Peter loved to shop used articles.Almost a month ago,he bought a popular word game that used little pieces of wood with different letters on them.As he was purchasing it,the salesgirl said,“Oh,look, the game box hasn't even been opened yet. That might be worth some money.”Peter examined the box and, sure enough,it was completely covered in factory sealed plastic. And he saw a date of 1973 on the back of the box.“You should put that up for auction(拍卖) on the Internet, and see what happens,”the salesgirl said.“Yes,you're right.People like something rare,”Peter agreed.“I can't imagine there being very many unopened boxes of this game still around 40 years later.”“Don't forget to tell me if you sell it,”the salesgirl smiled.“No problem,”Peter said. After he got home,Peter went online to several auction websites looking for his game. But he couldn't find it.Then he typed in the name of the word game and hit search. The search result was 543 websites containing information about the changes of the game.Over the years, the game had been produced using letters in different sizes and game boards in different colors. He also found some lists of game fans looking for various versions of the game.Peter emailed some of them, telling them what he had.Two weeks later,Peter went back to the shop.“Hello.Do you still remember the unopened word game?”The salesgirl looked at him for a second, then recognized him and said,“Oh,hi!”“I've got something for you,”Peter said.“I sold the game and made $1,000.Thank you for your suggestion.”He handed her three $100 bills.“Wow!”the salesgirl cried out.“Thank you.I never expected it.”【写作指导】通读所给文章可知,本文属于记叙文。

Most students experience a lot of stress while preparing for exams,as both their parents and teachers expect them to get high scores.Students who feel anxious are likely to experience problems like difficulty in concentrating while studying, confusion, feeling stressed while looking at difficult questions, feeling blank, sweating, sleepless, etc.Under such circumstances they end up scoring less than they could have. Therefore,it's extremely important for students to learn about how to overcome fear,so that they can take their examination confidently, finally earning good grades. Here are a few tips on ways to overcome exam fear. There are many students who take studies lightly, leaving everything to be studied at the last minute. As a result, when exams are around the corner, they feel scared,as they don't know where to start, and what to study. So the easiest way of overcoming this problem is to start studying much before the exam.Another common mistake that many students make is that they don't make an effort to understand the subject. When they have memorized things without understanding them, the chances of forgetting are more. Therefore,it is vital to understand the concept before memorizing it.In this way, you will never forget any important point.Besides, that the exams are coming does not mean that you have to sit with your books for the entire day,and students should take regular breaks to relax and refresh their mind. However, they should avoid watching too much TV and addicting themselves to the Internet,in which way, they are more likely to waste time.Apart from the tips above, here are some points that will help students cope with examrelated anxiety. For example, before the exam, avoid studying anything new or having conversations with your classmates about what they have studied and how much they have studied, both of which will make you more nervous.During the exam, if you get blank after seeing difficult questions, ignore them for the time being, and deal with those you find easier.Once you have completed them,go back to the difficult ones.【写作指导】本文指出了学生考前压力产生的原因以及克服的办法。

Yesterday Matt was sick.I picked up Archie from the sitter and Eloise from school and decided to run to Target for a few things.I had hoped to be in and out quickly.I found a line with just one person ahead of me and beganorganizing my items on the conveyor. After placing my items,I looked up to see that the person ahead of me was an elderly woman. She was paying for her items with change and wanted to purchase each separately.I was frustrated with this woman and the inconvenience she had placed on me.But then I watched theyoung employee with this woman.I watched him help her count her change, ever so softly taking it from her shaking hands. When she asked if she had enough to buy a reusable bag,he told her she did and went two lines over to get one for her and then repackaged her items.Never once was this employee angry. He was nothing but patient and kind.As I was watching him,I saw that Eloise was too.She was standing next to the woman, watching the employee count the change.I realized I hadn’t been inconvenienced at all. That my daughter was instead witnessing kindness and patience and being taught this valuable lesson by a complete stranger. When the woman wasfinished, the employee began ringing up my items and thanked me for my patience.I then thanked him for teaching us patience and kindness by his treatment of that elderly woman. When he was finished I pushed my cart through the store trying to find the manager.I wanted her to know of the employee’s kindness and patience and how much itmeant to me.After tracking her down and sharing the story with her,we left Target with a cart full of consumable items, but what is more,a heart full of gratitude for such an invaluable lesson. If you are ever in the Glendale Target, give Ishmael a smile and a nod.The world could use more people like him. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ _____________________________【写作指导】要写好记叙文的概要,先要找到以下两个问题的答案:(1)谁做了什么?(2)结果如何?

A recent U.N.report shows that many of us are working longer and harder than ever.In the past, employees worked eight or nine hours a day.Today, however, many companies expect their employees to work longer. In addition, the boundary between work and personal life has become less clear. If we are not working in the office,we might be working at home.We are required to be on call whenever our company needs us.In short,we are all working and having less time with family and friends. This overemphasis(过分强调) on work can lead to serious problems in our personal lives. The more time we spend at work, the less time there is available to maintain relationships with our friends and family. Many of us spend so much time on the job that we hardly ever get to see our partners or children. When we do get home,we are often tired and lack the energy to spend time doing what we really enjoy. There are, however,a number of ways in which we can regain control of our lives and correct the worklife balance.First of all, workers, especially those employed in offices, have to realize that work is rarely finished. In other words, taking work home does not usually decrease the amount of work.As one task finishes, another one appears. This means that, unless there is a strict deadline, work should stay at work.Another way to regain a worklife balance is to plan your free time. Most of us spend a lot of time planning our working week.Few of us put the same effort into organizing our leisure time. However,if we don't have a plan, there is a danger that we will miss out on the things that we really enjoy doing. So,if you like going to the cinema, make sure that you go regularly.Write it in your diary. If you enjoy having friends visit, plan a time and write that in your diary too. It's all too easy to let your precious time slip away.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【参考范文】Currently employees tend to work longer hours and harder than ever before, breaking the worklife balance.(要点1)Actually too much devotion to work has a negative impact on their family and social bonds.(要点2)To solve this problem, employees should strike a balance between work and life by figuring out a clear boundary and scheduling their leisure time with some effort.(要点3)B篇阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity.I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day’s events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn’t accumulating memories a way of preserving the past? When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, wellequipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen ... At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary. Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often — only of objects I find really beautiful. I’m no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.I don’t want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I’ll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don’t live to make memories —I just live, and the memories form themselves.

Feeding the world’s population is a big challenge, and it is about to get bigger. Right now, a little more than 7.3 billion people share the planet. By 2050, some scientists estimate, the world’s population may reach 9 billion. However, the changing climate will probably make feeding this far greater number a very frightening task. That is the conclusion reached by some scientists. Just three crops—wheat, rice and corn—provide more than two-thirds of the calories that people consume. Such crops, and a small number of other important crops, come from farming regions sometimes referred to as “breadbaskets”. However, these areas often occupy a relatively small portion(部分) of the globe. Worse still, the breadbaskets are easily affected by bad weather. Events such as widespread flooding or extended heat wave can kill crops. That’s especially true if the bad weather occurs when a crop is young, fruiting or approaching harvest. Unfortunately, big crop failures in two or more breadbaskets could lead to what researchers call a “food shock”. That means an overall shortage of food would occur. Extreme food shocks used to happen every century. Or to put it another way, that’s only about once in very four generations of humans. However, according to studies, as the climate warms, high and low temperatures become more extreme, and by 2050, food shocks could occur about once every 30 years. In other words, a person born in the middle of the current century might live through two or three extreme food shocks during their lifetime. So what can people do to help avoid food shocks? Making agriculture efficient is one choice. But one of the most effective ways to fight against food shocks might be to cut down on food waste. “If we could cut food waste in half,” said Seth Cook, a British environmental scientist, “we could feed an extra billion people.”

专题限时集训(三)阅读理解训练3主旨大意题(对应学生用书第139页)A(2017·浙江杭州质检二)In 2013,Jeff Bezos, the CEO and founder of Amazon Inc.,made headlines when he announced that within a few years, the company would use unmanned drones (无人机) to deliver packages within 30 minutes after an order was placed.Since Amazon Prime Air was publicized the night before“ Cyber Monday”,some just regarded it as a publicity stunt (噱头) designed to draw attention to the company. It turns out they were wrong. On December 7,2016,Amazon showed that it had completed its first Prime Air delivery in Cambridge,UK.The package, containing a bag of popcorn and an Amazon Fire TV,was loaded on to the unmanned vehicle from a local fulfillment center and delivered to a twostory farmhouse several miles away —all within 13 minutes after the items were bought! The company also announced that the service is now available within the five-square-mile range of the Cambridge area, seven days a week during daylight hours. The thinly populated rural area, with few dozen residents distributed amidst vast areas of farmland and fields,is perfect for testing the drones.Unfortunately, even if the trial is wildly successful, many challenges still remain before drone delivery becomes a reality for most of us.While the drone may do fine in rural areas, they remain untested in crowded urban cities where they would bump into barriers like buildings or trees. There is also fear that the autonomous flying vehicles could injure people as they come down to drop their packages. The drones and their loads are also damaged by destroyers. Then there are the delivery logistics (后勤工作).Amazon will not only have to ensure that every Prime Air customer has a special landing flat surface, but also come up with a practical solution for apartment residents who do not have access to an open space where the drone can land.Hence, while Amazon Prime Air may someday be a reality, for now,we will just have to wait for two“long”days to receive our packages!【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了亚马逊提供的无人机送货服务的现状和挑战。

In many societies, there is often greater acceptance of light skin than dark skin.Light skin may be seen as a mark of beauty, intelligence and success.Thesebeliefs can lead to social pressure even within the same racial or ethnic group,if some members are darker skinned than others. The result is that skin lightening has become a common activity across Africa ,Asia and other areas of the world.More and more people with dark skin are using skin- lightening products, even if they may face health risks. They believe that having whiter skin will improve their lives. Many people think they will have a better chance of getting a job or marrying into a better family.Or they want to look like what their society generally considers beautiful. Some beauty care products and soaps contain chemicals that make skin lighter. This process is also called bleaching(漂白 ).But some of the chemicals are extremely dangerous. One of the chemicals has been linked to kidney( 肾) damage and some kinds of cancer. It also causes low birth weight in babies when mothers use it during pregnancy. At first , bleaching products make the skin color lighter. But after long - term use they can cause problems. They can even make some skin darker. The chemicals in the products block and break down the natural process that gives color to skin. The skin loses its natural barrier to protect against sunlight. Then the skin can become thick and ually the person will use more of the product in an effort to correct the problem, but this only makes it worse.Doctor Ly,who works in a hospital, says the chemicals are now more dangerous because they are stronger. Some cases have resulted in blackened fingernails , infections and permanent skin damage. And these are not the only risks.Experts say some people who change their skin color suffer emotional damage. They feel regret and sadness.Theyfeel that instead of risking their health, they should have learned to love and accept their skin color as it was.【写作指导本文属于说明文,全文使用一般此刻时。

最后,根据行文需要添加过渡词,如therefore,however,what's worse,thus等,使文章过渡自然,条理清晰。

Many people prefer light skin to dark skin, believing that it helps improve their life and caters to the social standard of beauty.(要点1)Therefore,it is common to try skinlightening products.(要点2)However,bleaching containing chemicals has longlasting harmful effects on physical condition and emotions. What's worse,it may fail to achieve expected results.(要点3)Thus,doctors recommend people not to put their health at risk but love and accept their natural colors.(要点4)【导学号:85602027】B阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Every year, especially during the spring and early summer, the lives of many young animals are disrupted.People may attempt to “save” these animals, and more often than not,the mother is nearby.Young rabbits found at a nest site do not need to be rescued. The mother rabbit will not return as long as a person is standing near the nest site.If you've kicked open a nest, just replace the top of the nest, and leave. The mother will return and care for the young.Cottontail rabbits leave their young for hours while eating, but they do return to nurse the young, until the young are old enough to survive on their own.Young rabbits are ready to leave the nest at three to four weeks of age when their eyes are open and their bodies are furry.Young birds are sometimes found on the ground near a nest. When this happens, the best thing to do is to put the bird carefully back into the nest.Don't worry about getting your scent on the bird;it will not affect the mother's care.If you can't reach the nest, leave the bird on the ground.Every bird alive today has spenta few precarious days on the ground while learning to fly.The best thing you can do during this time of year to protect young wildlife is to keep cats indoors. When young raccoons are found out alone,it is likely they are merely exploring and their mother is nearby. They are probably old enough to be fully capable of climbing back up a tree to their den.If they were too young to climb, the mother would carry them back.If you find a young fawn laying alone, leave it there. The mother comes back several times each day to nurse the fawn.If you've already picked the fawn up and brought it home, put it back.Even one or two days after removal from the wild, fawns have been successfully reunited with their mothers,by returning them to the place where they were found.【写作指导】本文属于说明文。
