Teaching Objective:

1.To master the main idea of the text.

2.To let the students know how to do first aid.

3.To effectively train students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading

and writing.

Difficulties and Emphasis:

1.To learn the details of the text and have a further understanding of

the text.

2.To discuss and demonstrate how to do first aid.

Teaching Aids:

a computer, a projector, a tape recorder, a tape.

Teaching Procedure:

Step I Lead-in

Raise a question: What’s the most valuable thing in your opinion?

Step II Revision

Review the words while look at the pictures. Choose one word to

describe one picture.

Step III Pre-reading

Raise three questions before listen to the tape:

1. What’re the conception & goal of first aid?

2. What’re the three important things to do in case of an accident?

3. What’s the advice for dealing with common injuries?

Step IV Reading

Listen to the tape, and get further into the text to answer the three questions above.

1.Conception: the aid that can be given to a sick or an injured person before any other help arrives.

Goal: To prevent death and to prevent injures from becoming worse.

2.Explain and demonstrate the three important things in case of an accident. Then give the key words to let students retell.

a. check…, open… and make sure…

b. start… at once

use the mouth-to-mouth way: lay, close, breathe, repeat

c. stop…：press, hold, hold up

3.Go further into Part3 through some questions and illustrations.

Q1: How to deal with a simple cut?(A)

A. Wash the area of the cut, dry it and cover it with a piece of dry clean

cloth.

B. Run to find help.

C. Do nothing. Just send him to hospital at once.

Q2: How to deal with burns and scalds?(A)

A. put in cold water to cool the area of skin at once.

B. put some oil or ointment on it

Q3: How to deal with animal bites?

If bitten by a dog, wash the bite under cold running water and bandage it. See a doctor as soon as possible.

If bitten by a snake, go to a doctor at once. Describe what kind of snake it was.

Step V Consolidation

Introduce first-aid kit and let student deal with fracture through a flash.

Step VI Group work

Suppose you are making a TV program. Some experts are invited to introduce first aid.

Scene 1: If someone has been hurt in a accident, ……

Scene2: If someone has been burned in kitchen, ……

Scene3:If someone has been bitten by a dog, ……

Scene4: If someone has drowned, ……
