Summary of The Egg

I think this story is a tragedy and the author use the egg to stand for his parents’ America Dream which break down finally. Chickens born out of an egg, giving hope to the couple. Then after living for few days, they became sick and died soon. Like the couples American Dream. It coming into being in people’s mind, developing by people’s hard working, but finally broken down. In the story, after “father”failed in his show, he became the other person who has lost his ambition. The story seems like a mirror of American society during 1920s. With the economic developing rapidly, people were only concentrated on seeking for wealth. If they failed, it seemed that they lost everything.
