The sun had set, and the dark shadows of night had begun to envelop the city. I hurried through the narrow streets, eager to reach home. As I turned the corner, I heard a f本人nt and desperate cry for helping from the alleyway. Without a second thought, I ran towards the sound, only to find a small child trapped under a fallen wooden beam. With all my strength, I managed to lift the beam and free the child. As I walked the child home, I realized that sometimes, the smallest actions can make the biggest difference. As I walked the child home, I couldn't shake off the feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment that filled my heart. The child's grateful smile and the heartfelt thanks from his parents made me realize the true impact of my actions. It was then that I understood the profound truth – that in this world, kindness andpassion are the most powerful forces. From that day on, I made a solemn pledge to myself – to always be ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, no matter how small the deed may seem.

Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is no thing fixed about attitudes to dirt.In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block o ut disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up t he skin and let ills in. A particular danger was though to lie in public baths. By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 15 46. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a frie ndly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman h ad taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman sho uld not go out.Though the belief in the merit (好处) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been re garded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning awa y dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of pre venting disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter th an white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too f ar?Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of diseas e. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist (免疫学家), encourages ch ildren to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter (后者) positi on is gaining some ground.(原创范文,仅供参考)One possible version:People have mixed opinions towards dirt on our skin. (要点 1 ) For a long time in histo ry, people of some European countries, such as France, believed that dirt protected peop le from getting ill. (要点 2 ) However, people began to change their attitudes to dirt abou t 200 years ago. People have been told that washing dirt off our body can keep us health y. (要点 3) However, some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may help our im mune system. However, there is nothing fix ed about attitudes to dirt. Different people have different attitudes towards di rt. Different people have different attitudes towards dirt on the skin. 1“People have mixed opinions tow ards dirt on our skin. ”概括非常精炼。

Craig watched his old sister, Riley, and her friend Liz race up and down the lake on their skates, avoiding other hockey(曲棍球) players. Their skate blades looked like silver smoke. When the game was over, the girls skated up to the bench where Craig was sitting. Craig asked Riley what skating felt like.“When I go really fast, I feel like I’m flying,” she said. That’s silly, thought Craig. Flying is something birds do in the air, not something people do on ice skates. Then he watched Riley go back out on the ice. She skated around and around the edge of the lake with her arms pumping and her scarf trailing behind her. Soon she went so fast that her arms looked like wings and her scarf looked like a feathery tail. Maybe skating really was like flying. When Riley sat down to take her skates off, Craig said, “I wish I could fly.”Riley retied her skate laces and crouched next to Craig. “Get on my back,” she said, and Craig did. Riley started skating, but Craig didn’t feel like he was flying. It just felt like a shaking piggyback ride.“You’re too heavy,” Riley said. “I can’t go fast when I’m carrying you.” She skated slowly back to the bench. Craig got off her back. “Even if you could go fast, I wouldn’t be flying.” he said sadly. “I need skates to fly.”Riley didn’t say anything on the walk home, but a few days later she asked Craig if he wanted to go skating.“To watch?” he asked. “No, to skate,” she said cheerfully. “Mom and I found a pair of my old skates. They might fit you.” The skates were a little big, but when Riley stuffed newspaper in the toes, they fit. Craig couldn’t stop smiling. He didn’t want to take them off, but he had to so he could walk to the lake. Riley and Liz went with him. They carried their hockey sticks and a wooden chair. Hardly had they got to the lake when Craig put his skates back on and Riley helped him onto the ice.

Some kids may even take a drink from a pool, despite warnings from their parents.Although swallowing a small amount of pool water is harmless,it's important for parents to realize that taking in too much can lead to chlorine(氯)poisoning. Kids can also inhale (吸八)water into their lungs, which can lead to a serious condition called secondary drowning.Chlorine poisoning can also be serious. Pool water contains chlorine﹣a chemical used to help get rid of bacteria such as E. coli and parasites. Chlorine may not remove all of these germs,so if children swallow pool water they could become sick.If parents and caregivers are aware of these risks, they can take steps to prevent them from happening. By being aware, parents can also recognize warning signs and seek immediate medical attention. They should watch out for signs such as upset stomach and vomiting(呕吐),a continuous cough, trouble breathing. These symptoms could develop within a few hours or up to 72 hours after swimming. As the hours pass, chlorine poisoning and secondary drowning become more distinct conditions with more specific and severe symptoms.Children who have any of these symptoms should be taken to an emergency room immediately. Here are tips for avoiding trouble:Once a child has finished swimming, check for redness and irritation around the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. This could be a sign that chlorine levels were too high.Listen for a constant cough. If a child who has been swimming develops a cough that does not go away,it could be a sign that the child swallowed too much water or inhaled it.Be on alert for flu﹣like symptoms. Here are four methods of creating a successful workout partnership:It can be hard to stick to a fitness program. Everyone has days when all you want to do is lie on the couch and watch your favorite shows. During times when motivation is lacking, having a suitable workout partner is beneficial.A simple text or email the day before a planned workout might be all your partner needs to stay active.Finding a workout partner who shares similar training interests provides a foundation to build a successful workout plan. If four﹣hour bike rides do not interest you, find a partner who would rather attend a 45﹣minute class. If barbell(杠铃)training in the middle of the weight room is too terrifying, grab a partner who would rather try a circuit workout of body weight exercise. Before starting your workout partnership, set goals and expectations as individuals and as a team. Write down how often you will train together, including specific days and times of the week. Make notes of the types of workouts you will complete together. Consider scheduling an entire month of workouts at once. Setting expectations prior to beginning your workout partnership will greatly increase your likelihood of success.Author Dale Carnegie said,"People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing. "Maintain a positive attitude toward your training partnership by carrying out fun workouts and monthly challenges. Play basketball together, even if you have never played before. Work together to see how fast you can climb 100 fights of stairs. Have a monthly push﹣up(俯卧撑)contest to test your progress and challenge each other. In a cloudless sky, contrails are thought to have minimal(最小的)effect on climate. But what happens when the sky is already cloudy? In a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, scientists at ACES and colleagues from the UK show that contrails that are formed within existing high clouds increase the reflectivity of these clouds,i.e. their ability to reflect light. The researchers hope that their discovery offers important insights into the influence of aviationon climate. "Normal contrails are the stripes you sometimes see behind high﹣flying aircraft. Lots of times these contrails disappear fairly quickly. Other times they stick around for a while, and even spread out, sometimes considerably. There has been a lot of work done to find out how these form, and what kind of climatic effect they have, which is estimated to be rather small. Figuring out what kind of effect airplanes have while flying through clouds that are already present in the atmosphere has been much more difficult,"says Kevin Noone,a professor at ACES.The researchers used a combination of flight tracking data and satellites equipped with sensitive lasers for detecting small changes in cloud optical thickness,i.e. the degree to which a cloud prevents light passing through it.When they looked at flight tracks from Honolulu to LA and Seattle to San Francisco, they found a significant increase in the optical thickness of the clouds close to the flight tracks compared to those further away. In other words, the clouds close to flight tracks were more reflective or "brighter"."Such effects only occur in certain latitude(纬度)bands,so aircraft flying on polar routesin the Northern Hemisphere and close to the equator are unlikely to produce these sorts of clouds. The most important areas are in the northern and southern mid﹣latitudes. Work is in progress to calculate the climatic effects of the changes we've observed,"says Kevin Noone.9. Only after I finished ________ and sat back down, did ________ come.Sitting in ________'s study,________ and I looked at our soon﹣to﹣be﹣13﹣year﹣old son and then at each other, exchanging proud glances. For months he had been preparing and memorizing the words he'd use to recite for his ________,the ritual(仪式)that would mark his passage into adulthood. Now,he seemed anxious about something, though. The teacher noticed. "What is on your mind?"he asked.________ leaned in and whispered,"Will there be ________ for my mom?"The teacher smiled. "Yes. You know,it's okay to cry. Your mom won't be the first mother who gets emotional at her child's bar mitzvah."I knew what my son was thinking. I was going to be the most embarrassing mother ever."Emotional"was one thing…but when I cry,it isn't just a tear or two. It's more like the flood. I can't help it. I am a crier. I cry when I'm happy. I cry when I'm sad. I cry at good news and bad news. But that was in private. This would be in front of our family,________ and his classmates. I didn't want my tears to ruin my child's big day. Everyone should be focused on him,not me.The teacher asked us to come in the week before the bar mitzvah for a rehearsal. "Beforewe begin,"he said,"I want you to think about ________ in your lives who will not be atthis celebration with you. Remember how their love is carrying you through ________. " My eyes began to water. But then my son began reading his words. I couldn't hold back anymore,Tears rolled down my cheeks. I gasped and blew my nose as I fled to the bathroom. I couldn't even get through the rehearsal. How would I get through the realthing? But there in the teacher's study I decided I was going to beat this thing.

(2019年6月浙江卷) Parents everywhere praise their kids. Jenn Berman, author of The A to Z Guide to Raising Happy and Confident Kids, says, “We’ve gone to the opposite extreme of a few decades ago when parents tended to b e more strict.” By giving kids a lot of praise, parents think they’re building their children’s confidence, when, in fact, it may be just the opposite. Too much praise can backfire and, when given in a way that’s insincere, make kids afraid to try new thin gs or take a risk for fear of not being able to stay on top where their parents’ praise has put them.Still, don’t go too far in the other direction. Not giving enough praise can be just as damaging as giving too much. Kids will feel like they’re not good enough or that you don’t care and, as a result, may see no point in trying hard for their accomplishments. So what is the right amount of praise? Experts say that the quality of praise is more important than the quantity. If praise is sincere and focused on the effort not the outcome, you can give it as often as your child does something that deserves a verbal reward. “We should especially recognize our children’s efforts to push themselves and work hard to achieve a goal,” says Donahue, author of Parenting Without Fear: Letting Go of Worry and Focusing on What Really Matters. “One thing to remember is that it’s the process not the end product that matters.”Your son may not be the best basketball player on his team. But if he’s out there every day and playing hard, you should praise his effort regardless of whether his team wins or loses. Praising the effort and not the outcome can also mean recognizing your child when she has worked hard to clean the yard, cook dinner, or finish a book report. But whatever it is, praise should be given on a case-by-case basis and be proportionate (相称的) to the amount of effort your child has put into it. One possible version:Pra ising can build up children’s confident, while too much praise may have opposite e ffects on children. (要点1) Besides, less praise also does harm to kids’ development. (要点2) To gain the best result, our praise should be sincere and focus on the process instead of the end product. (要点3) In a word, praise should be in line with facts and ma tch the children’s efforts. (要点4)(2018年11月浙江卷) It’s a really good idea to visit colleges before you apply because their websites can all start to look and sound the same. Nothing will give you the sense of what it will actually be like to live on a college campus (校园) like visiting and seeing for yourself the dorms, classrooms and athletic equipment and, of course, the students. It seems a little crazy once senior year hits to find the time to visit college campuses, and it can also be pricey if the schools you are applying to happen to be more than a car ride away. But keep in mind that you are making a decision about the next four years of your life, and do all the research you can to make sure you are making the right one. There’s no excuse not to visit the schools in your local area. In fact, a lot of college applications even ask if you have visited campus, and obviously, if you live across the country that won’t be as much of a possibility, but if you live nearby, go check it out!If campus visits aren’t going to happen before you apply, at the very least you should findattend. It can save you a lot of heartache if you rule out now the things t hat you don’t like about certain campuses, things that you wouldn’t know unless you actually visit. Now, if time and money are making it impossible, then check out the online college fairs at CollegeWeekLive. It’s a chance to chat online with admissio ns officers, students, and college counselors (顾问), and it won’t cost you a penny! You can register for its online college fair at . While visiting an online college fair can’t take the place of an actual campus visit, it can be a very useful tool that along with all your other research will help you make an informed decision about which colleges or universities you’d like to attend. One possible version:It is a wise choice for you to pay a visit to your desired colleges personally before applying. (要点1) In order to avoid being regretful, you should at least visit the college you decided to attend in advance. (要点2) For students who are short of money and time, it will be helpful to search the online college fairs at CollegeWeekLive where you can get the necessary information. (要点3)(考试说明样题) Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in. A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths. By1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 1546. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman should not go out.Though the belief in the merit (好处) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist (免疫学家), encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter (后者) position is gaining some ground. One possible version1:People have mixed opinions towards dirt on our skin. (要点1) For a long time in history, people of some European countries, such as France, believed that dirt protected people from getting ill. (要点2) However, people began to change their attitudes to dirt about 200 years ago. People have been told that washing dirt off our body can keep us healthy. (要点3) However, some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may help our immune system. Attitudes towards dirt have been changing over time. In the 16th century, people believed that dirt on the skin helped protect against disease. Since the 18th century, however, people have developed the belief that cleaning away dirt can prevent disease. Today, although attitudes to dirt still differ sharply, more and more people choose to believe that playing in the dirt can help build up a strong immune. Attitudes towards dirt have been changing代替原文第一段的第二句话there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt;要点2用protect against disease 代替block out against;要点3中用prevent disease代替is good for health;要点4用today代替nowadays,用sharply 代替hugely,用more and more people choose to believe 代替gaining some ground;(5)全文60词,非常符合词数要求。

She reluctantly gathered her belongings and started making her way back through the tall grass. The chirping of crickets filled the air, accompanied by the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. Suddenly, Sarah heard a loud rustling coming from the bushes nearby. She froze in fear, unsure of what creature might be lurking in the shadows. As she cautiously approached the source of the noise, Sarah's heart raced with anticipation. To her surprise, a small fox emerged from the bushes, its fur shimmering in the golden light of the setting sun. The fox glanced at Sarah with curious eyes before darting back into the safety of the bushes. Sarah couldn'thelp but smile at the unexpected encounter, feeling grateful for the glimpse of nature's beauty.Continuing her journey home, Sarah reflected on the day's events and realized the importance of cherishing the small moments of joy in life. Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a sixstory building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone mit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist. In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car! When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought.” I’ll e in last for sure. “Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could plete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.

1. Directions:Read the following passage.Summarize the main idea and the main point (s)of the passage in no more than 60 words.Use your own words as far as possible.Learning by Rote in the Digital AgeRote learning has become seen as an outdated method of teaching. The dictionary defines learning"by rote"as:"from memory, without thought of the meaning;in a mechanical way".The decline of rote learning has been quickened by technology. No one needs to memorize friends' phone numbers or email addresses because such data is conveniently stored and accessible electronically. And why remember when and where World War Ⅱ broke out when you can find the answer on the internet in about six seconds? But now there are voices for a need to return to rote learning. In fact, memorizing key data is essential to learning any skill.Doctoring requires knowledge of medicine and lawyering requires knowledge of cases and laws.Of course, being able to recall things will not further your understanding of those things, but without memorizing these foundation elements, you cannot progress to a deeper understanding of a subject. While the internet and computers have weakened the need for us to remember things,it may well be that mobile learning can help bring this style of learning back to life by making it more convenient and more fun.Drilling yourself﹣with flashcards or by repetition﹣is usually hard and boring work, which is why most people need their multiplication tables to be drilled into them by teachers or parents.Rote learning without a willing third party can be a battle of discipline and motivation. But mobile learning can make those flashcards and drills more appropriate to individual study;our digital devices can challenge and inform us at the same time and also keep us motivated, whether through game﹣like structures or recording our progress.Once you've acquired the essentials of a subject by rote learning, you will find it easier to go deeper in the application of knowledge which is important.2. Paragraph 1:The car abruptly stopped in front of him.Paragraph 2:A few minutes later, the other Earth's history,a period known as the Carboniferous(石炭纪),plant life seemed unwilling to rot. When trees died they fell to the ground, much of which was swampy(沼泽的)in those days, and instead of being consumed by micro﹣organisms(微生物)they remained more or less complete. In the course, more trees fell on them. And more, and yet more. The buried wood was gradually changed into a kind of matter closer and closer to pure carbon. The result was the coal, providing power for factories and railways, other chemicals, and the energy to produce most of the world's electricity.Yet the great amount of this Carboniferous coal is a puzzle.Forests began in the period before the Carboniferous, and have existed ever since. So why,the curious ask,was it then in particular that so much coal was created?Part of the explanation is that the swamps themselves, lacking oxygen, would have slowed down the activities of wood﹣destroying micro﹣organisms. This is true as far as it goes, but swamps have existed at times other than the Carboniferous. To explain so much coal got in this period it has been suggested that Carboniferous micro﹣organisms were not up to the job of rotting wood.Changes in plant chemistry which let trees grow tall, this theory goes, disturbed these micro﹣organisms' activities, making much wood not rot away.Instead,Dr Boyce thinks abundant Carboniferous coal, swamps and all,is an accident caused by the movement of the continents.During the Carboniferous, the continents were moving around quite a bit.Dr Boyce is suggesting that the actual cause was geological(地质的).When buried, the coal could not be worn away, and thus survived to the present day.If his opinion is correct, then,it is the movement of the continents that is responsible for the Industrial Revolution. No continental movement,no coal.6. I lived a life with the belief that if you don't expect much from the world it won't disappoint you,and for a while I was right. And then I met ________.His essential subjects, like math and science. What we learn in our childhood years stays with us forever. But what if the ability to learn is hindered(阻碍)during such formative years?Though assumed to be a problem starting from adulthood, the actual origin of learning disabilities is as a child.A learning disability is not a sign of less intelligence or brain capacity. It is not a mental condition or disability, like autism(孤独症),mental retardation(智力迟钝),or impairment of vision or hearing. It is not related to emotional or physical disorders in any way.Do not confuse it with ADHD(多动症),or slowness in learning a new language or subject.A learning disorder is the difficulty experienced in learning one or more subjects in a typical fashion. The brain receives and processes information in a manner different from how it should be learned. For example,2+2=4 can be understood as addition by one child. But a child with a learning disability might not understand the"+"sign or the"="sign, and how 4 was created out of 2 and 2.The extent and style of the learning disability vary from child to child.Children with average and above﹣average intelligence can be affected by different learning disabilities.A reading disorder in one child can be present in another child in a completely different manner. The real danger behind such a disability is the way it is treated. If ignored, learning disabilities have a "snowball" effect.Think about it.A child, who can't read first grade material,is going to struggle with middle school reading. And the difficulty will plague(烦扰)him all the way to college and beyond. The frustration of not being equal to therest and always struggling with the same issue, will eat away at him, causing serious emotional scarring and self﹣esteem issues. The causes of learning disabilities can be social and neurological.Learning disabilities can be inherited and are found in both boys and girls.Approximately 4 million schoolchildren and teenagers suffer from a learning disability.8. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事.________ was a ________in the United States Army, but no war zone could have prepared him for taking care of his three﹣year﹣old ________on his express your thoughts and emotions.Just like journalingor keeping a diary, writing a song memorializes an event or conveys the feelings you have about a particular subject.Sometimes the music and lyrics will flow easily and naturally, but you may also struggle to write music. No matter where you're starting from,a few basic principles will help you avoid frustration and help you create an authentic song. There's no right or wrong way to start,so you can begin with lyrics or music. But whichever you choose, you'll need a solid foundation.Be sure you know some basic elements of music theory, such as chords(和弦)and chord progression. You'll also want to get familiar with song structure, which typically uses verse﹣chorus﹣verse﹣chorus﹣bridge﹣chorus(副歌).It's a good idea to listen to great music from any type, and pay attention to the type you want to write.Listening to classics will help you pick up patterns in song structure and inspire you with powerful storytelling.Start with a simple process when you're creating the melody(旋律).Keep the chords easy because you can always go back and add additional elements like drums or strings later.Ifthe lyrics are ready, use them to inspire the music by speaking the song aloud, exaggerating the inflection you use based on the emotion in the song. This may lead to an organic melody from the natural rhythm that the spoken words produce. Finally,a great song starts with authentic inspiration.Whether it's a personal tragedy or joy, drawing upon emotionally powerful events in your life will create better storytelling. If you feel stuck, take a break. This is a better approach than forcing it or overthinking it,if the inspiration isn't flowing.Partner other musicians to generate more ideas and to get an objective perspective.Don't be afraid of constructive criticism because you want the song to be better and that requires honesty during the cooperation process.10.

”概括非常精炼。

2.第二段主要谈到了在16世纪,人们认为dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease,尤以英、法两国的贵族为代表。

Though the belief in the meri t of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since 1 8 century.

2 “For a long time in history, people of some European countries, such as Fra nce, believed that dirt protected people from getting ill.”

3. 第三段用Though引出人们对dirt观点的转变“…since the 18th century. Scien tificall y speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health.” 3“However, people began to change their attitudes t o dirt about 200 years ago. People have been told that washing dirt off our body can kee p us healthy.”4.

4“However, some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may he lp our immune system.”

(三) 关键词汇第一段:fixed (确定的;不变的) 第二段:means (手段,方法), block out (挡住), op en up (打开), upon (……
