow is sick. Radio tags (标签) on the animals will measure temperature changes. The quality of grassland will be tracked by monitoring the shape, color and texture (质地) of grass. That way, cattlemen will know whether they need to move their cattle to another field for nutrition purposes.Machines have largely taken over planting, watering and harvesting crops such as com and wheat, but the monitoring of cattle has gone through fewer changes. For Texas cattleman Pete Bonds, it's increasingly difficult to find workers interested in watching cattle. But Bonds doesn't believe a robot is right for the job. Years of experience inthe industry - and failed attempts to use technology - have convinced him that the best way to check cattle is with a man on a horse. Bonds, who bought his first cattle almost 50 years ago, still has each of his cowboys inspect 300 or 400 cattle daily and look for signs that an animal is getting sick.Other cattlemen see more promise in robots. Michael Kelsey Paris, vice president of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, said a robot could be extremely useful given rising concerns about cattle theft. Cattle tend to be kept in remote places and their value has risen, making them appealing targets.33.What is a problem with the cattle-raising industry?A.Soil pollution. B.Lack of workers.C.Aging machines. D.Low profitability.34.What will Sukkarieh's robot be able to do?A.Monitor the quality of grass. B.Cure the diseased cattle.C.Move cattle to another field. D.Predict weather changes.35.Why does Pete Bonds still hire cowboys to watch cattle?A.He wants to help them earn a living. B.He thinks men can do the job better. C.He is inexperienced in using robots. D.He enjoys the traditional way of life. 36.How may robots help with cattle watching according to Michael Kelsey? A.Increase the value of cattle. B.Bring down the cost of labor. C.Make the job more appealing. D.Keep cattle from being stolen.三、七选五If the only reading you ever do is the novel or magazine, the speed at which you read-probably does not matter very much. A quiet man, he didn't understand my world of school activities. From age 14, he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.I didn't really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and I thought that I would surpass (超过) anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone (长号).The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed which we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs,lamb's-quarters, foxtails, and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn't sure how much it would amount to.At home, my dad said, "A job's a big step to growing up. I'm glad you will be contributing to the household." My dad's words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished. My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn't interested. I decided it was not fair that I had to contribute my money.注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

任务型读写专练AAristotle once wrote that “happiness is a state of activity”.In other words, whether you’re seeking life-long satisfaction or a few moments of good cheer, you’ve got to move forward. We’ve interviewed the experts and found five steps to take toward a sunny mood(心情):Over a 30-year period,University of Illinois researchers asked nearly 120,000 people how income, education, political participation, volunteer activities and close relationships affected their happiness.Reported Ne w s w eek’s Sharon Begley on the findings,“The highest levels of happiness are found with the most stable and satisfying relationships.”Singing aloud, talking to a stranger, raising your hand: all may increase a feeling of happiness, according to a study from Wake Forest University.Participants(参与者) followed the development of their moods for two weeks and reported feeling happier when they were more outgoing and less happy when reserved or withdrawn. The editors of gave $5 or $20 to 46 strangers by chance.Half the group was told to spend the money on themselves, while the other half was told to spend it on others. Those who’d shared the wealth felt much happier at the end of the day than those who’d spent it on themselves. There was no difference in happiness between those who spent $5 or $20,suggesting that it’s not how much money you spend, but how you spend it,that inspires the spirit.Studies from the Positive Psychology Center showed that discouraged people who wrote down three good things that happened to them each day for six months reported an improved attitude.Drinking water really can help keep you cheerful.A small 2012 study from the University of Connecticut suggested that even slight dehydration(脱水) affected the moods of its female participants.Quiet Virtue:The ConscientiousThe everyday signs of conscientiousness(认真尽责)—being punctual, careful in doing work,self-disciplined,and scrupulous(一丝不苟的)in attending to responsibilities—are typical characteristics of the model organizational citizen, the people who keep things running as they should. They follow the rules, help out,and are concerned about the people they work with. It’s the conscientious worker who helps newcomers or updates people who return after an absence, who gets to work on time and never abuses sick leaves, who always gets things done on deadline.Conscientiousness is a key to success in any field. In studies of job performance, outstanding effectiveness for almost all jobs, from semi-skilled labor to sales and management, depends on conscientiousness. It is particularly important for outstanding performance in jobs at the lower levels of an organization:the secretary whose message taking is perfect, the delivery truck driver who is always on time.Among sales representatives for a large American car manufacturer, those who were most conscientious had the largest volume of sales.Conscientiousness also offers a buffer(缓冲)against the threat of job loss in today’s constantly changing market, because employees with this quality are among the most valued. For the sales representatives, their level of conscientiousness mattered almost as much as their sales in determining who stayed on.There is an air around highly conscientious people that makes them seem even better than they actually are.Their reputation for dependability influences managers’ evaluations of their work, giving them higher evaluations than objective measures of their performance would predict. But conscientiousness in the absence of social skills can lead to problems.Since conscientious people demand so much of themselves, they can hold other people to their own standards, and so be overly judgmental when others don’t show the same high levels of model behavior.Factory workers in Great Britain and the United States who were extremely conscientious, for example, tended to criticizeco-workers even about failures that seemed unimportant to those they criticized, which damaged their relationships. When conscientiousness takes the form of living up to expectations,it can discourage creativity. In creative professions like art or advertising, openness to wild ideas and spontaneity(自发性)are scarce andin demand.Success in such occupations calls for a balance, however;without enough conscientiousness to follow through, people become mere dreamers, with nothing to show for their imaginativeness.CMany students eat their breakfasts on the way to school or in the dining room. But some of them don’t really know how to eat well when eating out. Here is some important advice. The first is to eat less fast food. The most obvious harm of eating too much fast food is weight gaining because of too much fat.Young people and adults are at risk of disease related to weight.Too much fast food can drag your body down.French fries, for example, were recently found to contain much more acrylamide(丙烯酰胺) than other food. This may cause cancer.Actually,deep-fried food all contains acrylamide. So don’t eat it too often.Soda is another thing you should watch out for.Cokes and other sodas contain a lot of sugar and can slow down a person’s calcium absorption,so it’s best to drink as little soda as possible.Food in the dining room may not be as tasty as fast food, but it’s actually easier to make healthy choices.Human bodies need variety. You can have a dinner that balances lean proteins, vitamins and complex carbohydrates(碳水化合物).In other words,a meal with fish or meat, vegetables and some bread or rice will provide you with most nutrients that the body needs. Some snacks,on the other hand, will help keep you going until your next big meal.It is natural for teenagers, especially boys,to feel hungry during school time.Don’t forget to take some foods, like whole-grain biscuits or low-fat milk in your school bag.Title:Advice on 1.________People can be addicted to(沉溺于) different things ,e.g.alcohol ,drug ,certain food ,or even television.People who have such an addiction are compulsive(强迫的):they have a very powerful psychological need that they feel they must satisfy.According to psychologists ,many people are compulsive spenders. They feel that they must spend money. This compulsion ,like most others ,is impossible to explain reasonably. For compulsive spenders who buy on credit(以赊欠方式),charge accounts are even more exciting than money. In other words ,compulsive spenders feel that with credit ,they can do anything.Their pleasure in spending large amounts is actually greater than the pleasure that they get from the things they buy. There is even a special psychology(心理学) of bargain hunting. To save money ,of course ,most people look for sales ,low prices ,and pulsive bargain hunters ,however ,often buy things that they don ’t need just because they are cheap. They want to believe that they are helping theirbudgets(预算),but they are really playing an exciting game. When they can buy something for less than other people ,they feel that they are winning. Most people ,experts claim ,have two reasons for their behaviour :a good reason for things that they do and the real reason. It is not only scientists ,of course ,who understand the psychology of spending habits ,but also business people.Stores ,companies ,and advertisers use psychology to increase business. They consider people ’s needs for love ,power ,or influence ,their basic values ,their beliefs and opinions ,and so on in their advertising and sales methods.Psychologists often use a method called “behaviour therapy(疗法)” to help individuals solve their personality problems. In the same way ,they can help people who feel that they have problems with money.Title :The Psychology of MoneyA conflict at work is common. If you can avoid conflict ,it means you will win what you wantregardless of what the other person wants.Since the potential issue has not been removed ,it will simply reappear later.Let ’s see what you can do.★Be aware of the fact that some conflicts are unavoidable at work.On numerous occasions ,conflict and disagreement are likely to happen. But when a conflict happens it ’s not the end of the world. On the contrary ,it can be the beginning of an interesting learning process.Conflicts mean that people care enough to disagree strongly. The trick is not to allow the conflict to go on forever.★Deal with conflicts sooner rather than later.Solve a conflict when it starts ,as it only gets worse with time going by.Conflicts at work arise not from something that was said ,but from something that wasn ’t said!Everyone ’s waiting for the other to admit he ’s wrong and gets more unpleasant after the conflict has lasted a while. It ’s essential to interrupt the “waiting game ” before it gets to that point.★Ask nicely. If somebody has done something that made you angry ,or if you don ’t understand their viewpoint or actions ,simply asking nicely about it can make a world of difference.Never assume that people do what they do to annoy or hurt you.Sometimes there ’s a good reason why that person doeswhat he or she does ,and a potential conflict disappears right there.Do remember to make an inquiry ,not an accusation of any sort.★Appreciate.Praise the other part in the conflict.Tell them why it ’s worth it to you to solve the conflict. This can be difficult as few people find it easy to praise and appreciate a person they disagree strongly with ,but it ’s a great way to move forward.答案A1.Look(ing)/Search(ing)/Seek(ing) 2.forward/ahead/on 3.experts/researchers 4.steps/ways 5.greatest 6.Express7.sharing8.Focus/Concentrate9.feeling/mood/sense10.these/those B1.strict
