Xi’an International University(XAIU) is a private institution of higher learning accredited by China’s Ministry of Education to deliver four--year undergraduate education.

西安外事学院是一所以培养应用型人才为主的民办普通本科院校。 XAIU came into being with the trend of the times, grew with the favorable reform and opening--up climate and attained its present stature with striving and pioneering spirit. With perseverance and painstaking efforts since 1992 the University has traveled a path of historic significance. Starting from scratch, it grew big from small; from offering assistance in self-taught courses to conducting vocational training and to operating as a full-fledged institution of higher learning with baccalaureate programs.

XAIU is located in the High-Tech Zone of Xi’an, right on the site of the ancient town of Yuhua which features the remains of the Yangshao Culture during the Neolithic Age. Legend has it that the King of Wu of the Western Zhou dynasty(1046-771 B.C.) brought his daughter Princess Yuhua (Rain Flower) here for an outing. Enchanted by the breathtaking scenery and saintly surroundings the King of Wu ordained that an imperial palace be built for the princess on the site. With an altar added in order to pray for rain from Heaven

the palace came to be called Yuhua Castle. Beginning in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.) scholars on their journey to the imperial examination in China’s ancient capital Chang’an would stop at Yuhua Castle and pray for good luck so that they could have good fortune, become successful in the examination and change their lives. This was a success story, an allegory that little fish (the on-route imperial examinees) can become dragons (high-ranking government officials). Thereupon, the town changed its name from Yuhua (rain flower) to Yu Hua Long (fish becoming dragons) with “rain”and “fish” homophonic in Chinese. Huang Teng, founder of XAIU and Chairman of its Board of Directors, wrote with a masterful stroke of pen the following words and accordingly called upon the faculty and students to “take root in Yu Hua, commit to Yu Hua and live up to the Yu Hua Long spirit.” This integrates most coherently the culture characteristic of Yu Hua Long with Huang’s vision for the University, making the XAIU culture more distinct. Thereafter, the University motto and anthem were inaugurated.

学校地处西安高新产业开发区，具体位置在仰韶文化遗址上的千年古镇鱼化寨。传说当年周武王携其女雨花公主来游，见此地风光宜人，有贤人之气，遂为公主在此建一御花园，并筑台祭天因得名雨花寨。自唐始，凡赴长安赶考之书生，多在此羁留祈天讨吉利，以求鱼跃龙门，金榜题名，化鱼成龙。“雨花”遂被改为“鱼化”，取鱼龙变化之意。学院董事长黄藤神思妙笔，题写下“处鱼化龙之地，为鱼化龙之事，寄鱼化龙之望”18个字，使自己的办学理念与鱼化地区独特地域文化浑然天成，融为一体，为外事学院注入了个性鲜明的文化血浆。“多元集纳、自强创新”的校训和《鱼化龙之歌》的校歌也随之诞生，形成了学校特有的鱼化龙文化精神。
