Ideal love is fostered only between two sincere, mature and independent Байду номын сангаасeople. It is the inner struggle to polish these attributes that is the key. ... Real love is not two people clinging to each other; it can only be fostered between two strong people secure in their individuality.
If you are neglecting things you should be doing, forgetting your purpose in life because of the relationship you're in, then you're on the wrong path. A healthy relationship is one in which two people encourage each other to reach their respective goals while sharing each other's hopes and dreams. A relationship should be a source of inspiration, invigoration and hope.

Unit 7The ChaserJohn Henry Collier1 Alan Austen, as nervous as a kitten, went up certain dark and creaky stairs in the neighborhood of Pell Street, and peered about for a long time on the dim hallway before he found the name he wanted written obscurely on one of the doors。
2 He pushed open this door, as he had been told to do, and found himself in a tiny room, which contained no furniture but a plain kitchen table, a rocking—chair, and an ordinary chair。
On one of the dirty buff—coloured walls were a couple of shelves, containing in all perhaps a dozen bottles and jars.3 An old man sat in the rocking—chair, reading a newspaper. Alan, without a word, handed him the card he had been given。

• Collier also uses symbolism, tone and setting to mold an evil and twisted tale. The irony that Collier uses in "The Chaser" can be identified by most critics as situational irony(情境讽刺 ). This is a form that a majority of authors tend to shy away from. It is obvious to even the untrained eye that situational irony involves the characters and the situation that they are in. For example, when the old man says: "Please a customer with one article, and he will come back when he needs another,"(Collier 1), the reader can find it ironic how he is already enticing (persuading) young Alan Austen to return and buy the so-called life-cleaner.

thechaser结构分析讲解
thechaser结构分析讲解The Chaser Structure Analysis and Explanation"The Chaser" is a short story written by John Collier that explores the theme of love and the consequences that come with seeking excessive desire. The narrative follows the protagonist, Alan Austen, as he searches for a love potion to win the affections of his beloved Diana. This analysis will delve into the structure of the story, unraveling its various components and shedding light on its underlying message. The story begins by introducing Alan Austen, a young man overwhelmed with love for Diana. Seeking advice, he comes across an advertisement for a love potion. Intrigued, Alan contacts the seller, Old Man Bepple, who warns him about the seriousness of the potion's effects. Despite the warnings, Alan's desire for love blinds him, and he proceeds with the purchase. The initial part of the story serves as an exposition, setting the stage for the conflict to come. Through Alan's desperation and willingness to do anything for love, the reader gains insight into his character, setting the tone for the ensuing events. As the story progresses, a rising action unfolds. Alan's excitement fades as he realizes the potion's true nature. Rather than generating genuine love, it instead makes the recipient completely subservient to the person administering it. Alan initially enjoys the power he possesses over Diana, using the potion to control her actions and mold her into his ideal companion. However, he soon becomes disenchanted with the lack of genuine emotion in their relationship. This dissatisfaction marks the turning point in the story. The climax emerges when Alan decides to seek a solution to his predicament. He approaches Old Man Bepple once again, requesting an antidote to the love potion. Bepple offers the antidote, but Alan is taken aback by its price: ten times the cost of the original potion. This creates a dilemma for Alan, emphasizing the consequences of his actions and the complexity of his desires. The resolution of the story unfolds as Alan ponders his options. He considers the high price of the antidote, and the possibility of returning to his previous state of intense yearning for Diana. Ultimately, he decides to purchase the antidote, seeking a return to his previous life in hopes of regaining authentic love. The structure of "The Chaser" follows a conventional narrative arc, steadily building towards a climactic moment and providing resolution to the conflict. Collier's use of vivid language and descriptive imagery enhances the storytelling, painting a picture of Alan's internal struggles and the dangerous consequences of his actions. The story's structure effectively highlights the theme of excessive desire and the potential pitfalls of seeking love through artificial means. The introductory phase introduces the characters and their motivations, while the rising action escalates the tension and exposes the inherent problems with the love potion. The climax intensifies the situation, forcing Alan to confront the consequences of his actions, and the resolution offers a moral lesson about the true nature of love.In conclusion, "The Chaser" is a poignant short story that explores the complexities of love and desire. Its structure effectively guides the reader through the narrative, unveiling the consequences of excessive yearning for love. Collier's use of various elements, such as the rising action and climax, adds depth to the story and allows the reader to reflect on the nature of love and its potential for manipulation.。
